I got a JBLSB170 $190usd for a regular size bedroom and was actually stunned how well the little subwoofer integrated with it. I have wanted to upgrade the bedroom bar a few times but every time I think about doing it I just don’t have any need really. I also have a 2.1 desktop setup that I play my music on so the soundbar does just fine for movies/shows which is all I really need it for.

I have a JBL sb170 with sub and it’s good for the price. I use it in my bedroom and the bass surprised me from day 1. Maybe you could find a good Black Friday deal coming up. Another option is checking FB or used market a lot of decent speakers/soundbars in my area for good prices.

I know this is even cheaper than your budget but the JBL cinema sb170 does a great job a boosting voice. There’s a button on the remote just for that. Sub $200 it’s worth a look

Don’t waste your money. I got a budget bar JBL SB170 and it has been great for my bedroom.

r/BudgetAudiophileIs budget active bookshelf speakers with no sub still better than budget soundbar with sub?

I disagree unless you are using the speakers just for music. If you watch movies the soundbar/sub combo will do better. I have a both btw and use the edifiers/dayton 10” for a desktop setup which is great. The JBL sb170 has better integration and sounds better for movies shows.

I could be wrong but reading your post it sounds like you are looking more toward a soundbar and not necessarily surrounds or even a sub. If that is the case something like the JBL 2.1 there are I believe 2 versions of that wouldn't be to expensive, or the Bose Smart soundbar 300 if you can find one for a good price. I have an old Samsung A650 from 2020 that has wireless rear speakers connected to a modual but I busted it out to compare for use in a spare room so only had the bar and sub plugged in, but it really isn't to bad. That isn't one I would necessarily seek out now but you could find something used especially something considered more TOTL at the time and probably get it for a good price.
