I bought one I've not tested it yet but I have inflated it, left it overnight, no leaks, it arrived pretty quick, straight from that like posted in the question.

Bestway sleeping mat from amazon. Around £40 with very good verified specs. As you are starting off, I'd suggest this, and as it's not expensive, you can use this to work out what you want from a mat if this doesn't work for you.

I'm pretty convinced this is the exact same pad as the OEX Flux 7R just in a different colour. I don't know if Bestway manufacture in-house but I know OEX/Go Outdoors outsource a lot of their stuff. The same 'quilted' design, same valve and valve placement, same wide rounded mummy shape and same stated specs, they even both have the little printed model code on them you can see on the Go Outdoors website (albeit not the same code). From their respective websites - OEX Flux 7R specs: R-Value: 7.2 Size: 183 x 63.5 x 7.5cm Weight: 768g Bestway Alpinelite Specs: R-Value: 7.3 Size: 183 x 63.5 x 7.5cm Weight: 764g Picked up the Alpinelite in September for £28, around 20-25 nights on it since then with no issues, temps down to -5 (measured) and it's never felt cold. Re longevity I also have the Bestway Wanderlite which I bought from Tesco on a whim last year because it was on clearance, ended up using it for most of the summer as I found it really comfy, probably 40+ nights on that now and it's held up fine, same materials just non-insulated.

Can vouch for this also. Nearly bought it from Argos till I googled it and found it for 22 quid cheaper, durable and warm. Well impressed for the price...

If it’s as warm as my xlite and it’s £36 then I’d be happy.

I bought this just because of your post a few days ago for my first ever winter camp. As it was my first I didn't have any comparisons but I was warm! -6c with -10/12 with wind. The price allowed me to buy well in other areas of my first kit.

Bestway Alpinelite. It's pretty new to the market, but from personal experience and others reviews, it's massively holding it's own against the more expensive mats. I'm actually a bit in love with mine for the price. It's about £40 on Amazon at the moment

I have one, it's brilliant. No noisier than my thermarest xlite and a third of the price. OP, get yourself on bestway!

Afternoon all Some of you might remember the sleeping pad post two weeks ago where I offered up this pad to someone as an option, and it kind of went a bit crazy with debate on its r value etc, so I contacted Bestway once and for all and they confirmed the R7.3 rating and sent me the report. I then purchased the wide version off them direct for £38. I have included the report as screenshots. Apologies this has taken a while but I’ve had a hectic week so as requested, this is my thoughts on the pad after testing it for three nights. The first night I spent on it was simply in my lounge just in case it went pop/deflated with my duvet over me. (18 degrees) The second night was straight on the stone patio in my sleeping bag with a tarp over to keep any rain off. (Stone patio temp at 11pm was 4 degrees using one of those laser temp devices) The third night was spent in a tent on the moors as if using it under normal circumstances as I would any other mat. (Minus 3 air temp using Kestrel meter) My findings…. This pad is warm, very warm, I’ve never slept so warm whilst wild camping. So much so I actually took clothes off in my sleeping bag which on the moors in winter I’ve never had to do before. It takes four full pump sacks, maybe five if not full, to pump up completely to be rigid. Obviously trial and error gets it to the inflation level you’d like. The air valve is a simple bung type arrangement much like their pools I imagine. It does work with a Flextail Mini Pump both for inflating and deflating. The wide pad is really very comfy, more comfortable than my xtherm and as I sleep on my side with my hand under my head/pillow normally it means my arms are still on the pad rather than exposed over the edge. Durability, it’s seems well made and the seam welding between the baffles looks good. There is no bulging of the baffles when one lies on one side of it. Now, the pad is slightly noisy, not like a sharp metallic sound like the original thermarest pads, but more like rustling leaves when you move around. It didn’t bother me as it was a softer noise than other pads and I didn’t really acknowledge the noise after a while. For the price, I would have expected worse quality I suppose but this has surprised me. I’ll use it as my main pad now I think. Obviously I can not speak to its long term use or whether it will degrade over time but I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t at least use this to start out with wild camping rather than forking out for an expensive brand. And yes, why Bestway aren’t marketing this like crazy is beyond me too! Hope this helps someone anyway.

Yeah it’s been really good. I’ve used it for 15+ nights over multiple trips and weather conditions and have found no need to use my (now sold) thermarest since. The only one niggle I’ve found is the bung type inflation hole. It’s still works fine and is secure so no issues there, but it makes it quite difficult to let out a tiny bit of air if you want to adjust it for your comfort level. The thermarest had the wing lock valve where you could let out tiny amounts of air like bleeding a radiator but this bung style means if you’re laying on it and try to remove the bung it’s like an explosive deflation lol.

I bought one too after it was mentioned a few days ago. Bought it as an addition to the thermarest xtherm nxt I already had as my wife has started coming on winter camps. The value seemed incredible so thought worth checking out. I have since returned it though as didn’t feel comfortable trusting just the rubber bung to retain the air, and more importantly, the fabric structure stretched a lot under my 100kg weight - just didn’t inspire confidence and peace of mind is worth a lot to me - wouldn’t want to be lying in sub-zero conditions wondering if my mattress is about to pop. Hopefully my concerns are unfounded, it did feel very warm, and if it proves to be robust and durable, then it is undoubtedly a bargain.

Self-inflating pads are heavy and take up loads of space. The Bestway AlpineLite u/walkthelands suggested looks like a great deal for a beginner trying to stay on budget.

This mat arrived earlier in the week. Very thankful for the tip! It seems alright. I mean for the price I can't complain. It hasn't been tested in harsher conditions (as we haven't had any!) but seems very good.

Direct from Bestway's website (sometimes called Wilton Bradley) and it arrived within days!
