Tapo Video Doorbell. Recordings can be stored on a micro sd card so no subscription required.
r/AskIreland • Can somebody recommend a video doorbell? ->I have wireless Tapo. No subscription. Records to a micro sd card. https://preview.redd.it/xniqxwfxatoe1.jpeg?width=1576&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f709ba37673e2c3dfd5640affe6eb3c2490bcab0
r/AskIreland • Any advice on doorbell cameras? ->I have Tapo non wired. Rechargeable battery. No subscription required. I use a micro SD card.
r/AskIreland • Which doorbell camera? ->That is what I’ve got. It’s ace and I wasn’t a fan of video doorbells before for same reasons as op
r/AskUK • Is a doorbell camera worth it? ->Just got the Tapo D235. Pretty good and value for money. Otherwise I think the Tapo D230S1 is good as well
r/askSingapore • What are some camera doorbell you recommend? ->Tapo is TP-Link, a very reputable brand. The data is all saved on a microSD card in a little hub in the house. If you like you can also have it stored on the cloud for a reasonable price but they are not pushy with this service, if you select to only have it stored locally they don't try to sell the subscription anymore. I have one and have the app on multiple devices, I can view either live or triggers when someone has walked past or come to the door. They have a whole ecosystem of other security devices and cameras which can all be accessed from the same app. I'm planning to get one to look out the back as I caught a bunch of teenagers climbing over my back wall
r/AskUK • Does anyone have any recommendations for good doorbell cameras without subscription? ->Their naming scheme doesn't make any sense to me but after trying to compare their different models I went for the TapoD230S1 Video Doorbell Camera Kit. It comes with a little square hub that plugs into your router/WiFi box which holds the microSD card which you must buy separately, up to 512GB. I just have a 128GB one in mine. You download the Tapo app on your phone/tablet and it guides you through setup of camera and hub. Once set up you can have the app on many devices, just log in with the password you'll have made. Then you can see all the stored video saved on the microSD card or see live and even interact with a delivery person wherever in the world you are as long as you have an internet connection without the data having to be on some cloud server. I can have my phone give me notifications when someone comes to the door, like it's useful while at work to check that the dog walker didn't forget to come walk the dog and that he did bring him home or to chat to a delivery driver to tell them where to buy the parcel if not in. It can also see my car so if anyone inteferes with it while I'm on holiday I can see that - that's actually the reason I got it in the first place because I came home after being away a couple of weeks and my car have been opened up, rifled through, the interior light left on and the battery dead. But I want comfortable with using Amazon or Eufy after the stories of their employees spying on people through their cameras or Eufy's complete lack of security - the thing that got them ditched by Linus Tech Tips.
r/AskUK • Does anyone have any recommendations for good doorbell cameras without subscription? ->TP-Link Tapo D230S1 Smart Video Doorbell Camera Kit, good and cheap enough for the majority of households.
r/askSingapore • What are some camera doorbell you recommend? ->Im using tapo D230
r/askSingapore • What are some camera doorbell you recommend? ->Cheap with above avg quality and no subscription? People on here will recommend Reolink, seems to be the subs favorite. However I've been using Tapo products for a bit now and love them. They have everything you want, doorbell, cameras (would recommend the wired one but also have bettery ones). Price to value is realllllly good. Subscription optional, but they all have the ability to store video to the SD card. "Ai" features just mean they can recognize a person/dog/car etc. Would recommend.
r/smarthome • Need best video doorbell but also want to spend the least amount of money ->I’m sure it’s true with the Eufy as well, but with the Tapo the hub can store the footage with the doorbell unit is outside. Exactly like you like
r/smarthome • Best video doorbell without subscription, and with local storage being inside the house ->I got the one model up (Tapo D225/D230) which can be installed with the existing wires for continuous recording and use the internal battery only as power backup. I paid \~$70. No subscription needed, local (microSD) storage, and fast response.
r/smarthome • Best local non subscription doorbell camera? Under $100? ->tapo series. very good connectivity.
r/askSingapore • What are some camera doorbell you recommend? ->Get a TP Link Tapo video doorbell and thank me later.
