I am fortunate enough to have both the mega mat and the new Neoloft I’ll skip to the end and tell you that the megamat wins-that layer of foam right under the surface combine with its thickness is just unbeatable, and it is darn close to a real bed. But I have the Neo loft because it’s really comfortable, it does have a bit more give, and isn’t so supportive in some places as the mega mat. But it rolls up into a very small role that I can throw into my pack, or check on an airplane or whatever. I have back problems and can sleep perfectly well on both pads, but the mega mat is just a bit more comfortable and supportive. But it’s absolutely huge.
r/camping • Exped Megamat or alternative ->I have a mega mat and you can do all of these things if you buy the mega pump as well. It can inflate the mattress in just a couple of minutes, but the best part is it can deflate absolutely all of the air out of the mattress, and it can be easily rolled up into its included storage sack. Without the pump, the megamat is very cumbersome.
r/camping • Exped Megamat or alternative ->As an update to my original post, I did purchase the Exped Megamat and the closest word I can find to describe it is amazing. It’s comparable to a real bed and I haven’t slept this well in the outdoors in 30 years. It’s not exactly compact, but it’s worth every penny. Two nights on it so far and I’m sold.
r/CampingGear • Absolute best sleeping pad available ->I’m picking up the mega mat in about two hours at REI 😁
r/CampingGear • Absolute best sleeping pad available ->Yeah, I just ordered the mega mat 10 LXW. Along with the mega pump. Thanks for all the advice guys. I can’t wait to get it.
r/CampingGear • Absolute best sleeping pad available ->Got our megamats used, through REI, and one from bob leisure. Kids bounce the crap out of them. They are the only way my husband and I with bad backs can camp. But they’re *huge*. That being said…if you only spent $500 on your home mattress? That might be a better place to invest in general.
r/camping • Exped Megamat or alternative ->If weight and space isn’t really an issue then you can also consider the [Exped Megamat](https://www.expedusa.com/products/megamat). $10 more than the Dura, and a higher R value of 8.1 (Dura 8R actually had an r value of 7.8). It’s also a bit more comfortable IMO, and was originally designed for Everest base camp.
r/Mountaineering • Sleeping Pad Recommendations? ->I'm only 5' 3" and for me 25" is the minimum I can sleep on when backpacking. If I am car camping I won't go less than my Exped Megamat XLW which is 30" or my double one for the back of the truck that is 53" wide.
r/Ultralight • Should regular size sleeping pads revamp width? ->If you are car camping only I would get the Exped MegaMat 10 LXW. At als com you can use their Black Friday25 coupon code to knock is down to $195. Then use a cash back site like ActiveJunky not or TopCashback to save some more money. This has an R value of 8 so it will keep you plenty insulated. https://www.als.com/exped-megamat-10-sleeping-pad-10338391 A budget alternative is the ALPS Mountaineering Outback Mat. If you are a REI member you can get another 25% off outlet items and it will take this down to $93. Quite a bargain for a high R value self inflating mat. https://www.rei.com/product/242038/alps-mountaineering-outback-mat-sleeping-pad You will want to get an air pump like the FlexTailGear TinyPump 2X or MP2 Pro to pump up air mats. This only helps out for the pad though. If you don't have a 0F sleeping bag or quilt you will freeze your ass off. For a budget offering Paria Outdoor Products Thermodown 0F will work well and keep you quite warm. Paria is doing 20% automatically at checkout for Black Friday. This is the only time of the year when they offer discounts their already budget priced gear. This is a real down bag with 700fp for $140 is quite a bargain. https://www.pariaoutdoorproducts.com/products/thermodown-0-backpacking-sleeping-bag If you want a synthetic budget offering then Kelty's Cosmic 0F synthetic is a quality synthetic bag and you can get it for $95 right now. Bulkier and heavier than down. https://www.kelty.com/cosmic-synthetic-0
r/CampingGear • Sleeping Pad for 15°F ->My objective was to replace two mattress with a universal mattress that I may use for camping, where weight is not an issue, such as bicycle hiking or lightweight hiking on foot. Big Agnes Campmeister Deluxe Insulated appears to be the best of all worlds on paper. I got the mattress and tried it out, and this is my verdict after trying this mattress for 10 days with the temperature dropping to -5 during two of the nights. Well, I am returning the Campmesiter Deluxe Insulated because it is not a sufficient upgrade to the Mountain Equipment mattress. I still get back pain after a night on it, and the R value is not accurate. I bought the new Exped Megamat LW, which has a great, accurate R value and causes much less back pain, and when inflated at the right level, causes no pain. https://preview.redd.it/gfkcuk4t0eue1.png?width=1236&format=png&auto=webp&s=9f2a5fadc26147bf25731392b39badd35e499ace mattresses
r/CampingandHiking • Campmeister Deluxe Insulated for Nordic hiking, ->Megaamat is nice. Don’t sacrifice comfort over a few dollars, just save up more. I did a cross the country drive years back and never got good rest sleeping in the car on some blankets and lack luster pads. I have the smaller mega mat and like it because I can adjust the air pressure which changes the firmness without it sagging like a normal under-inflated air mattress would act. The local stores by me have them on display so you can lay on them to give them a try. If you’re in La / OC area you can check mine out
r/overlanding • Help with sleeping system. Megamat or crashpads or both. ->I have the Exped Megamat 10 LXW. This one is wider and longer than the base version (wanted wider due to tossing and turning). It is bulky and the first time I packed it up I wondered if I made the right decision. Then I took more time and care packing it up and it wasn’t too bad. I had to do something different as arthritis joint pain was getting worse and being a side sleeper my self inflating foam filled mat wasn’t cutting it any more. It was a game changer. It took a couple nights figuring how filled I wanted it but after that I slept like I was on my home mattress. If there is an REI nearby, they have demo pads so you can check out different brands. Most of the nicer pads are pricey but they will either go on sale or REI sporadically does 20% off coupons.
