Multiple Brands (Roku and TCL) - Q85H (2024)

I connect to the soundbar's network with my laptop. I installed an Android emulator and the TCL home app, but it doesn't connect to the soundbar. Those who managed to do it could write what phone they used to do it.

Yes, the wind noise remained. I don't know why and whether the TCL will fix it.There is no other update at the moment.

Hello, today I managed to update my TCL q85h with a USB device to v27. I decided to try again, turned on USB mode, removed the power cable, pressed the power button, inserted the flash drive and turned on the power again. But nothing happened, so I removed the flash drive, formatted it with this program EaseUS Partition Master, and named it QX5H. The device remained turned on and in USB mode. I inserted the flash drive and the update began.The flash drive is Adata USB 3 and the port is USB 3.

Apparently there is a problem with Android devices. It tries to connect but says it cannot configure IP. Can anyone give an idea how to solve the problem?

I Dont have the wind noise on volume 5 and Higher anymore. The only thing i hate is That on C845 tutti choral does not work with Q85H. :(

 No you don't. Just updatu firmware ver. 38.xxxxxx it will be ok. Problems with sound are fixed.  Firmware version 27.xxxx and lower having sound issues. Use iphone airplay to upgrade and don't bother to search on internet for update File ver 38.xxx. you wont find it :( even official support web provides only ver. 27.xxxxx

yes there is the wind noise still but subwoofer ist for me better maybe in future updates will fix the wind noise i have v38

also q85h non pro comes with earc port hdmi 2.1 , most important thing like my bro said , connect it via apple airplay or google chromecast to you local wifi and get the latest firmware ( now FW 38) via the tcl home app, sound should be much better than in FW 24 the default one or from v 27 which can be downloaded from their website. I wish the morons from TCL will continue to improve the product fix the echos, muffled surround and low voice channel even furder Also tell the people how to upgrade the damn firmware via the app, If you dont connect the tcl soundbar to the internet there is no ota firmware upgrade

I live and bought it in the Netherlands but the product is not on the dutch website. Looks like the webshop I bought it from got it from Germany as it is on the German TCL website but they do not offer a firmware (yet) and TCL told me that it is different for all regions. Where are you all from? Is there anyone who managed to update the firmware in Europe?

Does anyone know after the latest firmware updates, how would this compare to a LG S90TR or some of the Samsungs? I've heard it's kind of boomy and sometimes dialogue can be muddy.

That's what I was wondering, it's odd that Rtings didn't mention it at all. They said they had firmware 37 installed so I was hoping that firmware fixed the issue. Since some people have this issue and some do not, I wonder if it's actually something besides software such as interference or actually an issue with the signal a certain group of TV's is putting out....maybe the rears are actually playing something they are receiving. I went and listened to these at Best Buy and put my ear right up to the rears and couldn't hear any wind....no idea what firmware. The speaker system was connected to a TCL 85" QM8. But I think you're correct, I probably shouldn't risk it.

I just picked this soundbar system on Amazon for $400. Thanks for the tip on how to update the firmware to 38.19.19.33 I have a tcl 6 series and the soundbar through earc hdmi 3 on TV and earc on soundbar. One question, is there any indicator for atmos when that content is played? I have gone to Netflix or YouTube to run atmos tests and the digital display behind the grill never says atmos. Is is supposed to indicate it when it first receives the content? Thanks

Thank you. I never get the Dolby atmos on the display. Reset the tcl 6 series audio video setting and setup the q85h again. Same thing. I am going to try my 75" tv tomorrow. I think it's something with the TV. It says when I play atmos demos on youtube Hello HDMI EARC Dolby Surround Tried a few hdmi cables. Reset the TV. Reset the soundbar. Edit: I installed the Dolby Roku channel. I now see Dolby Atmos in their demos. It must be roku youtube doesn't output atmos.

There is a software update available on TCL WEBSITE which fixes all of its issues. You have to manually update via USB drive unfortunately. The sucky firmware is v24 and the latest on TCL is v27. Ok so TCL has a lot of work to do on their app. Aparently there is an infinitely newer version than v27 thats on the website and you need to download it via the app. Only thing is the soundbar is not connected to the internet. How to fix this you ask? Well it's simple, Hold power+ volume + and - on soundbar for 4 seconds, which will turn on the soundbar wifi(yes it has wifi!!!!) then connect your phone to the wifi which will prompt the wizard to connect soundbar to local wifi network. After that return to TCL app and voila!!!! V [38.19.19.33](http://38.19.19.33) is available to update. It is bad, I know, i just discovered this by accident when attempting to use airplay.

4 FW versions later they are not great. Atmos sounds great and music is also great. But watching Cable TV or Youtube podcasts/videos, you can hear an annoying echo muffled sound. Kinda like that crap 7.1 virtual headphones used to make. It's like the soundbar doesn't understand stereo signals and tries to make it surround and ends up dogshitting it.

