When the Eufy security issue came to light, I banked hard and settled on an Arlo wired unit. It works. It's not quite 100% what I wanted, but it works. (I expected to have knee surgery and kinda required the doorbell as my bedroom is upstairs, but #$&@ keeps happening and I'm still waiting on therapy and surgery from the VA. I honestly can't remember when my last therapy session for depression/PTSD was.) If I didn't rent, I'd open the walls and run my own Ethernet cabling for a different unit that can't be blocked with a WiFi jammer.
I have recently gone away from the Arlo wired for the exact reasons you stated. Further, I switched to Wyze based on getting a v4 as a test. The new Wyze wired cam is worlds better than the Arlo was for me! That being said, I wish I had gotten the dual cam Wyze doorbell. I did NOT realize it could also be hardwired. When they put “battery” in the name…
Been happy with mine. Even bought a refurb from Amazon. It is in the shade most of the day and have a beefier transformer as well. Replaced an Arlo wired.
I have the Arlo Essential Doorbell and it works with apple Home kit . It doesnt support home secure video but allows you to stream from apple devices such as your Apple TV. I am also on the look out for a battery operated front door bell that can be work with apple home kit but is also platform agnostic as well . I could try Aqara G410 , however , I would like to hear feedback on the unit. The reason for shifting the Arlo is because I am moving away from the subscription model which Arlo charges monthly/yearly.
Just FYI, I've not found anything completely european made in a similar price range, but have now ordered an Arlo camera. The company originally stems from the US, however, they sold their European branch to Verisure in Ireland (surely for tax purposes, but hey). The video data is saved on EU servers, doesn't need a subscription. Happy to report once its here.
It works. Better than the ring in my opinion.
I moved from Arlo to ring because I had a ring alarm and wanted it all in one system. Ring has really been great for me. And nice it’s all in one subscription. I enjoyed Arlo but they kept raising prices and losing features. To answer your question, it’s probably the easiest solution that will usually just work without issues. Eufy is a contender but I think there’s still privacy concerns there with them.
