Car camping comfort champ, but some side sleepers find it thin.

Neoloft user here, and bigger guy, 5’10” and 280 pounds. The regular wide is the first pad I’ve slept on that I was truly comfortable on. My arms still hang off the sides as with any pad, but the comfort was excellent. I use mine mainly for backpacking. I an older Neoair Dream that I use for car camping on a cot. I got mine at REI with a 20% off coupon and a their great return policy were big factors when getting the Neoloft.
My partner and I used to have the same problem where every time one of us moved, it felt like the other was on a trampoline 😂. Switching to a foam pad (we went with a double Thermarest, but I've tested an Exped before and it was great) made such a huge difference for our sleep.
I have used my ultralite pad long term as well as a crazy nice thermal rest dreamer pad. The ultralite got torn easily and was loud. The dreamer was better than some spring mattresses I've used.
That's right! 😄 So the R-6 isn't the problem.
You are right its totally overkill! Yesterday i did a test night at -15 degrees outside. Just airmattress R-6, sleepingbag and the sleepingbagliner around all of it. Didn't even use thermo underwear and it was cosy! So i can reduce the weight of my backpack a lot!
Bigger than we need tent, two extra large thermarest deluxe pads with a 3” tempurpedic (queen size) topper. Regular sheets and pillows. I have figured out that if my wife is super comfortable, we go camping more often!! It takes up a lot of space, but feels totally worth it.
The thick ass Thermarest, Exped, or REI self-inflating ones are definitely more comfortable and durable than any air mattress I’ve ever used.