r/CampingGear • Absolute best sleeping pad available ->My second night i tried opening the inlet valve to try adjusting it and opened the deflate valve - oops! Not a fun thing to happen when you are exhausted.
r/CampingGear • Absolute best sleeping pad available ->Exped megamat 10 for the win. I have the xlw just for me. Best nights sleep I ever gotten have been in it. It’s expensive but I got mine on sale. When I considered the duo, the sale price would have been in your budget.
r/CampingGear • Car camping sleeping pad for 2 ->I won't talk you out of it... My partner and I between us have 5 Expeds. 2x Megamats LXW for car camping, 2x Megamat M for a camping trailer we recently bought and a Megamat Queen that was used during moving and now is there as a guest bed. I'm now considering swapping my LXW for a Megamat Max. I got the Queen for a really good price from Bob Leisure (seems like a sketchy website, but totally legit).
r/CampingGear • Talk me out of buying an Exped MegaMat Duo, queen size. ->I won't talk you out of it... r/CampingGear • Talk me out of buying an Exped MegaMat Duo, queen size. ->Recently went camping with my 5 month pregnant wife and she slept on our new cot + exped megamat setup. She’s a side sleeper and said it was the most comfortable setup she’s ever slept on outside of our bedroom.
r/camping • Sleeping : pads vs cots ->We just have a simple single person coleman cot. The exped is really the key piece. Whatever cot you go with, just make sure its wide enough to support the width of the exped you go with. Both pack up pretty compact for the amount of comfort it provides. Obviously not for backpacking but good for car camping
r/camping • Sleeping : pads vs cots ->We actually have the megamat lxw, which is a single person but extra long/wide. It packs up to about two sleeping bags end to end, but maybe a bit slimmer?
r/camping • Sleeping : pads vs cots ->For camping, we use exped megamats (extra long/wide)--and I find them super comfortable even though I have back issues.
r/overlanding • Most comfortable long term sleeping mattresses/pads? ->They're not quite as light but I'm a huge fan of the Exped 5R, 4.8R Value and the Medium-Wide is about 23 oz.
r/Ultralight • Nemo Tensor All Season being "quiet" is "truth-stretching" ->Exped recommends (as do other self inflating mat companies) that you store it with open valves, unrolled. I have never bothered to do so with any of my mats and haven't had issues. The foam might have lost some rebound over the years, but I can live with that. One Megamat is always in use at home though; great mattresses for guest beds, etc. Or even main beds.
r/camping • Best sleeping pad solution for a family of 4 ->Exped Mega Mats. Pricey, but worth it. REI has a similar one that some speak highly of, but never tried it.
r/camping • Sleeping pads ->I was skeptical of all the Megamat fanboy stuff. But finally got one and like it so much we even use it at home. And I have a wrecked back. It's better than the home mattresses I've purchased over the years. But it's too big for backpacking. They do have backpacking sizes, but I haven't tried them.
r/camping • Exped Megamat or alternative ->I liked the Exped Megamat so much camping I even use one at home sometimes. Everyone's back problems are different, but it helps me, with herniated discs, better than even some of the fancy back-relief specific ones for home use. And what helps me as well is a cot, so I'm higher up. Squatting and bending and slouching in a small tent can be hell if you've got back problems; it's not the padding when actually laying down as much as getting to that, dressing, etc etc. Cots can also be cooler in heat. And just nice.
r/camping • Sleeping pad for people with back problems ->Exped Megamat. I've used a bunch of others (REI brand, Thermarest). Like this one the most; even use it in the home.
r/CampingGear • Best cold weather sleeping pad - REI sale. ->I don't think any of them have real memory foam. It doesn't compact as much, etc. I have used Thermarest and REIs. But the best IMHO is the Exped Mega Mat. Not cheap but well worth it since you want non backpacking size.
r/camping • Self inflating mats? ->I've used Thermarest, REI house brand, and Exped. All have worked great and I'd recommend any of them; they've all been super reliable. For pure lux comfort though, the Exped Mega Mat rules that particular roost.
r/camping • Best brand of sleeping mat ->Exped Mega Mats. I bristled at all the hype about them until I got one. I liked it so much I got one to replace a mattress in the apartment, since it works especially well when my back issues flare up. Cots alone are not that comfortable, and are considerably cold. So most use a mat on top of one much of the time.
r/overlanding • Most comfortable long term sleeping mattresses/pads? ->I have been fiddling around for years trying to find a good sleeping solution at home and camping, ever since back surgery. I finally tried a Megamat in my truck after friends raved about them, and OMG. It's amazing. I have used fairly thick foam inflatables, but this is better. And the rectangularness of it helps; my others fell off too much at the sides. I got such better sleep in my truck I ended up buying one for the bed at home. And two mated can work, with each bedmate being able to set separate pressures. I'd go and lie on one in a store. Or buy where you can return it after a sleep on your kitchen floor maybe.
r/overlanding • Help with sleeping system. Megamat or crashpads or both. ->If you have an rei near buy you could buy it and simply return it no issues if you don’t like it. But I have one and love it as well
r/overlanding • Most comfortable long term sleeping mattresses/pads? ->Exped mega mat. Mine is 10cm of orthopedic hedonism.
r/camping • I am tired of air mattress to sleep on. ->when I’m at home I like a thin wool pad on the ground, I love an extra firm sleeping surface. the exped mega mat is nice. You can inflate it quite hard. Unfortunately it deflates through the night so it doesn’t stay as firm
r/camping • Firmest Camping Mattresses ->We bite the bullet and bought two MegaMats. They have a Duo pad for couples, but we sometimes camp separately.
