I have the Nemo self inflating and it does great but I also feel like some brands still need A LOT of additional air even after. Some more than others. I bought one of these last summer cause we go through a lot and I was tired of spending a ton. I honestly love it lol built in pillow and pump. MOXILS Sleeping Pad, Ultralight... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BR3N8J5Q?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I got one for my little mutt after one too many nights of her shivering or trying to snuggle me off my sleeping pad. She loves it now, and having her own Nemo z pad underneath made a huge difference too. It packs down way smaller than I expected and it’s way less fuss at camp, no more tug-of-war for my quilt!
I’d check out Klymit or Nemo sleeping pads, they’re more affordable than Thermarest and still super comfortable and packable. We’ve had ours for a few years now with no leaks or issues.
Our golden uses a Nemo z pad and the ultralight (down) Whyld River sleeping bag. It’sa game changer in terms of keeping her warm and comfortable without needing to be in our double sleeping quilt. https://whyld-river.com/products/whyld-rivers-ul-sleeping-bag-liner
I have a NEMO for backpacking, I don't love it but was better than what I had. Would love a better alternative, what's the big selling point for Exped?
Comfortable, I have one now. Before I had a Nemo pad I returned and honestly, kind of wish I had kept it. Only downside was it took forever to inflate. Also, these things go on sale/get returned all the time. I’d look for one second hand if possible.
Decathlon gives you the best ratio of quality for the price. Now if you camp in extreme conditions like cold winter, you'll want a specialized pad which is more insulated. Look at the big names: nemo, big agnes... Beware they are very expensive and narrow, so not confortable. They are ligjht and for backpacking in extreme conditions. If you want more confort you look at something heavier and more bulky, not for backpacking. For car camping any cheap brand does it If you want lighter, the cost raises exponentially. And confort, durability decreases. To make up for lighter material. That will be all these big name expensive brands Decathlon that you have is a fair compromise: relatively cheap, relatively confortable, relatively light. Now it depends on which criteria you want to improve. But tbh it's hard to find a better compromise than decathlon if you have access to their products where you live. Unless you can spend 3x the money for similar quality
