So we are doing several remodeling projects around the house and it is time for a new tv and soundbar. We are currently running an old Samsung with a Bose Soundtouch 300 sounbar. Both have been good for the past 10+ years. Max size tv is a 55" due to the width of the cabinet. This was designed 20 years ago for a dlp tv to sit in the opening behind the current tv. Main use is for watching streaming services using a 3rd party device, currently a Firestick. Music is not played often through the soundbar. With the vaulted ceilings of the room using atmos is out, no ceiling to bounce the sound off of. I will need a sounbar that this feature can be turned off. Also, I do not have a place to put powered rear speakers either. I am looking at Samsung OLEDs for the room. Maybe a S95H or F. If I go that route I am looking at Samsung soundbars like the Q990F - which I read that you can take the rears and reconfigure them to make the wide front firing speakers. I am also looking at S801D due to the ultra thin design, or the SQ90H. I am not opposed to looking at other televisions since it is just being used as a monitor. Same with looking at soundbars outside the Samsung ecosystem. Outside of Samsung I have looked at the Sennheiser AMBEO, but it is pricey. One feature I really like with my Bose is the 'Green light' function for voice clarity. With the shape of the room what would you suggest or use if this was your room. I am also thinking about mounting the new soundbar above the tv so I can lower the new tv and few inches.
i think i prefer the sound signature of the bose more (call me basic i guess) but i wanted atmos. had the soundtouch 300, the acoustimass sub, and 2 surrounds.
The Soundbar 700 is almost as old as my Soundtouch 300 Soundbar and I am pretty sure I bought it back in 2018 and it has been discontinued for years. That was over 8 years ago. To this date most controllers for electric equipment I've owned from many brands have needed to be replaced at the 5 year mark whether I pull out the batteries before they leak or not. My last 2 TVs from Sony and Samsung bought after 2020 and 2023 needed new controllers 2 years after buying them and neither company replaced them for free. The only Bose controllers that still work for me after 10-25+ years are those with batteries that look like quarters (2032) and miraculously the only ones with AAAs I have that still work, are the large illuminated remotes for the Acoustic Wave Music System, Wave Radio/CD II and Wave Soundtouch Music System IV. I don't consider any of the equipment I've bought crap or low quality because the remotes died and I don't expect any company to replace them free after 5+ years of using the equipment. I did expect Sony and Samsung to be more helpful but I just bought unbranded remotes that look exactly like the originals for around $10 and problem solved. Get the remote that looks the most like yours on Amazon if it has good reviews, or get a used one guaranteed to work on eBay and save some money from getting a new one directly from Bose.
I can’t argue with Sonos issues. They are widely reported. Bose is far from perfect also. They discontinue products and leave support in limbo whereas Sonos seems to support them longer. That said, I just switched from a Bose SoundTouch 300 to a Sonos Beam 2 + Sub Mini. It has been flawless thus far. Also have one Era 300 and one Era 100 attached to my network. Again, no issues with those either. Hopefully they have turned the corner.
If at all possible, I’d highly advise listening to whatever you can. Sound is incredibly subjective. For me personally, based on past experience with Bose, I would not recommend. They discontinued support, they released new product and have disabled features of products people have already owned. I have since switched to Sonos and while I’m not having any issues, other have reported issues. So they aren’t perfect either. I don’t know anything about the Sennheiser product to comment on that.
i still have mine the Mini II SE and Type C. for me there will never be a replacement for its small size yet big sound. i also have the Soundtouch 300. you should've considered the Bose Soundbar Ultra as it sounds very similar to Soundlink Mini II.
still using my bose soundtouch 300+ bass 700+ rears. i have a small living room with not too high ceiling so its really more than enough for me. i heard a demo of a Atmos soundbar setup and yes it really depends on the space, ceiling height at materials. there is sound upwards but its not good. make you wonder why there is no one reviewing how ATMOS upfiring speaker sounds like "tight bass, luscious mids and clear highs" 🤡
Asking myself the same question : I had a Bose SoundTouch 300 with bass module and rear speakers , and I loved it , but the motherboard of the soundbar crashed , and it has been impossible to find a way to repair it ( Bose has completely abandoned the hardware support of older models ) I’m currently investigating those options : 1 ) going with Bose again and the soundbar smart ultra, because I already own 2 pieces of hardware that can complete this setup: but I’m disappointed at how Bose is dealing with their customers , and also lacking connectivity on it ( only 1 hdmi for earc) 2) the Samsung q990f , which is a all in one solution and with outstanding reviews ( but less good for music , where I’m really looking for a versatile system) 3 the Harman kardon enchant 1100 with sub and rear: I like the design and I know the brand makes good audio product , but I’m scared of the lack of reviews it seems to be more versatile than the Samsung, and I like the fact that the rear can also be used as single speakers to take with you on holiday for example. My parents have a pair of citations ( the previous models before the enchant) and they are very happy with it) For me the jbl is like the hamran kardon but without the benefits of having two rears that you can take with you. So honestly I’ll not be able to help you , it’s just some thought that might get you to decide which one you’ll go for
I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW... I'm driving of the path of talking about Bose. I JUST recently got rid of my Bose SoundTouch 300 Soundbar and Bose Acoustimass 300 Sub this week, after 7yrs of use. It was the best decision of a home theater setup for the price. Now, I replaced it with Sennheiser Ambeo Max Soundbar and Martinlogan Dynamo 10 600X, both from Bestbuy open-box. 👀... get the Sennheiser Ambeo Max Soundbar from Bestbuy. It's on sale for $1699 BUT open-box in excellent condition between $700-$1000. Afterwards, you can look for a great Subwoofer as well. I found an open-box Martinlogan Dynamo 600X for $135. You can also multiple HDMI ports to the soundbar.