r/camping • Couples What do you sleep on? ->2x megamats with a coupler is the luxury option. 2 pads are more comfortable than 1 because you can properly adjust the inflation of each to match its occupant and one person moving doesn't upset the other's sleep.
r/camping • Double sleeping pad advice? ->Been sleeping on an Exped Mega Mat and a cot for 3+ months, and an Exped on top of an overly soft mattress for a year before that. I have lower back issues, and this has been one of the best mattresses I have slept on in years.
r/overlanding • Most comfortable long term sleeping mattresses/pads? ->I find the cot/Exped combo more comfortable/supportive than the Exped/mattress, so it seems to help in that regard. Possibly just better firmness match for me. I have used the Exped on the floor or in back of a car a handful of times, but didn’t notice a big difference between that or the cot (as far as I remember).
r/overlanding • Most comfortable long term sleeping mattresses/pads? ->If you want something that’s still somewhat portable and packs down a bit exped mega mats are genuinely great. We went through 3 air mattresses in as many years. Got these and never had a leak in 3 years now and I sleep through the night. If your strictly car camping and don’t mind more bulk I’ve heard the Hest systems are unbelievably comfortable like taking a nice comfy hotel bed camping with you. Good luck!
r/CampingGear • Best sleeping solution for camping? ->Super comfortable. I got an exped mega mat too and this one is way more comfortable. You should get the pillow and the comforter too. They are both fantastic.
r/CampingGear • Got this nifty HEST sleeping foamy pad today! ->Megamat for sure. We have a double quilt that we love, the enlightened equipment accomplice
r/CampingGear • Double sleeping bag and mat setup ->I’ll second the Exped Megamat. Have slept on it in 12F and was warm and toasty. It’s almost as comfy as my bed at home. Not lightweight or super portable, but perfect for car camping.
r/camping • Will an insulated sleeping pad (R-value 9.5) + 850 down top quilt + 650 down blanket keep 2 people warm in 20-30F weather ? ->The answer is exped megamat or the Nemo roamed. Expensive, but as comfortable as it can get.
r/camping • I am tired of air mattress to sleep on. ->Another Exped Megmat fan here. I’ve only tried a few alternatives but there is nothing dissatisfying to look at other options.
r/CampingGear • Absolute best sleeping pad available ->I’ve used the megamat and even the megamat max and can’t seem to dial in the comfort. It’s either rock hard or a waterbed for me.
r/camping • Self inflating vs air pad comfort ->Exped Megamat is my favorite one to sleep on. Don’t be fooled because it isn’t super thick - it’s amazing.
r/CampingGear • Anyone here tried the Kingcamp air mattress? ->Plus one for Exped Megamat. As far as keeping your gf feet warm, get her some Hot Hands foot warmers. I use them throughout the evening and then put them in my sleeping bag when I go to bed. She’ll need a really good beanie. I have a lined wool beanie that’s super warm. A neck gaiter will help keep her neck warm without the bulk of a scarf. What is she using for shoes? Does she have a good insulated boot?
r/CampingandHiking • Winter Camping Sleeping Pad ->Would agree with this assessment 100%. My Exped is more comfortable than my mattress at home. There is a slight learning curve involved. The first night camping I open the valves to let it self inflate for a while. Then I add air using a Flextail Gear rechargeable mini pump (Amazon). Exped also makes a mini pump called a widget. You should definitely invest in one. Once I fully inflate it I let it sit for a while, allowing the air to fully permeate, then adjust the firmness (adding a bit more air or releasing some) right before bed. I have well over 200 nights sleeping on my Expeds and they are still going strong. I’m also in a RTT. If you’re using a ground tent I strongly suggest using a ground cloth of some kind underneath your sleeping mat. One last point: REI and some other gear stores will let you try out different mats in the store. I’m a side sleeper and the Exped Megamat was the only one that kept my hips from digging into the floor/ground.
r/CampingGear • Absolute best sleeping pad available ->Exped Megamat sleeping pad. Expensive, and too heavy for backpacking, but worth every penny for car camping. Nemo Fillo pillow. Best camp pillow ever. I bring it backpacking, camping, even for hotel stays. For a sleeping bag, try a quilt instead of a bag - much better for side and belly sleepers than a mummy bag.
r/CampingandHiking • What is a good sleeping bag and pillow for stomach sleeper camping/hiking? ->I wonder how it compares to the exped mega mat. The specs are nearly the same and that’s a very popular pad (for good reason). Thanks for putting this one on my radar!
r/CampingGear • AMPEX Gear [Bertin 4-Season Pad] ->Exactly. I picked up a used one for $106, and it is comfy, but I don’t think it’s worth double.
r/CampingGear • AMPEX Gear [Bertin 4-Season Pad] ->Out of the ones I would backpack with: Sea-to-Summit Comfort Plus Insulated. It uses two separate chambers, allowing you tune the top one to be softer while the bottom one more protective. It's more than 2x in weight comparing to Thermarest pads, but it is fair bit more comfortable. Out of the car camping options: Exped Megamat. As others have said, it is on par with a high quality home bed, but it is so damn large that I wouldn't use it in the backcountry if it was not transported by a truck or a pack animal.
r/CampingGear • Absolute best sleeping pad available ->I’ve had my megamat 7 years and had no idea I was supposed to store it unrolled. It’s great for two adults but wouldn’t fit the two kids as well (maaaybe one kid?) We do use it at home as a guest mattress so it’s handy to have around.
r/camping • Best sleeping pad solution for a family of 4 ->That's how I feel about my exped megamat. I think it just turned 12.
