Got the LOSTHORIZON Air & Foam Camping Mattress, Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad, 4.5" Thick, with Air Pump, Queen last year and used it all spring/summer is awesome. Had a chance to get an exped single for daughter at re-supply for the same price as the LostHorizon and actually put it back because i was happy how the queen did.
I would shy away from buying couples gear unless y’all are up each other’s butts all the time. Single sleeping bag. Single mattresses, or an air/foam combo mattress that doesn’t transfer motion. My lady and I use a queen sized mattress from Lost Horizon that’s fantastic. Get a minimum of a 4 person tent. Barely large enough to fit a queen sized mattress. I would recommend a 6 person.
I am still on the search for a better sleeping arrangement for my wife and I while camping. We just did 3 nights with the family (SO, 2 kids) in a tent at a state park campground. Overall it was great and we want to go more often and thus need to make the sleeping better. We've been using a queen size Lost Horizon foam & air mattress. It is ALMOST great.. but just not quite there. I'm wondering if a Hest mattress would be more like a true memory foam bed? I am not concerned with the size, weight, or even cost really.. I just want to have the closest experience to a memory foam mattress (we have a Casper at home). It seems like everyone on reddit loves Exped Mega Mat, but I doubt it is that big of an improvement over Lost Horizon.
Yeah that was for sure the case when we slept on it the first time... Too much air makes it too hard. I guess the problem is still by the middle of the night my hips/back hurt. I mostly side sleep, so I guess the mattress is still not soft enough.
I can't say much about durability yet, but my Lost Horizon queen mattress was extremely comfortable on my 2 week camping trip. I shared it with my 120lb Great Pyrenees mix, and it survived a few scratches from the dog without any issues.
I have Lost Horizon self inflating queen mattress, and it's pretty great. Basically another Exped knockoff.
Lost Horizon comes very close to Exped as far as comfort, and it's right around the $150 range.
Lost Horizon is what you want.
Exped is the current king of the semi self inflating mattresses but there are other worthy considerations which are more affordable, especially on sale. I went with a Lost Horizon I found on clearance for half price. Probably not as bomb proof as the Exped, but after about a dozen trips this summer it’s going strong without issues. The bottom line is these type of mattresses are exponentially more comfortable than anything else on the market. I will never go back. The only drawback is they don’t roll up small.
