Glad you had success with it! I was super hyped about it from all the accounts of its comfort. Right now my “light” ground sleeping loadout is a klymit insulated paired with Nemo switchback (most comfortable combo I’ve found outside of self inflating) with tarp and bivvy. If I’m going less than 8 miles for an overnight and either the weather is extreme winter or I have a camping partner I haul my stupidly heavy mondo king pad and split the weight of the 3 man tent between us. Been leaning towards just going fully back to my hammmock but I think I’ve determined that I need an open cell/self inflating style pad to prevent hip pain on the ground.

Never had any issues with my Therm-A-Rest BaseCamp XL and I’ve been using mine for 14 years now. I just gave my old Therm-A-Rest to my stepson and purchased a new Therm-a-Rest MondoKing 3D Self-Inflating Camping Sleeping Pad. Wanting something with a good pad to help me sleep better.

Game changer for us was setting up two Thermarest Mondoking XLs side by side in our tent. Sharing an inflatable mattress is not as fun as you think. Every time someone moves in the slightest the whole mattress moves. On top of that we do have a Kelty double wide sleeping bag.

The Exped Megamat is insanely comfortable and keeps you REALLY well-insulated (R Value of 8.1, most cold weather pads are R-value of 5). Not to mention it will last decades before it needs to be replaced, and it's backed up by a lifetime warranty. All expensive sleeping pads are. Ive had both ThermaRest and Nemo send me free replacements when my pad developed a leak The Nemo Roamer is similar, as is the Thermarest Mondoking. But what makes me love the Exped Megamat is that the top layer feels like it stretches, sp the pad contours to your body like memory foam, just less thick https://www.outdoorgearlab.com/topics/camping-and-hiking/best-camping-mattress#an-exceptionally-comfortable-mat

When I’m solo at a state park it’s nice to raise the sleeping pad up. I use a coleman packaway with a thermarest mondoking 3D for a great night sleep. When the SO and baby comes along we use a queen aerobed. Edit: am side sleeper

We use separate air mattresses so we can adjust how we want. Thermarest Mondoking. Expeds are nice too. I think both make double mattresses too if you want to go that route.

I used this last year to buy my Thermarest MondoKing and My Exped MegaMat Queen. Thanks for the concerted and continued effort.

Thermarest Mondoking and the Exped Megamat (Queen). I'm the same age as you and slept 18 nights last yr on the Thermarest. Great sleeps. I picked up the Megamat this winter so I've only tried it for a few nights on the living room floor, but again, a great sleep.

REI has the MegaMat 10 on display at all their stores. The 15 model however is only sold online and at some high end specialty retailers (like Bill and Paul's Sporthaus in Michigan or Backcountry Gear's HQ in Oregon). If you are on a budget you could check out the Stoic Cloud or Cloud Lux pads from Backcountry.com. These are less than $200 online (normal price). Backcountry also runs 20% off coupon promotions several times a year to save a little bit. Since these are self-inflating foam pads they will also be bulky. The Stoic pads are also 30" wide. https://www.backcountry.com/stoic-single-cloud-camp-bed https://www.backcountry.com/stoic-double-cloud-camp-bed-lux The Lux (15 CM high version) is not available in a single wide 30" version at the moment. If you don't want a bulky pad than the Big Agnes one is pretty much your only air pad option other than junky Klymit pads. Klymit lies about R values. https://youtu.be/yI1CFOXMX3I?si=dcfER7sarRza32n1 I would avoid no name cheapo pads on Amazon. They lie about R values and are cold to sleep on. You want to look at pads that are ASTM tested. July 4th sales will be in 2-3 weeks. More than likely Exped will do another sale channel wide. This past Memorial Day sale it was 25% off at most places and 30% off at Sports Basement; Sports Basement also participates in cashback websites like Activejunky.com to save another 5-10%. Other options I forgot: Nemo Roamer 3D is available in 30" wide. Less bulky than the Exped's but also less foam so slightly less comfortable. The ALPS Outback Mat is 27" wide and is on clearance at REI for $140. Thermarest MondoKing 3D. Also really comfortable. Even more expensive than the Exped MegaMat though. Sea to Summit Comfort Deluxe. Very similar to the MegaMat. Costs more. Less foam than the MegaMat like the Nemo so it has a smaller pack size than the MegaMat.

Maybe try the mondoking XXL? It's a few inches longer (80 inches) so I think it's just a tad longer than the kingcamp you are looking at. It's also 30 inches wide so more room than the average. Im solo, and I'm not tall, but i like being able to roll around so I bought the XXL. It's super comfy. More comfortable than my bed at home. I highly recommend. It also has a great R value so you won't get that freezing effect you can get from some of those thick but hallow air mattresses (not saying the kingcamp is hallow... not familiar with it... but I use to freeze on my old thick hallow air matress).

Oof. I thought i had replied but I must have forgot to hit the post button :/ was writing to say you may want to check out the mondoking XXL if height is a factor. It's 80 inches long so a few inches longer than the kingcamp you are checking out. Also the r value is really good on it. I sleep better on my mondoking XXL than I do on my bed at home. As the other poster said, you'd need 2, but as a woman, I was getting sick of sleeping poorly when camping and this air matress has made a huge difference for me. Your wife might also enjoy. (Plus, some stores have one inflated that you can try out before purchase).

Get any of the foam filled inflatable mattresses. Thermorest Mondo King, Exped, REI Dreamer, and I am sure there are others. They are big and heavy, ie. Car camping not backpacking, but are fantastic! I do a bunch of scout camping as well and pulled the trigger on the REI model when it was on sale, and bought a second one as soon as I tried it out. I tried the Thermorest and it was about the same, I liked the feeling of the top of it, and the warranty was a lot better, but think the REI version was on sale for a little over $100, so I went with that. Don’t think you can go wrong with any of the models, but not the REI version only comes in one size, jumbo, so keep an eye on the size of the tent. Here is a review of several popular models: https://www.outdoorgearlab.com/topics/camping-and-hiking/best-camping-mattress

A hot water bottle in the bottom of the sleeping bag is a great way to keep your feet warm. I boil water, pour it into a Nalgene bottle, check for leaks and put the bottle inside a sock or buff. I put the contraption inside a dry bag for extra leak protection. My thermarest 7.x R value bad has kept me warm at -11f. A foam pad on top worked fine at -25f. Exped luxmat looks good for car camping. Two singles can be zipped together. https://youtu.be/VE084awWxd0 I don’t know if it’s available yet.
