I ordered an Exped Deepsleep duo mat a few days ago on sale for 200 bucks. I hope its somewhat comparable to the Megamat. I couldn't justify spending 400 bucks on a sleeping pad rn but I needed one for our valentines weekend camping trip. I had to return my previous mat (klymaloft double) cuz it wouldn't stay inflated even after patching a leak. :/

i see someone else recommended the exped megamat duo, but i’m here to advocate for the exped deepsleep duo in long+wide. best sleep you’ll get if you’re looking for something on the firmer side, and it’s cheaper than the megamat! my husband and i got one last year and so far it’s been easy to setup and pack. we keep ours in a closet and it takes 5-10 minutes to compress and stuff it in the bag, then a couple of hours to self-inflate, and then we top it off by blowing into it for about ten minutes. an air pump would absolutely speed up the process lol, we just haven’t gotten around to buying one

I can’t find a recent recommendation for a good sleeping pad for my husband and I. We had the REI camp dreamer for 3 years, until it started leaking and we couldn’t find the leak. We then tried the exped deepSleep duo, but there was not as much cushion. I was about to just do the dreamer again but looks like they are not even selling it anymore. We also have 2 big Agnes’s insulated single pads. They are great for lighter camping but next to each other we slide away and off the pad, they also do not have the cushion the dreamer did, it’s all just air. I would really like to spend under $300 but not sure that is an option. Any recommendations? We might also be willing to do a cot, but I don’t want anything to take up more space in the car than the dreamer did and I can’t seem to find many 2 person cots.

I am a fan of Exped… I grabbed a DeepSleep duo during the sale. Enough room for 2, But not too big if your solo.. i have a single that has held up well, but decided to upgrade as my kid can sleep on the other side when we camp. I’m 6’0 , 200lbs

A high R-rated sleeping pad. Cots allow cold air to pass beneath you, that's what you don't want. You want insulation, not cooling! Cots are *great* for summer camping when you can afford the weight. I've got an Exped DeepSleep Duo (R9), though my wife & I don't winter camp it's quite enough for autumn camping in the Adirondack mountains. Their MegaMat Max is R 10.6. It's a lot easier to add more blankets on top of yourself, but adding blankets & stuff below is harder. You need something that traps air in tiny pockets like foam (still air insulates well, moving air transfers heat well). That something needs to not get compressed under your weight, which blankets & sleeping pads do. You'll find the top side of most cold-weather sleeping bags is much thicker than the bottom side, because they expect an insulated pad to do the job of keeping you from losing heat to the ground.

we use a exped deep sleep duo lw+ size, it's very comfortable, maybe a bit on the firm side (obviously you set the firmness with the amount of air); someone mentioned that it sleeps hot and I agree you might also look into the naturehike double self inflating/deflating air bed; its the same size bed as the deepsleep, but packs up a little bit larger than the deepsleep; it really does inflate and deflate by itself, and is also thicker (4.7 vs 3 inches) I have one of these too and I think it sleeps cooler than the exped deep sleep, it might be because of the way the foam is structured inside the mattress, the exped is a "solid" flat foam sheet, whereas the naturehike appears to be 50-50 air vs foam strips (you can see how it folds up when it deflates), which may let it be cooler on your back https://a.co/d/77cY8j7 good luck!

r/CampingGearMegaMat Duo Sleeping Mat - Medium, worth the hype?

we have the deep sleep 7.5 duo and it's really comfortable, the megamat is thicker so it would theoretically be more cushioned for perhaps more comfort is it worth it? I might say no, because there are many competing models out there now that have the similar features and go for cheaper, so that reduces the value in paying so much for an exped branded mat we needed another mat so we bought a Chinese branded one - by naturehike - and I have to say it's just as comfortable, maybe even more so because it doesn't sleep as hot as the exped - and it was a lot cheaper in price https://a.co/d/4ffG149

Exped deep sleep comes in under your price. I have the xl double. Fits perfectly in my tent and is heavenly.

