Hey, I have the JBL 1000 and it's a spectacular piece of kit. The results from doing my research in an OCD fashion (as is tradition) my findings that would correspond with your request is the Ultimea Poseidon D50 ($140). Ultimea.com or banggood.com would be your best bet to order without paying freight cost also. Good luck!

I have both. Two q990d both purchased after having the JBL bar 1000 for a year In my ears the bar 1000 is clearly inferior Bass is heavier in the JBL but to me it sounds cheap or overpowering most of the time With the q990d I feel is better in every way But I do feel like I needs bit more oomph If I was Best Buy I would try to move my JBL bar 1000 stock, the q990d will sell on it’s own

Probably get eviscerated for this but went to NFM Black Friday with the full intention of buying the Samsung 990 or 800. Walked out with the JBL 1000 for $599. To me, it was more impressive than the Samsung line and less $. Sales guy said it was priced wrong? Anyway…surprised it’s not mentioned more. (I prefer big theatre bass though) My only mistake wasn’t getting the 1300 for an extra $200 but my wife would’ve killed me.

I had JBL and sent straight back next day maybe it’s just my opinion but was not loud enough it only went to max volume 30 and that wasn’t even that loud Samsung goes al the way to 100 as is loud as The JBL is way to bass heavy and the clarity is poor

I have the JBL Bar 1000 and really like it. Well worth the money if you can get it at a discount. Finding a Chinese knock off will really compromise on quality. See if you can get a used JBL bar 5.1 or 9.1 maybe?

I have a LG G4 and a JBL Bar 1000 mainly due to the detachable, battery powered rear speakers. Pretty happy with it! Before that I briefly had the LG DS77 soundbar, which looked and worked great, but had a Subwoofer malfunction leading me to return it. Imo, WOW Orchestra is not worth it, it sounds noticeably worse than just the soundbar itself. The advantage of getting an LG soundbar (imo) with an LG TV are the easy controls via the TV settings and getting to use the AI sound features and various settings.

I ended up getting the JBL Bar 1000 and very happy with it. Although I think the Samsung bars sound superior even; reason I opted for JBL is to have the detachable rear speakers, which were the only workable solution for my living room setup.

Im not sure what the prices are where you are, but I've got a JBL bar 1000. It has detachable wireless rear speakers that you can put behind you to watch a movie, then attach them back to the sound bar when watching normal TV or anything that you dont feel needs so much emersion. I really like the sound of mine. It's worth checking out. The sub also gets very loud (you can feel it), if that's your thing.

I've got the JBL 1000, set below the one you tested with fewer speakers and 10" sub vs 12" on the 1300. But it packs a punch still!. Im really happy with it and still can't have the sub on the top level because I dont want to piss the neighbours off!

I've got the JBL Bar 1000, and I am very happy with it. Down firing sub that gives plenty of bass and detachable rear speakers. You can also get over models in the JBL bar range for cheaper, including the bar 9.1, which is very similar to the 1000 but just an older model There isn't that much out there review wise as the Samsungs seem to be the most popular. But, I tested the JBL and loved it for the sub and the detachable, rechargeable rear speakers in an awkward space I have where I can't really have a big speaker setup and permanent rear speakers.

Yes, it's an awesome soundbar. I scooped one up new when I saw it on sale for $999CAD. If you want to make it even better hold down mute for 3 seconds and press +. It will disable smart mode and dialogue will sound much richer and more distinct. Sadly you have to do this every time you power it on or wake it up from sleep, so my solution is to just never turn it off (I put my fire cube into sleep mode and that keeps the Bar 1000 on as it's connected via eArc).

Seconded Samsung 9 series. Just pick based on price and room size. JBL Bar 1000(and above) are a great option if rear speaker situation can’t be hard wired to power, but I feel no other brand does a packaged unit quite as well. Bose is hella expensive for minor gains OR if you can truly appreciate the ribbon tweeter system, but it’s mainly a music based soundbar in my opinion. Sonos is… well… going through some stuff at the moment (and also expensive to boot). Sony is like a “build your own” bullshit thing and they don’t even sound great compared to a Samsung combo. LG… I think they have one half decent bar… the rest are weird. Saw a full semi premium multi channel atmos system of theirs… with NO WIFI for casting, at the same price Samsung was doing a full featured front end unit… I couldn’t get my head around it I’ve been rocking a 2020ish model Samsung 870 on my LG oled and it does a bang up job. Samsung is a safe bet for bang for buck. JBLs (which is technically Samsung anyway) has a 10” downfiring sub which will thump like thors hammer… so be cautious of shared walls.

