The original Wyze doorbell doesn’t have sd storage but the new one does, I have been thinking about upgrading but I can’t justify it because the old one still works fine it just doesn’t have local storage like all of my other Wyze cams

I had the Wyze doorbell launch edition. It was great for about a year and then I started having tons of problems with the cloud storage (which I started having to pay for and somehow got worse) I ended up the Wyze doorbell 2 which Has a MicroSD slot. It's been perfect for a couple years now and was like $50 for the video doorbell and chime module (hooks up to the factory chime box) I wish it supported the 110v wall wart chimes from the old one. I think I had to replace the SD card once but That's pretty minor.

I've been happy with my Wyze doorbells, having switched from Arlo a few years ago. (Plural, because I keep upgrading them.) There's a good chance that your Arlo issue is just due to the age of the camera, if yours is the original from 2019. The technology has come a long way very quickly, I'm pretty sure a Wyze Doorbell v1 would also feel slow these days.

Also technically Wyze, but then you're locked into their app to view.

Nope, I decided I'm fine staying in their ecosystem. It does 98% of what I need, and I decided that anything that fills in those last 2% isn't important enough for me to spend the time and money chasing perfection.

Ring has been in hot water recently for letting law enforcement (ice) use your cam to find folks. If that concerns you (it should), research that prior. Eufy has also had some bad PR in regards to privacy and then trying to lie about it. At least with Wyze, I don't expect the most secure system at that price. And that's fine, I just don't use their cameras indoors. As for Wyze, my v1 doorbell was the only wyze product I have that failed after a couple years. It was great while it lasted though. And I can replace it and still be less than a single ring.

I use Wyze brand. I have multiple cameras inside/outside and just hit the doorbell. Had the ring but after 10 years it died. Wyze is very easy to setup. The app is very easy to navigate, the picture quality is great. Tge Wyze has a bigger view then Ring on the doorbell camera.

Cheap and you just pop an SD card in there and don't need their cloud subscription. Granted if you actually want to retrieve that footage it's sorta a pain (it saves in 1 minute increments so you'd need to use 3rd party software to stitch it together) but I really like how easy they are to use.

I would not recommend the Wyze doorbell for this, I have one and I love it, because i specifically wanted SD card storage, but the google home integration is severely lacking, I can view the video on my hub if i ask for it, but it won't do anything automatically, and if i try to have it notify me when it rings, it notifies me for every darn notification for movement, not just button press.

Well...there's few doorbell cams that have local storage, we use a Wyze which will record to an SD card and we just access the footage from the app. It works well though lots of people have issues with Wyze for privacy issues. We have a couple solar outdoor cameras, again they record to an SD card and you access the footage from an app... They all do about the same thing to be honest. You're going to be hard pressed on free + AI integration, that's how the companies continue to make money is by charging you for extra services, cloud storage and AI are usually two of those things. I have heard very good things about the Eufy ecosystem, they have a dedicated base unit they record to, so you don't actually need to worry about cloud, and if a camera breaks or is lost/stolen, the footage isn't lost with the camera. They also have solar cameras and a door bell so no batteries. I have not tried them though as I'm not really needing to upgrade from what we have at the moment since it all works (well enough)

I know Wyze gets a lot of hate (didn't find out till after I bought it) but ours rings mine, my husband, and step moms phones, as well as the indoor chime.

I have, the bell was kinda dirt cheap compared to the rest of them for what I wanted, which was specifically to ring my indoor chime, and it's one of the few that has an SD card slot so you don't have to rely on the cloud service unless you want the ai features or alerts (which I didn't) it still alerts you if the door bell rings without the subscription. SD card was important to me because WI-FI can be jammed and it's primarily a security camera for me. I did end up adding a bead of hot glue across the top to deter theft since it's not a security bracket like the ring.