Another vote for Exped though I highly recommend trying both the 3” thick and 4” thick versions in person before deciding which one to buy. I have the DeepSleep Duo and am considering buying the Megmat bc the DeepSleep is VERY firm. I will add that there are a lot of these hybrid foam + air camping mats on the market now. The only reason I went with the Exped is bc of the Exped’s unique dimensions.

I get the best sleep on this—otherwise I usually wake up every hour uncomfortable, but this is great!

Any Exped Med-Wide pads fit the bill. Incredibly comfy to boot. They are more expensive but a good nights sleep it worth it imo. Best investment I made for camping. I got my Deep Sleep for just over $100 on sale.

Indeed. Throw it on a cot and it’s almost better than my bed at home 100%

r/campingSelf Inflating Mat Suggestions?

Exped is one of the most popular (for good reason) and on sale at REI currently. We have a Megamat duo mat that is amazingly comfortable. I also have a deep sleep mat for solo. Def bigger/heavier than basic inflatable but 100% worth it for the comfort. They make several different thicknesses depending on what you'd like but even the thinner mats are extremely comfortable and warm.

r/campingSelf Inflating Mat Suggestions?

Yea I think that's their entry level self inflating mat. Thinner than the others but still warm. I got it to go with my zenbivy and it is great! You do still need to inflate it yourself but I definitely recommend practicing getting the pressure right. You don't want it so high that you're sleeping on a board, but so low that you sag too much into the pad. It does take a bit to get used to the way it feels when you have it just right. I'd probably recommend putting some silicone dabs down on your cot so that it won't slip/slide, or use some kinda of silicon tape for the same reason.

r/campingBest, most "home in my own bed"-like sleep system?

Exped Deepsleep self inflating pad + Zenbivy system. So comfy! If you need a cot to get higher off the ground to make getting in/out easier then any one that matches of size should work. I’m partial to Coleman Trailhead 2 but most are the same, just make sure of weight capacity if you’re a fluffy boi like me.

r/campingSleeping Pad for Winter Camping

The rule I've always heard is 1R for every 10 degrees below 70 as a \*minimum\* for survival, similar to how a sleeping bag rated at 0 means you'll be comfortable-ish around 10-20. Following this you'd be looking at a R5-6 at 15-50 so you're right on the edge of that. Applying the same 'comfort' rule you'd want a 6-8 depending on if you like sleeping cooler (6-7) or warmer (7-8) Exped Dura 8 (or DeepSleep \[R9\] if car camping) would be a strong contender for me in those temps. My philosophy is you can always vent heat if you're too hot in the cold, but if you're cold in the cold, you're cold.

The thing is built like a frikken tank, and I love it. Sure I could go lighter with the Ultra but I just love how strong the Dura line feels. I also have the DeepSleep for car camping and it's in the same vein. Very comfortable both, but I do love the added cushion in the foam mats.

r/campingNeed advice on choosing a sleeping mat for comfort >>weight

Exped is considered one of the best, there are offbrand versions as well. I would probably go for a 3 to 4 inch self inflating foam pad. Still need to inflate it yourself some, but you can adjust it to be both supportive but comfortable. I use an Exped DeepSleep when camping and it does the trick. My SO has the MegaMat and it’s also extremely comfortable. I feel the brand is worth it IMO for ease of warranty vs generic brands, but depending on your cost or warranty options in your country that may change the equation. Shorter pads can be ok if you have a big enough pillow or don’t mind your feet off the end (I don’t terribly) Personally I’d probably spring for the Exped and call it a day. They can be found on sale pretty regularly but that may not accommodate your timeframe. Easier just dealing with the 1 pad vs 2.

r/campingBest Air Mattress for Big people

Exped is good, several models depending on what kind of camping. For reference I’m 6’ 330lbs. MegaMat/DeepSleep used for car camping. Dura used for backpacking. You may also be able to use furniture foam which would be cheaper and can be cut to different sizes.