r/CampingandHiking • Is an expensive sleeping pad worth it? My pool float beat the cheap ones. ->Gotcha. I can tell you from personal experience I don't think you'd be happy with a Megamat. It's a good product, but it's not designed to be deflated and carried around in a pack - even as you've described. It's a foam pad, so deflation is a hassle, complete deflation isn't even possible, and packed volume is substantial. It also won't stay rolled without something restraining it. If you do check one out in person be sure to deflate and roll it and you'll see what I mean. Happy hunting!
r/camping • Exped Megamat or alternative ->Exped megamat is so good that I bought two. Single and double widths.
r/CampingGear • Absolute best sleeping pad available ->My investment in an Exped MegaMat has been 100% worth it
r/CampingandHiking • Is an expensive sleeping pad worth it? My pool float beat the cheap ones. ->Once you go Megamat, you never go back. And you might want to use it at home as well.
r/camping • Foam mattress ->I really didn’t want to spend the money on the Exped Megamat- but I knew I had to at least try it after not being able to find a single bad review about comfort and longevity. Ended up buying it and it’s been worth every cent. Probably a spicy opinion- but the REI Camp Dreamer has identical comfort for a cheaper price, but the reviews of failures scared me away. But once, cry once.
r/carcamping • First Time Car Camping Essentials? Best Mattress? ->Megamat is wonderful but it's not fitting in a backpack, you'll have to take a second trip for it. It takes up a lot of space in the car even. I think you should check out the nemo quasar or (only during an REI sale) the REI helix. Something about the honeycomb pattern is really comfortable.
r/camping • Exped Megamat or alternative ->If the price is anywhere near the exped megamat, just get the megamat If it's way cheaper, I hope it works out, report back after you try it!
r/camping • Anyone have experience with this sleeping pad? ->Exped is amazing. But it's huge. If you're hiking more than 10-20 yards I'd get something else.
r/camping • Exped Megamat or alternative ->I have a MegaMat, I love it, and so does everyone that's ever laid on it. On a cot it's like laying on a regular bed at home. It's a bit of a pain for my RTT (GoFast Camper) because I have to deflate it to close up the tent and it doesn't easily replace the stock bed. Two HEST mattresses can replace the stock bed or they now have a version specifically for the GFC, so I'm highly considering that. I have yet to try one of their beds, but their camping pillow is great and I've heard great things about the brand. Price point is similar so worth checking out if you don't have to worry about size or weight. Plus, no worries about leaks down the line.
r/CampingGear • Talk me out of buying an Exped MegaMat Duo, queen size. ->The Exped Megamat is insanely comfortable and keeps you REALLY well-insulated (R Value of 8.1, most cold weather pads are R-value of 5). Not to mention it will last decades before it needs to be replaced, and it's backed up by a lifetime warranty. All expensive sleeping pads are. Ive had both ThermaRest and Nemo send me free replacements when my pad developed a leak The Nemo Roamer is similar, as is the Thermarest Mondoking. But what makes me love the Exped Megamat is that the top layer feels like it stretches, sp the pad contours to your body like memory foam, just less thick https://www.outdoorgearlab.com/topics/camping-and-hiking/best-camping-mattress#an-exceptionally-comfortable-mat
r/CampingandHiking • Is an expensive sleeping pad worth it? My pool float beat the cheap ones. ->I’m in the minority that considers CCF to be more comfortable than inflatable pads. On the CT I carried an Exped Megamat, cut down to torso length, and 21 inches in width in combination with a folded GG 1/8th inch pad. I just purchased the Yamatomichi UL 15+, cut it down to 175cm, and used the extra as a back pad for my KS40. That’s a total of 7.2oz for the sleeping pad and 1 oz for the back pad.
r/Ultralight • Sleeping pad dilemma ->Side leaning toward stomach is my sleep position and I sleep on the Exped Megamat with no cot and find it to be very comfortable. I’m a Megamat evangelist, and if you’re going to get one, I would suggest trying it alone to decide if you even need the cot at all. It is LUXURIOUS. ETA: you were asking about the packed size. It packs a little shorter but about the same circumference as my 2-person (really 1.5 person) tent (from Marmot but REI 2 person is the same size. Or it’s maybe about the circumference of a standard can of paint x the width of the mat. So like can of paint x 27 inches.
r/camping • Sleeping : pads vs cots ->Exped megamat. Most comfortable pad I’ve ever slept on, by a huge margin!
r/camping • Sleeping mat choice ->IMO the Exped megamat is outstanding.
r/camping • Anyone have experience with this sleeping pad? ->I have 2 winter setups. Lightweight is a nemo Tensor insulated with a thermarest z fold under it. With a 0 degree down bag I've been cozy into the teens. It comes in under 5lbs so it works in the backcountry or if space in the car is at a premium. My no restrictions set up is an exped megamat with a 0 degree bag and a patagonia macro puff quilt. The quilt over the down bag keeps all the condensation out of the down and in the synthetic insulation and gives me a warmed place to put stuff like layers or my water bottle that isn't in my bag with me. The down side is that it weighs over 10lbs and takes up a lot of space.
r/CampingGear • Sleeping Pad for 15°F ->The Exped Megamat is great, but my husband doesn't like to share it with me.
r/camping • Best sleeping pad solution for a family of 4 ->Absolutely love my megamat. I welcome cold camping nights in the Rockies with it.
r/camping • What are you getting with a $200+ sleeping pad ->2 years of full time use and abuse on our exped megamat and it's still going strong.
r/overlanding • Most comfortable long term sleeping mattresses/pads? ->Yes, Unfortunately. However!, It is hands down the best camping matress ive owned. I LOVE it
r/camping • Exped Megamat or alternative ->I got two Megamats, one for me and one for my wife. Worth every penny
r/overlanding • Help with sleeping system. Megamat or crashpads or both. ->seriously. Every night on it is a good nights rest.
