I think the LG S90TR is looking like the best mid-range pick this year, 7.1.3 Atmos, great dialogue clarity, and solid bass for the price. The Samsung HW-Q800D is another strong option if you want something punchy and immersive. If you’re short on space, the Sonos Beam Gen 2 is still a really solid compact choice.
I got the S90TR on FB marketplace for 350. Still over your budget but maybe look there for a good deal.
The S90TR is actually what made me give LG a chance because in the in-store demo for that thing was a BEAST! Unfortunately that is not an option for me in my living conditions plus it was $800 (on-sale) so I had to look elsewhere. I bought the SC9S thinking I might get the same bam but no cigar plus, like I said to someone else, you can’t get rear speakers for it, it’s discontinued, and the app support isn’t very good. That’s putting my subjective standards aside on its sound performance. I was contemplating the Sonos and I heard the same thing about the Sennheiser AMEBO being the cats pajamas but my wallet doesn’t agree plus for that price point I would rather get a full system later in life. So I landed on Klipsch after reviewing and looking at recommendations and I’m very happy. I’m not shoehorned into a specific manufacturer market and I can upgrade it in the future (if stuff doesn’t get discontinued). I am jealous of your S90TR setup though lol
In a similar boat... the reddit community seems very downbeat on LG Soundbars so considering selling my new S90TR despite good RTings review
I really enjoyed the S90TR demo i had today vs the jbl 1300 and Q990f. LG isn't that bad i dont understand the hate
I can recommend the LG S90TR 🙂
See if you can get an LG S90TR. That model should be cheaper than the new S95AR. I've been pretty happy with mine. Though I do wish it put out more bass from the sub.
I got an open box (rated excellent) from Best Buy for $637 (+tax) for the LG S90TR. Haven't set it up yet.
So I just got out set up, aside from the rear speakers. NOT very impressed 🤬 I have it set with the Orchestra setting, and I'm not seeing any of the reported delays (yet), but the sub is no better than my old SLY8G!!! I'm not hearing any "thump"! Additionally, with the SLY8G I couldn't turn the soundbar volume up over maybe 17. The S90TR needs to go upwards of 40-50! WTF?! Someone else posted about tweaked settings, so I have to check that. Right now, I'm not seeing it live up to the hype - or the cost. Sure, it's handy to be all wireless, but right now, that's the only plus I'm seeing. 😕
Not a bad price, though I have seen better posted. I have an LG S90TR myself, and am saddened by the lack of bass. 😕
I’m honestly curious to hear other responses. The s70 was on my short list due to the price. It seems the community has mixed reactions towards LG systems generally and every Reddit thread I can find on the subject pretty much suggests returning it and to buy a Samsung q990 instead. I just bought an s90tr to pair with my g5. Open box both items (~870 for the g5 and 580 for the s90). The s90 will be here Thursday, and I’ll let you know my thoughts on it after I get it set up. Edit: just got the s90 set up. It’s going to take me a minute to get it dialed in. Initial impression: I’m stoked on it, and it’s great for my living room. The rear speakers seem to be a little too loud, as in there is more audio, specifically dialogue, coming through the rears than I expected or am used to. Set to -2db for now and it’s more enjoyable. The bass is…inconsistent? The ai test sequence was booming and shook my couch, but it’s quiet and subdued in movies and shows. Going to increase it by 2-4db. I probably would have been fine with the s70, but I’m definitely not disappointed with the s90. Cheers and good luck.
I have the S90TR and its great value for the money. The dialogues are clear, the surround (due to the rear speakers) is good and the bass is strong. Just reduce the bass a bit (i have it on -2).