r/telus • Why can't I use my house's doorbell without paying a subscription?? ->Tapu are great. Really good picture quality and you get a fews month of trial. After the feee trial i think its 39 euro for a year to keep the cloud service or you get 7 days recorded for free.
r/CasualIreland • Recommendations for doorbell cameras or other cameras for house? ->I have a Tapo wifi battery doorbell and it's not great. With person detection on the battery barely lasts so I've got it set to only wake then the button is pressed now which kind of defeats the point. It also doesn't expose a stream to home assistant
r/homeassistant • Wireless/wifi smart camera's/doorbells, are they really that horrible? ->Tapo is good if you don't want to pay Eufy prices, but they suffer from the shortcoming of storing footage on an SD card in the doorbell unless you subscribe. However, the doorbell has an anti-theft mode with a fairly loud alarm, and the subscription is £28 per year for a single doorbell/camera which isn't bad at all.
r/AskUK • Can you name some good doorbell cameras without subscription fees? ->Been absolutely loving my tp link and the price was too good to pass up
r/smarthome • What video doorbell is the best? ->Tapo, presumably. Better news here. https://www.reddit.com/r/CasualIreland/s/y8WuzmJJNC
r/CasualIreland • Recommendations for doorbell cameras or other cameras for house? ->And better news here https://www.reddit.com/r/CasualIreland/s/y8WuzmJJNC
r/CasualIreland • Recommendations for doorbell cameras or other cameras for house? ->That's great news. I didn't realise that you could keep limited access to the cloud service without paying. This is important to maintain access to images of someone who decides to break the camera, with the memory card, off the mounting. Tapo ofc.
r/CasualIreland • Recommendations for doorbell cameras or other cameras for house? ->The doorbell is great, but a bit big
r/CasualIreland • Aldi video doorbell, 22 quid?! ->I have some Tapo stuff, which was cheap and it's grand. The app can alert me and record etc. It doesn't need a subscription.
r/AskIreland • Any advice on doorbell cameras? ->Yes, Tapo ones are as good as Ring and around the same price to buy but are subscription free.
r/AskUK • Does anyone have any recommendations for good doorbell cameras without subscription? ->I have a Tapo, cloud is optional videos can be stored on an SD card in the indoor part of the system which I do
r/AskUK • Can you name some good doorbell cameras without subscription fees? ->I have a tapo doorbell, it stores everything on an SD card inside the box plugged into my router instead of paying for a subscription and as far as I know does everything else a ring does.
r/AskUK • Should I get a ring doorbell? ->I made the switch from Google Nest to Tapo after my doorbell broke after a year of frustrating ownership. Everything works great. No monthly fee and uses local storage. Highly recommend. I found it equivalent or better than Nest for all features.
r/gadgets • Google Nest Cam Outdoor (2025) Review: Gemini Just Lied Too Much ->I’ve been on Tapo for probably 6 months now. I have had no issues so far. Same functionality as Nest, but my Nest would run out of battery every 2 weeks, take half the day to charge, and had a shitty mount and would wobble, AND it was double the price with a $10 a month subscription.
r/gadgets • Google Nest Cam Outdoor (2025) Review: Gemini Just Lied Too Much ->Tapo doorbell works better than ring by a big margin
r/smarthome • Alternative to ring doorbell? ->I have TAPO - very happy.
r/AskUK • Can you name some good doorbell cameras without subscription fees? ->I went with Tapo, and although I've nothing to compare them with, I am very happy with them. The App notifies me of whatever I want it to (movement, crossed-line, entry to specific area, person detected, or camera tampering). You can get a subscription if you want cloud storage, or you can install a micro SD card. You can speak through the camera speaker and it gives you live audio recordings too. I was an easy install and took me about 30 mins for each one, this included drilling the holes, mounting and connecting to the internet/ app set up.
r/AskIreland • Any advice on doorbell cameras? ->I've quite liked the Tapo doorbell camera. The wired version needs less power than the Nest and Ring cams too, so I didn't have to replace the transformer. It's a bit bulky but a decent deal at ~$140. Edit, no subscription, 24hr streaming option, and local storage on SD.
r/Edmonton • Home security camera/doorbell alternative to Google Nest ->It seems pretty good for latency. I just have the doorbell cam.
