Ring - Battery Video Doorbell Plus

I agree, unless hardwiring the normal non-removable battery variant is a pain in the arse... You'll either lose interest and have a dead ring doorbell, probably put a cheapo wireless doorbell next to it instead, or you'll keep charging it having no doorbell for the day and ultimately get annoyed by it and buy the next model up with removable batteries + a spare battery to swap on the fly - essentially buying twice, Ring knows it and I'm sure that's why they keep selling it. Unless things have changed, The Plus variant has better FOV (hence the higher resolution) - I could see the edge of my door handle it was that wide a view, very nice.

The Plus has a removable battery to allow recharging without taking the whole doorbell off the wall. This allows you to get an extra battery, so that your doorbell isn't down for the 5-8 hours it takes to recharge. I'll never recommend the regular battery doorbell because of this, unless you are wiring it so that you don't have to take the doorbell down to recharge it. It also has slightly better video resolution.

If you don't want to be without a doorbell for 5-8 hours while the battery recharges, get the Plus model and an extra battery.

It is a noticeable improvement especially with the camera. I went from a 2nd gen to the battery doorbell plus and it’s much more of a broader picture of my front door than with the 2nd gen version

The battery Plus has those new features, but the wired Plus still does not.

I have a battery powered Ring and a hardwired Logitech Doorbell. I can get a notification, open the app and speak to the person on Ring before I ever get the initial notification from Logitech/Homekit. I keep Logitech just for the additional camera angle. But I could new depend on a timely notification.

Have a ring doorbell, battery powered one, only have to recharge it about 3 times a year, I think it's great, connects seamlessly with alexa devices, so when someone rings the bell a doorbell ring comes from all my alexa devices and if you have one with a screen like the alexa show 5 or 8 then it also shows who's at the door through it

Mine is stuck onto bricks using command Velcro strips on the standard mount. It’s fallen off once in 2 years and I put a new strip on it. Held really well previously on wooden boards. Sure it’d be easy to steal, but good for renting.

I only realized this after I tried to find the bird's eye view feature on mine. By no means does the plus suck. It's very good and I recommend it but I'm a tech geek I like having all the extra features so 50 bucks would be worth it for me.

Why downvotes? This would seem like a good solution. I currently have a ring doorbell using Wi-Fi. I use the motion detection to trigger outdoor lights and it actually works quite nicely, very little delay. However I don't know that I'm going to buy another ring so a reolink with Wi-Fi would be a very interesting choice.

How is your Nest doorbell camera in the cold weather? I'm stuck between getting the Nest/Google wireless doorbell and or the Ring.  We've had more cold days this winter and I mean brutal cold. My concern is one not working for a week or longer because it's so frigid outside. I did have a Ring doorbell before and the clarity as well as audio was amazing! I'm just really stuck between the Nest and another Ring wireless doorbell camera. Hoping you can maybe convince me on one or the other. Thanks  Nest doorbell camera is slimmer and therfore less noticeable to potential thief's from afar. Ring doorbell is chunkier, more noticeable but offers great video & audio quality.

My house came with a Ring. I just don't pay the subscription fee. So I get remote live view and motion notifications, I just don't get saved video recordings to go back and review.

I had ring and eufy. I bought another eufy last year. I had so much trouble with it. It wouldn't pick up motion for hours. Day and night. I eventually got my money back. I'm trying to pick a different doorbell

I could not get ring to connect to my router - it was 2 meters away. returned in - I have a nest one right now but its not wired and I hate having to charge it every week

My standard Ring doorbell cam has only shutdown once due to cold this winter. I don't have to charge it for months, either.

Pretty sure Ring will do your basic requests without subscription. I think a subscription is only required to have videos saved so you can see who came to your door.

You’ll mostly get people hating on Ring products here. But honestly, they’re the best all around in terms of consistent, high quality, well-rounded hardware and software. $10/month isn’t that much if you want something that just works and you don’t have to keep fiddling with. I personally have dozens of cameras from multiple companies, including Ring. And I have to fiddle with the Ring ones the least. I consider it to be my main security camera, the other ones are just for redundancy or specific-use cases that a Ring cam may not work well for. No camera company is perfect, but Ring is definitely head and shoulders above the rest. And oh, don’t just look and compare at spec #s. For example, the video quality on my 1080p Ring cams are much better than my 4k/2k ones from other companies. Resolution isn’t the only thing that matters for video after all. Encoding, bitrate, etc. also matter.

I use my Ring camera without a subscription. I got it connected to Home Assistant and Scrypted. Works perfectly, and with an upgraded doorbell transformer, I can record 24/7

A Ring door camera without the subscription is useless. The only thing they let you do is get a motion alert (for everything - if you want smart notifications then you need to subscribe) which gets annoying. No viewing of past recording at all. Becomes a realtime on demand camera. Pretty useless as a doorbell camera in my opinion.

TP-Link's Kasa or Tapo devices are what you want. Get a large enough memory card and you'll have 24/7 recording for a month. Great quality video as well. I previously had Ring, Nest, and Wyze doorbell cameras, my Tapo doorbell camera is superior to those.

Not quite true. My mother wanted a bell because she had trouble hearing the fixed bell and also wanted to be able to see who was there before answering. The Ring does that without a subscription even when you are away. The only thing you need the subscription for is to store the data. It will also use the existing 12v bell supply if you have one so that you don’t have to recharge. If you use wireless then I think the battery lasts about 3 months but it depends on how often it is used.

I've been using Ring for several years. I don't really recommend them because of the cloud dependence (which leads to some performance issues) but I still use them because of inertia. However, I do very much like the fact that Ring integrates a camera and alarm system into a single app/platform. I find this very convenient. You will get a lot of recommendations for Reolink but given what I say above the thing that puts me off them is the lack of alarm system integration. If I was purchasing new today I'd probably look at Eufy or Tapo. I believe they process locally, have video doorbells in your price rance, and have product lines which goes beyond just cameras.

After about 8 years of the Ring, I replaced it with the Eufy. The thing that got me to switch was Ring's ever-increasing subscription fees, until I decided that $50/year for a doorbell wasn't worth it. Not only is the video quality better on the Eufy, but having local storage and no fees to access it was what sold me on it. I have a bunch of their cameras as well and have been happy with them.

Got 2 of the solar cameras earlier this year. Absolutely fantastic AI tracking and camera quality and battery life. Now looking at replacing my Ring camera with eufy no subscription doorbell

It was only until I got the solar cameras that I realised how the ring footage looked like it was from 1999.

Switched from Ring to Aqara G4 as well! It’s good and the video quality is so much better than my old ring camera. Just fyi if you power it with only batteries they will go through them quickly. You can mess around with different settings to increase battery life but my Ring camera was battery powered too and lasted much longer. Otherwise, I love it.

Can you recommend which batteries and charger? The ring had a rechargeable battery and it was so convenient!

Yeah I'm on Ring as doorbell plus a chime and 2 pet cams. I never heard of Eufy til this thread, I'm definitely going to look into it. Presume the Ring live view still works without subscription? Could still use the indoor ones as pet cams.