Just skip the headaches of manually upgrading the firmware and just hold power+ volume + and - on the soundbar for 4 seconds to turn on wifi then connect with your phone to the TCL Q85H that pops up in wifi networks. This will prompt the wizard to connect the soundbar to your local wifi and internet. After that just go into your TCL Home App and if you have previously added your soundbar and have auto updates enabled, you will get a firmware pop-up to upload to V38. Sound is much better than v24 or v27, it almost sounds full now and not muddied even on non atmos content. The sound still has a slight echo but i belive that's most likely because of the wireless setup, maybe not the greatest latency wise. Atmos content sounds great now (finally) The chip inside and the speakers array is more than capable of matching any high end soundbars out there but there is still some work on the firmware. You can do it TCL !!!!

The TV automatically switches to the supported format (you can go to TV audio and check if the format is Dolby Digital + or PCM when playing atmos title - PCM is stereo or 5.1 surround and DD+ is Atmos) But how to they sound? do you hear the wind noise coming from the speakers? That's what bugs me the most about them. And the lack of customizable EQ.

v27 improves on the v24 but v38 improves everything even more. You get a much better soundstage now when playing non atmos content. The cost, i am still not convinced. Picked up mine for 350 euros. I still belive that non atmos content sounds better on my old 5.1 logitech z905, including music but thats because the speakers are 3 times the size. Maybe if you get them for 300 or less, that's a steal. Or if they improve the sound even more with fw updates they might be worth 350-400 but no more than that.

Dogshit of a review. It doesn't mention anything about the wind noise coming out of the speakers when listening to non dolby content. Either that or i have a defective unit.

I used an iphone 12 mini. My pixel 7 didn't work. You HAVE TO factory reset the soundbar (power+Vup+Vdown) after that it should say wi-fi not connected on the soundbar. Next you go to the phone and connect to the soundbar in the wi-fi list and it will automatically setup airplay. Even if you succed don't expect amazing results with the new update. Alittle better, yes but not amazing.

For me it worked after a couple of tries and only with AirPlay(Iphone). You may have to try a couple of times It took me 2 days to do it. After factory reset(power and "+" and "-") it should say wifi not connected, after that from the phone you connect to its wifi and tap set up airplay device then you open the TCL app and will see the update.

Amazon currently has this at $400. If you own a TCL TV, this is a goddamn steal once one upgrades to the V27 update.

I have a TCL Q85H (7.1.4) setup. Soundbar, sub, and two satellite speakers. After a few rounds of firmware updates, it sounds fantastic and I actually have my Panasonic UB-820 plugged directly into it.

Have you done firmware updates? I ended up purchasing the Q85H when Amazon had it for $400. I have the firmware updated (38.19.19.33) and the only issues I have is when it comes to anything not in surround sound (stereo content only). It tries to shoot the audio throughout all channels/satellites versus just keeping it to left/center/right. Anything 5.1 / 7.1 / Atmos / DTS-X has been completely fine. Per RTings: I setup AI Sonic based upon where I usually sit, EQ mode is set to standard, bass is set to medium, treble is set to high, and speaker volume is set to medium.

I bought the Q85 yesterday and returned it today. I didn’t like the sound at all and dialogue was especially low. I’m coming from a Vizio V51 and thought the sound from that was better, even if not as ‘wide’. There was a firmware upgrade for it right out of the box which made it sound better, but again, not great. I have a TCL 75Q650 and was hoping pairing it with that would be a winning combination, but it wasn’t. I just ordered the Hisense AX5125, which is 5.1.2, but has gotten much better reviews than the Q85 and is still within my budget. We’ll see how that goes.

If soundbar isnt TURN ON/Power ON - do it. Than go to your IPHONE 3. On Iphone go to generals -> Airplay and Handoffa ->set airplay ON (everyone can use it) 4. Download TCL Home from appStore and ADD your soundbar to app. Now it can still show NO update avaible. 5. On iphone go to WIFI setting and connect to TCL Q85HE - airplay will automaticly set it and connect bar to your personal wifi. You can see notifi on sounbar display. 6. Navigate to TCL Home , click on sounbar and navigate to VERSION OF FW. After you press it pop up on you avaible update. I had 2 avaible updates. Hope it will help you because of it i was very nervous and i had to buy an brand new iphone for do this stupid update!! It time to bring IPHONE back to vendor :D NOW its time to test it. At the $500 price point the TCL Q85H is the best imo I've listened to both the Vizio Elevate and the TCL q85H and I think the TCL q85H is better

Hi everyone, I live in Italy and I also bought this soundbar. I updated the firmware as specified in the previous comments. Unfortunately the problem with the rear speakers remains. Unbelievable wind noise from the rear speakers. Also the volume of speech is sometimes low compared to everything else. Even with Atmos content. Do you have any news? So this soundbar is useless

hi, I updated as you said but unfortunately the rear speakers still have the problem of wind noise. have you solved it? it’s really unnerving and tcl doesn’t care. they advised me to redo the pairing of the speakers (absurd)

This soundbar is a shit. TCL after 4 updates failed to solve the wind problems. I can hardly watch a movie listening from this soundbar. Spend a little more and go to Samsung. I’m very disappointed with TCL