r/camping • Sleeping mat choice ->The exped megamat is priceless as far as I’m concerned.
r/CampingandHiking • Is an expensive sleeping pad worth it? My pool float beat the cheap ones. ->Exped megamat has been very firm.
r/camping • Firmest Camping Mattresses ->Yup. It’s one of the few ways I can sleep out camping. They’re big, but worth it.
r/overlanding • Most comfortable long term sleeping mattresses/pads? ->Go to an REI and actually lay on a megamat to see how it feels. It’s cushy for an air mattress, and better than most inflatable backpacking type mattresses, but at the end of the day is still an inflatable mattress, with the problems of air mattresses. I’ve owned variants several times and gone back and forth. It can be comfortable and also lacking for more than a few nights. For cross country trips and long term a trifold or other foam mattress is probably going to be more comfortable. I think the megamat makes more sense as a portable drive up tent camping mattress where there are fewer better options than in a vehicle setup. You could probably get some sort of foam mattress topper to put on top of the crash pads thats would be more comfortable. Everyone is different with what they can tolerate…
r/overlanding • Help with sleeping system. Megamat or crashpads or both. ->Exped megamat!! Inflatable with a foam core, best of both worlds.
r/drumcorps • Best sleeping Padd ->Exped megamat is great, I would be curious to try Hest too at some point
r/rooftoptents • Whats everyone to improve their sleeping pads in their rtt? Using a combo air foam mattress right now, considering full custom foam cut. Any recs? ->If it’s not for backpacking, then Exped Megamat! The comfiest pad there is, but bulky so it’s definitely for car camping only
r/REI • Sleeping pad ->MegaMat is totally worth it. Incredible comfort, warm and sturdy. The self inflating feature works very well and the air pump to top off the mattress is also straightforward. My only regret is not getting the Duo since I only use it for car camping so weight doesn’t matter. I would recommend getting the wider version of the single at least. Pair it with a nice pillow and a fitted sheet and it will revolutionize how you sleep.
r/camping • What are you getting with a $200+ sleeping pad ->If size and weight don’t matter go for an exped megamat. Most comfortable sleeping pad you’re going to find. Instead of a double bag I would recommend a couple camping quilts instead.
r/CampingGear • Double sleeping bag and mat setup ->I camp a lot with 2 large dogs (75 and 90 pounds). We use a Coleman double high air mattress or Coleman cot with air mattress when camping near the car. Been using the same ones for the last 4 years with no issues. Tried an intex air mattress once and was on the ground by morning. For hike in sites and backpacking I use a Nemo quasar and love it. Good r value, lightweight, and comfortable. If camping near the car you may want to look at Exped megamat. Ridiculously comfortable. For a knock off look for Lost Horizon brand on Amazon. It’s a foam and air combo and very popular. When it’s time to replace the air mattress on the cot that is likely what I’m going with.
r/CampingGear • Sleeping Pad question ->If you aren’t needing to carry it long distances go with the exped megamat. Comfiest sleeping pad you can get.
r/REI • Sleeping pad ->If you want comfort exped megamat is the most comfortable I’ve used but not very packable
r/CampingGear • Japanese brand recommendations for sleeping bag, cot, and sleeping pad. ->For car camping, an Exped MegaMat. REI Camp Dreamer and there is one Amazon by LostHorizon. They all are all self inflating and combine memory foam with air. Backpacking, the new Thermarest Neoloft, Big Agnes Rapide of Kilos Aero Cloud pad. You can also try a mattress topper and/or closed cell foam mattress over what you have now.
r/CampingGear • Absolute best sleeping pad available ->Pad all the way. I got a megamat 10 for myself and got a great deal on a couple of big agnes divides for my girls. Soooo much better than an air mattress.
r/camping • Air Matt or Sleeping Pad? ->I don’t know if people have mentioned it yet, but Megamats are included in the REI Labor Day Sale for 25 % off. Starting August 23rd. Also, bought mine end of July and don’t regret it! We are even shlepping it to the Channel Islands in September.
r/CampingGear • Talk me out of buying an Exped MegaMat Duo, queen size. ->Exped megamat. Its not even close.
r/CampingGear • Absolute best sleeping pad available ->I love how through all the discourse regarding optimal gear in this community, we've somehow all agreed that the exped megamat is THAT sleeping pad
r/camping • Need an old fart sleeping pad ->Measure your tent before getting the right size. I have a small tent, and the bigger pads don't fit. Everyone has recommended the Exped MegaMat. (There are 3 thicknesses.) It has a mix of foam and air. I tried it in store and it's definitely better insulated than their dupes. REI just started their sale today, and I'm going to get mine.
r/CampingGear • Sleeping pad/mattress for 2 adults and infant ->The entire air mattress industry is built on inexplicably optimistic consumers thinking “surely this can’t suck as much as the last one I bought!” Another satisfied Exped Megamat customer. It pairs well with their Megasleep 2-person sleeping bag. Cozy.
r/camping • I am tired of air mattress to sleep on. ->+1 for Exped MegaMat. I’ve owned one since 2019 and slept over 100 nights on it.
r/overlanding • Most comfortable long term sleeping mattresses/pads? ->the ONLY pad I've tried that worked is an exped megamat. obviously neither UL or even LW, but it was as close to ground sleeping comfortably as I've ever been. that said, would you ever consider a hammock? I side sleep and pads leave me with my knees, hips, and shoulders going numb and digging into the ground. they aren't for everyone, but they've seriously improved my sleep when camping. i wake so much more rested than a bed or any mattress.
