I used to have the MLD pad and I bought the big ass one so that I could fold it up 4x into a thick torso length pad. That was the only way I could have used that pad by itself.

Have you tried sleeping on a 4mm pad? I'm a ccf true believer and I tried using the MLD Eva pad for one night and it just did not work for me at all. This question is a little silly though—try it out, e.g. on the floor of your house or in your backyard. Some can tolerate it and some can't. Even better, bring both (you won't notice the extra 3 oz on a bike) and get rid of one or the other as needed.