r/Edmonton • Home security camera/doorbell alternative to Google Nest ->I've just switched from ring to tapo and I'm really liking the new doorbell. Something to consider!
r/EufyCam • Switching from Ring doorbell. Is Eufy a good choice ->I've had Ring, Eufy and Tapo. Tapo is the best. It's wireless, but the battery lasts long and has great picture quality. Just get an sd card for storage.
r/AskIreland • Can somebody recommend a video doorbell? ->I've only had it 2 weeks. The memory card records over old recordings automatically when it's full. You'll need an sd card with eufy too. Well, I did with my last eufy doorbell.
r/AskIreland • Can somebody recommend a video doorbell? ->Make sure to check with the Tapo. If it needs a hub, then you can't live view the footage. You can store recordings locally on sd card. Edit: Sorry, I presumed this was r/homeassistant. Tapo is fine using the Tapo app.
r/AskUK • Does anyone have any recommendations for good doorbell cameras without subscription? ->For a while on Android, the Tapo doorbell wouldn't do a video call to your phone unless you had the app open. As in, the app had to actually be on screen. If it was running in the background you'd only get an easily missed notification that someone had rang the doorbell. After a few few months there was an update to the app to "address Android video calling issues" and all they did was explicitly state on the permissions screen that it wouldn't work unless the app was in the foreground. Then another few months after that it actually got fixed. So I guess I give them points for actually fixing things with software updates, but it they're still 7the sort of company that uses paying customers as beta testers. As well as the doorbell I have the central hub yoke, two external wireless cameras, and a little pan and tilt camera in the kitchen that I mostly use to keep an eye on the dogs if we're out. Other than that doorbell issue I haven't had a problem with any of the kit.
r/CasualIreland • Aldi video doorbell, 22 quid?! ->I’ve been loving Tapo/Kasa (TP-Link).
r/homeautomation • Amazon’s Ring now works with video surveillance company Flock ->Invested heavily into Ring when we moved in originally, 2 indoor cams for the dogs, doorbell and outdoor spotlight cam. The indoor cam eats a battery in 36 hours when there's no motion, two ring doorbells completely died, and I've had to buy at least 5 replacement batteries for them due to them no longer charging. Moved to Tapo recently for the doorbells and wouldn't go back, cheaper, better camera quality and records to an SD card inside the house, so you don't have to pay monthly.
r/AskUK • Is a doorbell camera worth it? ->I have my house wired up with Tapo products - one of the many TP Link sub-brands. Doorbell, internal and outdoor cameras. On board memory for all so going back on the doorbell camera I have about 4 months of motion activated footage. Helps I also have lighting and smart plugs set up all within the same app. I also have some Wyze cameras, they're US imports so less often seen but decent quality.
r/policeuk • Video Doorbells / CCTV ->Tapo, their cameras and doorbells are awesome
r/googlehome • Best doorbell that isn't Nest ->Get a Tapo and use your own card.
r/AskUK • Is a doorbell camera worth it? ->+1 for Tapo. My doorbells are quick and they have good video quality 5mp 2k day and night. Do NOT buy blink. I ended up recycling mine as I couldn’t even sell them for $10 on marketplace. They were slow even with the blink module. They were even slower after the chip unsoldered itself from the inside of the module and I couldn’t even sell only see video when the bell was pressed. The delay with the sync module was about 7 seconds and over a dozen without. By the time I got the notification and could respond anyone who rang the bell was already off the property.
r/BuyItForLife • Best Doorbell Camera That Doesn't Require A Subscription? ->We put a tapo doorbell in for my mam who has dementia. I have the app on my phone so i can see who's calling. No subscriptions or anything..battery life decent.
r/AskIreland • Can somebody recommend a video doorbell? ->Recently switched all my Google stuff to Tapo. Cameras, doorbells, locks. Way less expensive and local storage. We’re happy.
r/gadgets • Google Nest Cam Outdoor (2025) Review: Gemini Just Lied Too Much ->Tapo are great value overall
r/CasualIreland • Aldi video doorbell, 22 quid?! ->I switched to Tapo by TP-Link. Highly recommend.