r/Ultralight • UL/L sleeping pad for lower back pressure relief? ->You didn't give a lot of details about your setup, but here's everything that I do to stay warm. - I have a 0°f degree sleeping bag and a larger 35°f sleeping bag designed to work as an overbag. When I combine the two, supposedly the setup is good down to -40°f. Coldest I've camped has been negative single digits f, and I was plenty toasty. - an insulating ground pad is very important, it's insulation is measured in r-value. I use an Exped Megamat, which is very well insulated and even more comfortable. - sometimes I'll bring a Mr. Buddy propane heater with me. I don't run it overnight while I'm sleeping, but its great for warming up the tent for changing clothes. It's also great to help drying the inside of your tent if it gets a little wet. Burning propane does create condensation, but with my tents windows cracked open it's never been an issue. Diesel heaters or electric blankets are other potential options, but I think its best paired with good ground pad and sleeping bag. - filling a nalgene with hot water and throwing it down in your sleeping bag is an old boy scout trick. If I don't have my propane heater, I'll do that to help warm my sleeping bag before I climb in. I'll usually drink a cup of warm tea or hot chocolate before going to bed too. - I normally just sleep in a t-shirt and regular underwear, I find that keeps me warmer and more comfortable in my sleeping bag (versus base layers).
r/overlanding • Had a Brutally Cold Night Camping, How Do You Stay Warm When Your Bag Fails? ->Buy the Exped Megamat - it is the most comfortable camping pad that I have found. I seriously sleep just as well on it as I do on my bed at home. I cannot recommend it enough. If you buy it from REI you can always return it if you don't like it for some reason.
r/overlanding • Help with sleeping system. Megamat or crashpads or both. ->I love the electric pump - you can definitely get away without it but if you have the money/space it's worth it IMO. My megamat 10 takes a few minutes of pumping to get to my desired firmness.
r/overlanding • Help with sleeping system. Megamat or crashpads or both. ->Exped megamat has been game changer for us.
r/rooftoptents • Whats everyone to improve their sleeping pads in their rtt? Using a combo air foam mattress right now, considering full custom foam cut. Any recs? ->Totally agree, wish I would have bought mine sooner!
r/CampingGear • Absolute best sleeping pad available ->Car camping: ExPed Megamat. Backpacking: I didn't like the ones I tried. Went with a sleeping cot (Helinox Lite Cot)
r/camping • Best brand of sleeping mat ->If you're car camping you can't beat the exped megamat and they're having a 25% off sale right now
r/camping • Looking for cheap sleeping options ->I have 2 of the same pad and can confirm they are incredible. So much so, my buddy proceeded to buy 2 as well. The trick is to pump the pads full, then lie down in reach of the valves, and open the fill valve. Slowly deflate a bit at a time by pressing your finger into the inlet to actuate the inlet flap valve. Once you’re comfy, close the cap. Repeat as needed. For me, tweaking the pad like this makes all the difference.
r/CampingGear • Absolute best sleeping pad available ->Exped Megamat is the most comfortable sleeping pad available. Genuinely better than most real beds. However it's extremely bulky, so really only useful if you're camping out of a car.
r/CampingGear • Absolute best sleeping pad available ->Exped Megamat is amazing, watch out for sales because they aren't cheap
r/rooftoptents • Whats everyone to improve their sleeping pads in their rtt? Using a combo air foam mattress right now, considering full custom foam cut. Any recs? ->BA Rapide is supposedly one of the most comfortable inflatable pads out there. Compared to an Exped Megamat it packs down very small and doesn’t weigh much. If you have the space in your car (and at home) and you’re only using the pad for car camping, you’ll be a lot happier with the Megamat.
r/CampingGear • Havent slept outside in 20 years. Buying new gear (30-40 degree car camping: sleeping bag / pad) but not sure what is necessary vs niche. Why shouldnt I buy "this"? ->It’s not cheap, but people rave about the Exped MegaMat. I’m one of them. I sleep side, back, and stomach… whatever feels right that night. Trick is to self inflate, then overinflate a bit, let the material rest/stretch, then both of you lay down, and slowly release air until it’s just right. 10 minutes before hopping into bed, pour hot water in a couple nalgenes and toss them in the sleeping bag. E: Also, if car camping, I recommend grabbing one of those rectangular flannel sleeping bags (mines Coleman, but just check the dimension). Unzip it and lay it out between you and the mattress.
r/camping • Will an insulated sleeping pad (R-value 9.5) + 850 down top quilt + 650 down blanket keep 2 people warm in 20-30F weather ? ->Here's what we've found works best on our Helinox cots: * Nemo Roamer pad: This is our go-to for cot comfort. It's memory foam-like but packs down smaller than traditional options. * Exped MegaMat: If space isn't an issue, this is even plusher than the Roamer. It's like bringing your bed to the campsite.
r/CampingGear • Need a good cushion for my cot! Any recs? ->Exped MegaMat. Only option that’s almost as comfortable as my home mattress. I’ve slept on the Exped MegaMat probably 8-12 months total the past 8 years. They are great.
r/overlanding • Most comfortable long term sleeping mattresses/pads? ->Mega mats are so comfortable I can never go back
r/overlanding • Help with sleeping system. Megamat or crashpads or both. ->I can't up vote this enough, the Exped Megamat is insanely comfortable.
r/camping • Foam mattress ->I can't recommend anything other than the Exped Megamat. It's not particularly compact but trust me, it's worth it. Best nights of camping sleep I've ever had were on that pad in January at 15⁰f.
r/CampingGear • Sleeping mat recommendations ->Exped Megamat, just slept on ice two weeks ago, had the best nights of sleep I've ever had camping before. Warm and comfortable.
