Based on 1 year's data from Feb 15, 2026 How it works
It seems strong enough. The nylon is 20D compared to a Thermarest 30D, but according to GPT Bestways proprietary ToughLite TPU is 2.4x more puncture resistant and 150x more abrasion resistant than standard PVC. A sharp thing will pop either. The welds look a little thicker than a Thermarest and apparently the flat valve on the Bestway is to protect against that known failure point. The proof is in the pudding but for £43 I'm happy to use it, there weren't any alarm bells when I looked it over. Always have a section of tenacious tape in the bag!
7.6 claimed, apparently 7.9 on the actual test document. I went for this because it's all I need really, I've slept like a baby in -7 on the OEX mat so I'll take the weight saving and quick delivery over the Alpinelite. Don't plan to be out any colder than that! -7 was not planned!
I'm currently out sleeping on it right now. Get the wide I keep waking up to my leg sliding off
I bought one of these. Absolutely fantastic. I got it for £31. It's a steal. I use a foam mat under it. It's comfy, it's not noisy, and it's warm. 2 thumbs up
Ridgelite is 198 cm in the XL version, with a R-4,9 ASTM rating
ASTM 7,6 is rated for -30 celcius. Do you really need that in Britain? I get the price difference. Its nothing. But the Ridgelite is more than enough unless you go camping in extreme winter conditions - its 198x63 for the same price as Alpinelite 183x53, and 100g lighter. Anyway. If you need that kind of insulation, it would be downright idiotic not to bring a backup, foam etc underneath. I've had 3 inflatables fail on me. Its not a question *if*, but *when*. And its always during the night and a micro leak impossible to locate. Nothing draws heat from your body, than the ground. So - bring a foam backup. Even at +20 you could risk hypothermia sleeping directly on the ground. Bonus: that IXPE pad makes my R4,9 into a R6,7
I agree. I have the Ridgelite XL (same pad, but an R-value of 4,9) - must say Im blown away! Costs about the same as a trip to McD, is ASTM rated, comfy for a 100+ kg guy and makes absolutely no noise compared to a chips bag (aka therm-a-rest). This and my Flextail Pillow has got to be the most insane, stupid cheap, comfortable items I have bought!
I have this myself and it's fantastic. I've used it a few times and the only thing that worries me in the long run is that the material is 20D. I always have a CCF underneath, so I'm not worried about the underside, but rather wear from the top.
Don't discount the bestway mats just because they're not well known in this space. I have the ridge lite and it's great, but given the time of year you might want to look at the higher r value alpine lite.
