I own both. The Ultra is a thicker version of the Exped Ultra 5. Exped has a new series of Ultra pads like the Ultra 6, 8 and 10. This now has reflective insulation and standard insulation, is lighter than the older mats and warmer.

Wiggy sleeping bag. High r value pad like a thick exped. Ignik heated pad cover if you have power. Sleep in clothes so you don’t get cold taking them off then cold again putting them back on in the AM. Get super organized so you’re not wasting time dicking about. Things that you don’t mind doing in summer warmth can get really annoying really quickly in the cold.

Exped Ultra is comfortable and ultralight. Pretty affordable, too. Give it a try

Most 20D pads seems to be "too fragile". Only exception seems to be the exped ultra somehow. But it's really hard to have a good picture on pads reliability.

I really like my Exped Ultra. Im a side sleeper and the vertical baffles are good for me - never had any problems with it.

Yeah thats thin. Go to rei and try some I find the exped ultra and dura series most comfortable for light backpacking pads. If you are going less far or it’s important you can take something even more comfortable meant for car camping. And if it deflates it’s either from temperature drop or a leak. submerge it underwater to find leaks.

I had an Exped Ultra for many years, which was pretty comfortable, but wasn't a big fan of the vertical baffles. When it finally failed, Exped replaced it with a duo Ultra. Good customer service. Since then I've had the Thermarest nxt and a ZenBivy which I didn't find comfortable. I bought the Nemo Tensor Extreme last week from Backcountry for 20% off. I haven't really had it out, but I highly recommend it. Six foot, 200# side sleeper. I don't have to keep it rock hard.

Exped Ultra works for me and I sleep very well. I’m also a side sleeper and move a lot, but a wider bag, my exped pad and Nemo Fillo pillow have been amazing. I noticed I need some space in the sleeping bag and support for my head.