r/camping • Can't find a good sleeping pad ->I don't find mine to be heavy at all unless taking it backpacking, but it is large. I flew to another state with mine for that recent trip, it did take up about 25% of my large suitcase but it was oh so worth it.
r/camping • Can't find a good sleeping pad ->I got an Exped Megamat and holy crap is it so much more comfortable than any of the other 6 or so pads I've ever slept on. On top of that, I'm super excited to try it snow camping for the first time next month. I've always used a foam pad under an inflatable pad which is ok, but the added insulation plus the comfort is going to undoubtedly mean better sleep.
r/camping • What are you getting with a $200+ sleeping pad ->I got mine on sale too, it was like $170 and well worth it, but a few months later I think I saw it on sale for about $145.
r/camping • What are you getting with a $200+ sleeping pad ->In that range I can highly recommend the Exped Megamat. I got one earlier this year and wow, it did meet my high expectations. Very comfortable and well insulated for cold temps when needed.
r/CampingGear • Need a better sleeping pad. Any suggestions? ->I absolutely love the Exped Megamat. It's about as comfortable as sleeping in my bed at home, not joking. It's 4" thick, I fill it up until it feels "squishy", well insulated, too, so you won't get cold from below.
r/camping • Need an old fart sleeping pad ->It just kept popping up in my feed and I decided I don't want crap sleep out in the woods anymore, so I rolled the dice and man, I am impressed with the thing. I'm sure there are others out there that work well, but I'm a fan for life.
r/camping • Need an old fart sleeping pad ->Exped Megamat is the only pad I ever care to sleep on ever again. It's big so no problem car camping. It doesn't weigh a ton and would likely take it backpacking if I could afford the space. I've used it in May and January, perfection in every season.
r/camping • Self inflating vs air pad comfort ->I found my sweet spot with it. First few times I used it I had it way too fill and it was hard, now I fill it to when it just feels 'squishy' and it's perfect for me, but I can understand it might not be for everyone.
r/camping • Self inflating vs air pad comfort ->I got a mega mat when I started car camping more and it's probably my favorite purchase.
r/camping • What are you getting with a $200+ sleeping pad ->This. Too many responses here with backpacking pads. If one is *only* camping, Exped is the way to go.
r/REI • Sleeping pad ->Another vote for the Exped Megamat and a cot. I can sleep better on mine than I do in most hotel rooms. Having a cot to get the sleeping platform up off the ground will make long-term use a lot more tolerable. Something about being able to sit on your bed and put your boots on in the morning is so comforting.... If you don't want to spring for the Exped Megamat, check out the copies on Amazon from [CORE](https://www.amazon.com/CORE-Inflating-Mattress-Inflatable-Sleeping/dp/B0CJZSXCGG) and [LostHorizon](https://www.amazon.com/LostHorizon-Inflating-Sleeping-Mattress-Inflatable/dp/B09XLGQ6GR). I have used both and they compare very favorably at a lot lower price tag.
r/overlanding • Most comfortable long term sleeping mattresses/pads? ->For car camping get an exped megamat. Life changing. Comfier than an air mattress, warm, packs down reasonably small for a trunk. Seriously. Do it.
r/CampingGear • Havent slept outside in 20 years. Buying new gear (30-40 degree car camping: sleeping bag / pad) but not sure what is necessary vs niche. Why shouldnt I buy "this"? ->Exped Mega Matt. They come in different widths. I also think it may be more comfortable than my mattress at home.
r/HondaElement • Recommendations for sleeping pads? ->I love my Megamat! Used it at home for a month while waiting for a new mattress to be delivered, and I slept so well on it. I’ve taken it camping, too. :)
r/camping • What are you getting with a $200+ sleeping pad ->I don't know if cots with high R-value, but we typically use a warm pad on top of our cots in the winter and it gets pretty comfy at that point. Exped megamat is both comfy and warm, not on sale but that means you can use your 20% member coupon. If you're not a side sleeper, the REI campwell is also great for the money, it's just a little too thin for me in the winter as my hip gets cold when side sleeping. Hest is great too but packs super bulky so I'm less fond... The REI Kingdom Cot 3 is also super comfy with a warm pad on top, just takes up a big footprint in the tent
r/CampingGear • Best cold weather sleeping pad - REI sale. ->Everyone is saying the exped megamat and rightfully so! Was hesitant at first due to the price tag, finally bought it after a few miserable nights of sleep on a trip over the summer and it was the best money I’ve spent. Buy once Cry once
r/overlanding • Most comfortable long term sleeping mattresses/pads? ->exped megamat but i’m currently trying to find a cot large enough i can put this on top of bc we both hate sleeping with it on the ground. but it is very comfy
r/camping • Couples What do you sleep on? ->Came here to say the same. Wasn’t sure if OP was strictly backpacking or what… I know it’s been a long time since I did any backpacking so I might be out of touch saying this… but I feel that I would have a very hard time not taking my exped, even backpacking.
r/camping • Can't find a good sleeping pad ->Two Exped megamats replaced a King size air mattress, the bonus, we don't bounce each other off the air mattress in the middle of the night, and it's much warmer in winter
r/camping • Need an old fart sleeping pad ->I second this, I bought two, one for me, and one for my wife. They are amazing
r/camping • Need an old fart sleeping pad ->Exped Megamat. I’ve tried at least 10 different ones including the heavy duty 5” sleeping pads from REI/Gander Mountain. This bastard beats all of them and is almost as comfortable as my home bed.
r/CampingGear • Absolute best sleeping pad available ->Car camping? Exped megamat. Trust me lol
r/CampingGear • Winter foam sleeping pad recs ->https://preview.redd.it/2xbctdz3r83f1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c03aca14a434cf1d25315c6a848a921588e099f3 I got it and its the best thing ever!
