I've had really pleasant experience with the Stoic Double Cloud Camp Bed. It's really comfortable and it doesn't feel like you are sleeping on a blow up mattress as it has some memory foam. Only thing is that you'd need to get a good air pump to get it nice and firm. I use the the Flextail Max Pump 3.
I couldn't tell you personally. Never used the Lost Horizons, Featherstone, ALPS Outback Mat, Sea to Summit or Big Agnes Captain Comfort mats. Can't afford to buy all of them and test them =) I have used the Exped MegaMat 10 and 15, Nemo Roamer 3D, Thermarest Mondoking 3D and Stoic Cloud Lux mats and they are pretty close in comfort to the Exped. The Lost Horizon looks suspiciously close to the Stoic Cloud series. The Stoic Lux (which is the same thickness of the MegaMat 10) was fairly comfortable. No complaints.
Naturehike Mongar 2p. If you really can get a Marmot Limelight for under $150 definitely get that over the Naturehike (DAC aluminum poles and a lifetime warranty are primary reasons). For a bag I would look for a deal on a Marmot Tressles Elite Eco. I have seen the older models on clearance for under $100. These pack down much smaller and weigh far less than traditional synthetic bags. If you can afford a down bag go for. Paria Outdoor Products Thermodown 30 or 15f. Otherwise if you are with used try to find a quality down sleeping bag. Cots under $75 go with a Naturehike, iClimb or Kingcamp cot with aluminum poles and legs. Aluminum cots pack down way smaller and weigh significantly less than steel. For the sleeping pad I would recommend a knockoff of the Exped MegaMat. Semi inflating mats are way higher R value than the junk Intex and Coleman air mattresses and way more comfortable. A budget alternative to the MegaMat would be th Stoic Cloud or Cloud Lux or the Hikenture semi inflating mat. These are 3-5" thick and feel like sleeping on a bed at home. Combine them with a cot and it's pure luxury.
High R-value sleeping pads help. We’ve tried 2 mats so far that are self inflating. We’re currently using the Lost Horizon 4.5in pad with a R-value of 13. However, I think my favorite was our first, the Stoic double cloud camp bed that’s 3.9in thick with in R-value of 11.5. It gets really firm and stayed pretty firm throughout the night. (Still get a portable inflator, it’s so worth it). We also use flannel sheets and tuck our pad in our double sleeping bag so it’s a nice snug fit. And good camping pillows are worth it… like Klymit. This setup isn’t great for backpacking obviously, but we love it for car camping and when we’re at the campsite for a week. Also, 3 beers in with some s’mores by a fire always makes us sleep so hard lol. Happy camping!!!
I just got the Stoic Cloud double camp bed from Steep&Cheap for 90 bucks. Self inflating. It's not quite an air mattress but it's not quite a sleeping pad. Hands down the best not-bed I've slept on. Pretty thick skin, with a blanket over it I wouldn't be worried about dog claws at all. As long as they've been trimmed in the last few months. Edit, that sale is over, but Backcountry has one for $73. Big Agnes also makes good sleeping stuff for "cheap". At least cheaper than REI
I have the Stoic cloud, their version of the exped mat, and it's great for a fraction of the price. I'm a side sleeper and it's very comfortable. I got it when it was on sale on Backcountry.
I've been using mine for 2 years with no issues. My starter and BIL have had their double for 4 years now. Its not a thick as the exped but I got my single for less than $80 so it was a good deal.
Me and my girl almost bought this as well. We thought, buy it for our trip to test it and if we don’t like it then return it and buy it when it’s on sale. Ended up not doing that and buying the stoic version and it’s the exact same thing. Just different brand. And it was half the cost at back country store in LA
