I just returned my Hisense AX5100Gs for being overall a very horrible low quality sound system. But one thing it had going for it was its rather good Implementation of Dolby Atmos, being a real 5.1 system with rear satellites and all. Looking for a replacement I came across the massively reduced Philips TAB7908/10 Soundbar. Which is a 5.1.2 system but unlike the Hisense with its dedicated rear satellites, the Philips has all its non-subwoofer drivers in the Soundbar. My question is what's the Dolby Atmos experience like with those? Will I feel the fact that the rear channels are still in front of me? Can a Surround Soundbar produce similar results or should I keep looking for a solution that has dedicated rear satellites?

I see. the Hisense had 2 actual satellites that I placed to the rear so it was a proper 5.1 system whereas the Philips have the Center, front, upwards AND rear channels all built into the soundbar with the rear channels firing sideways at an angle. I was skeptical about whether this would give me anywhere close of the results I had with the Hisense in terms of Dolby Atmos support. Yes the Hisense did not have any upwards firing speakers but the surround experience in and of itself was still jaw droppingly amazing for me, even though literally everything else about the soundbar sucked. I am now looking at the Ultimea Nova S80 which is a 5.1.2 system with a soundbar that includes upwards firing speakers, a subwoofer AND 2 rear sattelites. I live in a single bedroom apartment with strict noise regulations so my room is small, and I neither have the space nor the money for a proper home theater setup. I just want something that "gets the job done" without any major hiccups. So I hope the S80s are good enough because reviews all look very positive. if they can emulate the experience of the Hisense without sounding like utter dogshit, then I am happy. The Hisense were pretty much unlistenable, especially when watching dialogue heavy content such as news.

I actually wasn't even looking at this company until recently. My dad got a 5.1 setup from the same brand and said it is decent and the sub does alot more than the one I got with a 5.1 from Hisense. That's why I starting looking at them. Based on other comments I think I'll either try it anyway and return it or just steer clearΒ

For $96 there is a hisense 5.1 with a sub and two speakers. Hisense is absolutely cheap , but it was a much difference to me compared to price value of the TCL S45H

Awful in comparison. Was unable to control the subwoofer and it was definitely trying to deliver low vocals which just made the little speaker rumble and it sounded awful. Unplugging it was generally the only solution. The speakers were alright ISH. But only a slight improvement over the TV. Had constant e arch issues. Would go back to arc it wouldn't always work with Dolby Atmos. It was just rubbish.

Exactly!!! Recently upgraded from Hisense HS218 2.1ch to HS5100 5.1ch and the difference is day and night!πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ€—. The feeling is quite amazing!

r/Soundbars β€’ TV speakers were my default for 10 years and finally switched to a budget 5.1 surround soundbar; best investment I made in a few years. ->