r/Ring • What's best alternative to Ring Doorbell (wireless) ->TP-Link's Kasa or Tapo devices are what you want. Get a large enough memory card and you'll have 24/7 recording for a month. Great quality video as well. I previously had Ring, Nest, and Wyze doorbell cameras, my Tapo doorbell camera is superior to those.
r/homeowners • Video Doorbell w/out Subscription? ->I just bought a Tapo. No problems so far
r/smarthome • Looking for a good door bell wireless battery power camera ->Just got a Tapo after Ring contract FINALLY ended. It’s sooo much better.
r/AskUK • Is a doorbell camera worth it? ->Tapo. Hardwired to doorbell wiring so no battery and uses a microsd card
r/homesecurity • Help finding door bell camera that records 24/7 and doesn’t need a subscription. ->We’re replacing all the Blink everything with Tapo. Sooooo much better and roughly the same price.
r/BuyItForLife • Best Doorbell Camera That Doesn't Require A Subscription? ->I've got TP-Link TAPO. Uses an SD card to store footage. There is a subscription if you want it but I don't.
r/AskUK • Can you name some good doorbell cameras without subscription fees? ->Get a TPLink one, the recordings upload to a local SD Card on your own Network.
r/AskUK • Is a doorbell camera worth it? ->I have a Tapo, it was £40, needs charged about once every 2-3 months and just works. Subscription is optional and is £25 for a year, I just use an SD card.
r/AskIreland • Which doorbell camera? ->Tapo is great quality and you can just use an SD card rather than pay a subscription.
r/CasualIreland • Recommendations for doorbell cameras or other cameras for house? ->Tapo. Don't get reolink, unless you can run Poe to your front door. The wifi signal is horrendous through brick. I know this because we struggled with it for nearly two years. At first it was great, no subscription and recording to sd card. Then when we really needed it, it failed. Every time we tried to access it, we could never get it to load first time. The recordings we couldn't access via the app because of the unstable network. We even bought a WiFi range extender to place by the front door which worked absolutely fine with the door open, not when closed. We tried putting it on its own network, worked for a short while then reverted. It got to the point where we replaced all our solar cams that were reolink with tapo wired and all of our inside cameras were tapo that we just decided to get the tapo doorbell as well. It's like night and day. Instant video playback, it even pops up on Alexa show and our TV instantly when someone presses the doorbell. There's even an option to get a hub so that all our cameras can record to that instead of as cards if we want (I think reolink has that option too, it be fair).
r/homeassistant • Best video doorbell recommendation after I was robbed of 3 packages this year ->I’ve just started switching over to Tapo, everything works perfectly with local storage.
r/gadgets • Google Nest Cam Outdoor (2025) Review: Gemini Just Lied Too Much ->Ring doesn’t “call” you but the app allows you to speak to the person at the door. Tapo actually video calls you.
r/smarthome • Advice re Doorbells that call your phone please ->TP-Link. I recently got rid of all my Nest gear and replaced it with Tapo. Free to use, stores data on micro sd cards, free ai tools. Way better app. I couldn’t be happier. My nest doorbell broke after a year. The little plastic knob that locks it into place stopped working. I tried WD40, I tried manual disassembly. The thing is broken. Nest products are just nice looking, expensive, and feature limited products IMO
r/Nest • New 2k Doorbell ->Tapo stores the footage on the camera for the ones I've got (inside only to watch the dog in our case). You can go into the app to pick footage to save and then copy that to your phone but otherwise it's on the local SD card. I've seen people suggesting eufy here - they had a big thing a couple of years ago where they advertised stuff as local only but it was storing a lot of data in the cloud. I wouldn't trust them for that reason. What you're asking for is something like the Ubiquiti kit, but the controller/storage that sits inside the house is another bit of kit you'd have to buy (only one controller for multiple cameras, but still) look at the "unifi cloud key gen 2 plus hybrid controller" for the storage side. Unfortunately you're then into high end home/small business kit, and around £400 for a single doorbell and controller (if the basic doorbell will do the job for you, the pro version appears to have a better speaker but is more). Additional cameras come in from about £100 each afterwards and that same controller can control all the unifi WiFi and networking kit if you ever look to go that way, but the cost of entry to the ecosystem is higher by some margin.