All I can say is that I tried Onn soundbar at cad110 and then JBL soundbar costing CAD 260. I returned them both because bass sound was good but I couldn’t understand a word of any dialog. I returned them both and bought JBL bar1000 at $1k. My conclusion is that cheap soundbar will never satisfy you and not worth it

Have you downloaded the Jbl one app? In the app there should be an equalizer. For my model (jbl 1000) the equalizer is 7 band. So the middle Band 1k is for voice. If I feel some content has low voice, I usually increase the voice bands. I would also suggest playing with different content because they don’t all sound the same. I feel like downloaded torrent movies usually have very low voice and loud actions on mine for example. Also want to mention the effect button on the remote. I’m not sure if your model has this, there’s a button with a Dolby DD logo on it. It makes the surround effect more or less. I hope it helps… https://preview.redd.it/ksvkxh55pnfe1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=498ab95b16350531e4f94a484e0cb624aa93f48d

I have the Jbl bar 1000. 1300 is same price as Q990D and it’s better in my opinion. Edit: unless the tv is Samsung. If the tv is Samsung, then I would go for the Samsung q990D. Because with the Q-symphony added it becomes a lot better.

Saw a replacement battery for Jbl on the internet for 22$ 🤷‍♂️ I mean I don’t know how easy it would be to replace… But my rears last for like two days without returning back to the dock right now and they are about a month old… maybe after a year they will start losing their capacity just like a cellphone does I guess. My only complain with the Jbl bar is that one of the speaker battery discharges faster 🙊

I have really bad ringing in ears and slight hearing loss.  Yes soundbar makes a huge difference in sound for me.  Tv speakers are horrible for sound I have hard time hearing dialog on them.  Bought JBL Bar 1000 such a huge improvement.

Try something like this.  I live in apartment with thin walls and have been able to turn up bass a little more after buying.  Had bass set 3 out of 5 before.  Now set to max.  Have JBL Bar 1000. https://www.amazon.com/Sound-Addicted-VibeBoss-P10-Subwoofers/dp/B08RNJPX7L?pd_rd_w=xchbn&content-id=amzn1.sym.b2dda650-bb2c-43e6-8cb2-641e68ec0739&pf_rd_p=b2dda650-bb2c-43e6-8cb2-641e68ec0739&pf_rd_r=GW71KKPJKEYXFVY30HT5&pd_rd_wg=XQaBn&pd_rd_r=e2188458-3b4c-4e96-a3ee-2a65c17d794f&pd_rd_i=B08RNJPX7L&psc=1&ref_=pd_bap_m_grid_dv_rp_0_5_t

I live in a apartment as well and keep my soundbar on the lower end. I have JBL Bar 1000, but I bought one of these and it helped with the bass not rattling walls. Just make sure if you buy one you don't put subwoofer really close to a wall. It helps with the vibrations. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08RNJPX7L?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title You don't have to buy that particular one as many other companies make them. I had to turn bass down to level 3 out of 5 without it. When using this I can turn up to 5 without any complaints.

Soundbar same position your in and I bought sounbar with subwoofer. Totally worth it. Also consider buying one of these for sub as it eliminates the unwanted vibrations in walls and stuff. I bought JBL Bar 1000 for my bedroom in apartment. Bass was set at max everyone complained turned down to 3. After buying this turned back to max which is 5 and no complaints. https://www.amazon.com/Sound-Addicted-VibeBoss-P10-Subwoofers/dp/B08RNJPX7L?pd_rd_w=eKvnv&content-id=amzn1.sym.84b7b2d6-d963-4882-a1dc-a3d3c52391a8&pf_rd_p=84b7b2d6-d963-4882-a1dc-a3d3c52391a8&pf_rd_r=HWGP1FJS20YBB5M78914&pd_rd_wg=stAr5&pd_rd_r=aeea6f11-ab15-40d7-b123-6c6edd30881d&pd_rd_i=B08RNJPX7L&psc=1&ref_=pd_bap_m_grid_dv_rp_0_4_t

Apart from the massive floor rumble (play independence day part 1 opening scene) on jbl, one will always struggle on dialogue clarity and absence of speaker levels on jbl. Smsung 990 is a true winner. Even better - take samsung 930b/c/d and save even more cash to enjoy an extremely good soundbar that samsung provides!

I have a decent home theater set up in my mancave, but in the small living room, I have a JBL 1000 soundbar. The smaller version of what you are thinking about with detachable speakers. It's fine for a soundbar and that is all the space can accommodate. I don't have the space for even bookshelf speakers due to furniture, doors, etc. , so I got the JBL. However, it sounds like your space can handle a 2.1-5.1 system, I would take that over the micro-sized speakers that provide '7.1.4' surround from a sound bar. The tech in the soundbars are honestly kinda amazing for what it is. It does fake that kind of system, but still all the bot responses in this forum that say don't buy a soundbar have a point. Speaker size matters. I would be tempted to keep your Marantz and just update the speakers and maybe get a universal remote so the family can just push a button? Also, the JBL has a mind of it's own when it comes to the HDMI inputs when first powered on. It has a hard time staying on just one until it settles down, perhaps because of the cable box and Apple TV each wanting to be dominate. Anyway, family blames me for it every time.

I had same requirement. Not an audiophile and wanted to have decent audio via soundbar. Went with jbl bar 1000 and I'm more than happy with my choice. Music is excellent to my needs. Movies are on next level with detachable rear speakers. Try it out. PS. People were complaining that jbl are to much on bass. True but you have 5 levels of bass to adjust and also eq in app to even do more tweaks.
