For ultimate comfort and insulation while car camping : Exped Megamats. We have been using ours for about 7 years know and they are still as comfy as ever. For hiking/bushcrafting I have tried a lot of pads. Nemo, Sea to Summit, Thermarest and the one that stuck with me are the Exped pads. I am a side sleeper so those vertical baffles work much better for me. I recently switched to the Exped Ultra 6.5R mummy in LW for lighter backpacking (450g and a R Value of 6.9) and the Exped Ultra 10R LW (800g and R Value of 10.2) for winter camping. The other pads have their place but they don't work that well for me for comfort.
I own both. The Ultra is a thicker version of the Exped Ultra 5. Exped has a new series of Ultra pads like the Ultra 6, 8 and 10. This now has reflective insulation and standard insulation, is lighter than the older mats and warmer.
I use an xped 9cm thick. Absolutely a winner.
I was using a backpacking style exped inflatable pad and recently replaced it with a self inflating one. Takes up a lot more space but far more comfortable (and quiet!).
I have the XR insulated and I love it. Best sleep ive ever had in the woods
Exped Dura is solid as a rock and makes some very warm options at 5R and 8R. It is a bit heavier but also a much thicker denier of fabric. The Ultra series is a lighter version with thinner, more standard denier of material.
Exped is good, several models depending on what kind of camping. For reference I’m 6’ 330lbs. MegaMat/DeepSleep used for car camping. Dura used for backpacking. You may also be able to use furniture foam which would be cheaper and can be cut to different sizes.
