Facebook marketplace. You can get some decent ones new to you. Edit: just wanted to add that I picked up a Bose 700 for $200. Found another post for both sound bar and sub 700 for $400, but they were sold faster than I can message the seller.

I bought a refurbished Bose smart 700 soundbar recently, is the Bose 550 better than that? I know the 700 doesn’t have Dolby atmos

Tried the 550, imo it doesn’t sound as good as 700

While the label on the system says "ARC", the [SB700 ](https://bose.fandom.com/wiki/Smart_Soundbar_700)does support eARC. Though as you pointed out, it does not have top firing speakers for full Atmos support. If you have the choice, I would go for the Ultra as it does support AI Dialog, improved Bluetooth, and Personal Surround.

I have the SoundLink flex. Love those speakers. And have the old Bose 700 with a bass module. Love both for different reasons. AUX cable may work.

One thing that a sound bar can not replicate is separation. If you have more separation space between the speaker placement than the length of a sound bar I would go the AVR route if possible. I have been using both a complete Bose 700 setup in the man cave for years and for the last few months a Sonos Arc/Minisub/Era 100 setup in the LR. They both sound OK but lacked in music with the Bose sounding better to my ears. I missed the stereo (2 ch) experience and am replacing the man cave system with a AVR setup. My Journey: Experimenting I got a Martin Logan/Wiim (B1 speakers/steaming amp) combo on sale with a REL sub to audition in my space and see if it is something worth pursuing. After setting it up and listening to it for a few hours there is no going back to a soundbar for me. I use an hardwired Apl TV as a source. Now I am on a new AVR journey. Last time I was doing serious audio things was in the '80s. The Martin Logan B1 speakers are 7 1/4 inches wide (18.5 cm) if that would be a consideration. 4 of those, a center, sub and an AVR receiver could be had around your price point. M2C

We have Bose 700, 700 sub and 700 surrounds. We also have Samsung q990b with sub and surrounds. We’ve had the Bose for ~5 years and the Samsung for probably 2. The Bose has been very consistent, strong bass, especially with music. The Samsung sounds good too, but we are a little less thrilled with it. The sub keeps disconnecting randomly. Pretty annoying for a +$1000 setup. It started happening when we switched to Google Fiber and some say there’s an issue with the 5ghz channel and it causes the sub to disconnect. We have no issues like this with the Bose. Just something to keep in mind.

Because one guy here was asking - here is a short comparison between the sound of the B9 and my Bose soundbar 700 with subwoofer (recorded on iPhone 14 Pro): Bravia 9: https://youtu.be/N8GHdcyQ-OE?si=UVAx5_q_1faLx5Ya Bose Soundbar 700 + Subwoofer: https://youtu.be/jdIkqzljaJY?si=YwCSnu3obNxLpE-A It’s so good that I wouldn’t get a soundbar if I hadn’t one already. I guess to improve the TVs sound, one would have to invest in a really more sophisticated surround sound system.

I had the Bose 700 with the 700 sub and 700 surround. Used it for 5 years but was always very dissapointed in the sound. I kept it because it was exspensive to me. This year i purchased the Samsung Q990D and what a world of difference.

I am in the same boat. Interested in finding out. I am also have trouble connecting the ARC port on 700 to ARC port on my Sony Bravia 70inch tv. It doesn’t work and Sony is not recognizing the soundbar as a known device for Bravia sync

Just for reference, I got used Bose TV Speakers for my parents at $50 a pop with eARC support. These are bad. Minor upgrade to your TV at best. They are worth $40 itself. Yamaha ATS soundbars from eBay are $40 refurbished and they have better sound + subwoofer out. IMO better to get premium soundbars used since they hold value like copper infused gold.

I don’t really follow the market . But for compact speakers Samsungs/LGs do have speakers with center channels (3.0 or more) which help tremendously with dialogue, something that most TV speakers struggle with. I like to get Bose for my parents just purely because they are dead simple to use, well built, and go pretty loud without the risk of permanently damaging them. Hope that helps. eBay refurbs with 20% coupons, Amazon resale clearance when they run extra % off, if you’re not too keen on hitting up facebook marketplace. But you do pay a hefty fee for convenience.