r/REI • Sleeping pad ->https://preview.redd.it/tn1s9qq8r83f1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4041d9c1c9338ebea120f499216ab82a27d39622 Indeed. Best thing ever
r/REI • Sleeping pad ->Can confirm, exped is great for car camping. Feels like a real mattress. And super easy to inflate with the little hand pump it comes with. Quite bulky tho. It’s recommended to store in its expanded form, which takes up a lot of space.
r/camping • Best brand of sleeping mat ->A cot for height and an Exped MegaMat (or similar) on top for comfort. Queen size cots are generally very bulky and heavy. As long as the style is compatible, two single cots strapped together works just as well.
r/camping • I am tired of air mattress to sleep on. ->I looked into double wide cots a bunch last year, before settling on two single cots, tied together. The biggest issues with double cots is that they're all extremely bulky and heavy when collapsed, and they all have a support bar down the middle, which interferes with snuggling. Quality seems to be an issue as well. It's a niche product, made by very few reputable brands. I figured I could get two cots for a fraction of the price, storage space, and weight, while still having two side bars running down the middle. The middle bars aren't really an issue though, because we put our Exped MegaMat on top of the cot. It works great! That said, if I had it to do over again, I'd consider getting two single sleeping pads as well, and holding them side by side with straps or a sheet. I've heard this is better for motion transfer while sleeping, as well as functionality if either of us ever goes camping without the other (rare but possible in our case).
r/CampingGear • Best sleeping solution for camping? ->Exped mega mat with the mega pump to inflate and deflate well. Slept without being able to feel the floor. No pain except for some issues from how I slept on the bus lol.
r/drumcorps • Best sleeping Padd ->Have you ever spent the night in a crash pad? It's pretty awful... REI will let you lay on pads. If you have one near by, go try the Megamat out. You'll understand.
r/overlanding • Help with sleeping system. Megamat or crashpads or both. ->Own and tried several other sleeping pads, megamat is the best (unless you backpacking)
r/REI • Sleeping pad ->XPed mega mat makes a solid mattress for cold car camping.
r/CampingGear • Sleeping Pad for 15°F ->Yes. Air mattresseds suck. The megamat is 10000% worth it's price.
r/CampingandHiking • Is an expensive sleeping pad worth it? My pool float beat the cheap ones. ->The Nemo Roamer, if it’s not sold out, is the best car camping pad. I’ve had that and the megamat and the Nemo is much better than the megamat in every way. Plus it’s a smaller company with a zero questions asked warranty. On a different Nemo pad that I tore on a sharp rock I was out in the middle of nowhere Wyoming they said I had 2 options. They’ll send me a new pad free of charge to any address or they located the closest Nemo dealer and to purchase the same pad (they had already made sure it was in stock too) and send them the receipt and I would be reimbursed.
r/CampingGear • Havent slept outside in 20 years. Buying new gear (30-40 degree car camping: sleeping bag / pad) but not sure what is necessary vs niche. Why shouldnt I buy "this"? ->Expend Megamat is the best. I put it over the EO mattress and it’s like home. Stay away from the iKamper one.
r/overlanding • Most comfortable long term sleeping mattresses/pads? ->The MegaMat is just a self-inflating mattress. It’s filled with foam, so when you release the compression straps and open the “in” valve, the foam expands which draws in air. Most camping self-inflating mattress are cored out, they have channels or holes cut through the foam to reduce bulk and so they pack down smaller. If you puncture one, it’s not a disaster like an air bed. Your body weight pushes air out but the foam is constantly trying to draw air back in. Any decent camping shop will sell self- inflating mattresses. I have a Zempire one.
r/CampingGear • Best sleeping solution for camping? ->Another vote for Megamat. Wife and I share the biggest one they make and we're both more than happy with it.
r/CampingGear • Absolute best sleeping pad available ->We bought the Exped air mattress that really fits well in the back and made our own mosquito net window covers. Love it!
r/rav4prime • Anyone ever buy either this "Sleeping Platform + the Cargo Drawer" kit or this folding mattress for car camping / storage? ->I also love my megamat! It's more comfortable than my bed.
r/camping • What are you getting with a $200+ sleeping pad ->I have limited experience since we only started camping last year but I cannot recommend enough the Exped Megamat camping mattress. We used the Exped Megamat Auto mattress since we were sleeping in the car and it’s got the tapered sides for the wheel arches but the normal Megamat would be ideal for your situation. Great for side and back sleeping. It can be super firm or you can let out some air and adjust it to your preference. Definitely worth considering if funds allow 👍 Will be taking our dog on a car camping road trip this year so will soon find out how dog proof they are! We’ve got a couple videos showing the mattress set up and in use. Edit - don’t listen to me, others have provided much better solutions 🫡
r/wildcampingintheuk • Sleeping mat advice ->Just splurged on a megamat for car/tent camping and had the best sleep in a long time while camping.
r/CampingGear • Best sleeping solution for camping? ->Might still be worthwhile for grip but realistically, putting an 1/8" pad underneath you air mattress will not protect it from anything that would otherwise cause a puncture. Anything sharp enough to actually puncture an air mattress (sharp rock points, stick ends/etc) will poke right through that 1/8" foam without any trouble. This has happened to me once in \~50 Sierra nights from a small sharp rock end stick out that was embedded into the ground (impossible to see beforehand), it went right through both my tyvek groundsheet and DCF tent floor. I think the only true ground protection would be a thicker CCF like z-lite or megamat (which is what I use now), and I also prefer this since they double as camp sit pad/yoga mat/nap mat/etc.
r/Ultralight • Nemo Tensor Elite after 5 Nights (Warmth, Comfort, and Durability) ->
