I have 2 Nest Doorbell (battery) cameras. One for side door and the other for front door. I also have 1 Nest indoor camera with power and 1 Nest outdoor camera (battery) for the back yard. All work well with Google Home. The Home app displays all 4 very fast and alerts when there is movement. They are not the newest 2k models but really these 1k models work just fine. FYI.
Google next video doorbell no issues at all! i have the battery version
Personally, I think this is a low effort review. I have a 2nd gen battery which can be hardwired and is. Custom zones for notifications. It identifies the categories of person, animal, or package well. Reports when the package disappears from view. I don't ask it to identify specific people, because I can see who it is. Cam quality is good. Night vision is good. Two way voice. You get 3 hrs of events free but in reality this is longer if you haven't reviewed the event yet. You only need the subscription if you want to store 30-60 days of events or the full past 24 hours. I don't. Why? Because you can download the event to local storage for free if there's an issue. The only issue I've had is if my buddy shines his headlights directly into the cam blinding it, I can't get a picture of him peeing in my bushes.
It's quite rare to see a wired Nest doorbell here, so far I only saw two. I have a battery one, and they are quite frustrating. The battery is miserable in a setting of a tiny front yard with many people or vehicles passing by. Not to mention now I have one year to get rid of it in favour of something that doesn't require an AI subscription as they recently announced the end of the Google One gravy train.
I've got a bunch of reolink cameras, almost all running on POE to a ubiquiti setup then to a larger ups. I have their wifi doorbell battery camera too because I have one door (commercial glass) and nowhere to run wires (leased space). It's been great tbh. Specially compared to the nest battery door bell I had before. Battery lasts much longer and i can actually answer the device before ppl leave unlike the nest.
I live in Minnesota. My Google nest doorbell, on battery, is fine all winter. I have to charge it more frequently, but it still works well below freezing
Yes. I don't have power from the house to the doorbell sadly. Irrespective, it works in the depths of a MN winter.
I had similar problems in contacted support. They sent me a new device under warranty and I haven't had any problems with this one. Battery lasts 4 to 5 months without any event notifications and my door points at a walkway that is pretty active.
Well, me and my Google Nest Battery Doorbell will just go fuck ourselves then.
I've got a Google battery doorbell (rented flat with no power) and it is okay, but the footage recently has started cutting off after a couple of seconds. I'm now waiting for UniFi's 5G Dream machine (as I have to use 5G as my main Internet connection), and the second I have that I'm getting Unifi cams as well and completely ditching Google outside of the speakers (until I get good enough at HomeAssistant to get up my own speakers and assistant).
I know PoE is their thing but their WiFi doorbell and G6 Instant camera run off WiFi and work great for me. Pair with a Dream Router 7 and you got a decent setup that requires no subscription. Price increases and stupid playback issues made me switch. It’s a shame because I really liked Nest.
I have the Nest doorbell. - Does not have an iOS Home Screen widget - Standard notification doesn’t show video unless you click into it - uses a digital chime communicated to a Nest Hub (sold separately) or the Google Home iPhone app The rest of your criteria I have used or have seen while configuring mine. I’ve had it for about 4 years in 3 different homes. The battery power approach isn’t my preferred method since it’s another device to remember to charge, but it was much more convenient to move with me not being hardwired in.
