I’d go for an inflatable pad and for speed I’d get a little flextail pump to speed up the time and effort required to set it up. I’ve recently bought a Naturehike 5.8 which I’m very pleased with and a flextail gear zero r5.6 which feels comfortable although I’ve not slept on it overnight yet. The main thing about the flextail like the exped is it looks a bit like the sort of lilo you see kids using in a holiday swimming pool.
Have a look at Flextail I have their R05 version in the big size as I’m quite tall. I really rate it. R5.6 and about £100 or less with discount codes. They’ve also got a model called R09 with an R value of 9.4 which is pretty high! And on offer today £154
Flextail RO5 in either the Mummy Plus size or wide pad. I'm 5'8 and just about get away with the regular, so you'd probably want the larger pad. They're on offer at the minute I believe on flextails site.
Flextail r05, insanely comfy and under £100. Lots of youtubers have a code for 15% off too. I own the mummy pad and its great.
You could give a naturehike a go or a flextail, these seem to be good value. I use the flex tail r5 , its pretty good but as with most thing outdoors everyone has different ideas what works or don't. Every one s budget is different and what we see as good value some see as cheap or too expensive
I like my Flextail R5. My only gripe is that it can be a challenge to get it back into its bag. But other than that its a great pad for the money
Both of the guys that I talked to at REI were big fans of the Tensor and were anti Therm-a-Rest. I went with that and ordered a Flextail zero online. I’ve got it packed on my bike, and I’m going for a two day ride tomorrow to try it out. Thanks everybody, I appreciate this community!
I just purchased a FlextailGear Ultralight - I was watching YouTube’s from a gal named Miranda and a guy named Eric - they compared all kinds of gear at all kinds of price points and this one was mentioned and it seemed like a good choice for me.
I grew up with those Coleman pads, graduated to a thermarest when I got out of college, got a static V in 2020 to save space. Recently upgraded to an insulated pad with pump from Flextail. I could still use any pad today depending on the situation but the Coleman pad is sort of obsolete these days. The static V is fine for warm weather and the compact pack size and minimal weight are awesome. My new insulated pad is like 3 times the size and weight but is way more comfortable in cooler temps and in my hammock. So static V is for hot weather only and the insulated flextail what I use for the milder days. Before I had the Insulated Flextail, for colder weather I'd bring a folding pad to add insulation under the StaticV.
I know it's not an option here but flextail gear is super cheap from AliExpress £70-£80 on there and one of the best mats for that cost imo
Exped Dura 8 is going to be the more durable / warmest pad combination out there for an air pad. If you want something cheaper that is warm you can look at the FlexTailGear pads. They have an ASTM pad over an R value of 6.
