The Nakamichi Shockwafe wireless 11.2.6 (2025).. it will fill that place up like a charm. I Was riding with Samsung for the past 2 years Q990D then Q990F and when I sent my Q990F subwoofer for repair they also asked me to send the soundbar to techeim in New Jersey. When I got the Soundbar and subwoofer back the Soundbar was Banged up and bent. Call Samsung and instead of getting a Refurbished soundbar or a Replacement they instead went with a refund. Decided I was done with them and Venture into Nakamichi.
Take a look at Shockwafe Wireless system's 31 high-performance drivers. I've had mine for a week and it's awesome. It's also on sale for $800 off bringing it down to 1700. You get a lot of performance for that 1700. It's the dragons little brother. https://www.nakamichi-usa.com/shockwafe-wireless
If you're looking for power and Great sound I just got SHOCKWAFE WIRELESS soundbar 11.2.6. the volume goes to 100 but I haven't been able to get it past 20. It has 2,300 Watts 31 speakers two of which are 10 inch subwoofers and they're on sale for 1700 usually they're 2400. It's the dragons little brother.
I have the dragon with 2 12 inch subwoofers in front and 2 8 inch subwoofers in the back in my basement and it sounds incredible. I have the Nakamichi shockwafe wireless 11.2.6 in my master bedroom and firmware update and it's the best bang for the buck sounds very good.
I think the Nakamichi shockwafe wireless 11.2.6 is on a different level to the previous Nakamichi shockwafe SSE eARC 9.2.4 and it's very similar to the Nakamichi Dragon 11.4.6 with 2 12 inch subwoofers in the front and 2 8 inch subwoofers in the back in my basement. The Nakamichi shockwafe wireless 11.2.6 is in my master bedroom and sounds incredible especially with the firmware update, I'm completely blown away. I'd give it 88 out of 100
It’s been about a week with the **Nakamichi Shockwafe Wireless 11.2.6**. Honestly, the first day felt a bit underwhelming sound wise but then I got a firmware update (came via mail the next day), and it completely transformed the experience. The soundstage now is just wild, that is in my high ceiling living room that’s not exactly acoustics friendly I think. Few months ago, someone recommended going with the Nakamichi shockwafe 9.2.4 wired version when I mentioned I was looking for a solid soundbar setup for high ceiling, then I waited for this one when I heard about a wireless one and snagged at the so called discounted price. I’ve also heard the full Sonos setup with the Era 300s and 990C at a friend’s place, and while that sounded great, the soundscape from the Nakamichi feels like something else entirely. Not sure why there’s not more hype around this product it really does hold its own, if not outperform in some ways. Still curious how the Samsung Q990D with just one sub compares to the Shockwafe. Like a lot of folks here, I tried to get the open box deal with the promo code, but that got cancelled. Thinking about grabbing it anyway just to do a comparison, especially with all the good things people are saying here and the price difference. Also any Dragon or previous Nakamichi owners have suggestions on fine tuning the settings for even better output? Would love to hear what’s worked for you.
I just got a JBL 1300x (MK1) and wasn’t impressed with it to be honest. The bar itself has no depth which means the crossover for the sub is high to address that; but I’m also picky with audio. I’ve noticed when the surrounds are plugged in to the bar, when playing music, no speakers on the bar produce sound, only the surrounds. Everything works when they’re unplugged of course. The bass is pretty dang good, just wish the EQ on the app would let you adjust stuff under 125hz, to help with that high crossover point. Honestly I don’t like the 1300x MK1 for music at ALL. Decent for movies however. If you’re paying ~1600 for the MK2, I’d check [this](https://store.nakamichi-usa.com/products/shockwafe-wireless-11-2-6) out. I’m returning my 1300x and picked up their Dragon setup. The dual 10” sub in the Shockwafe should provide more and better coverage for bass too.
I bought the dragon but sent it back in less than 2 weeks. The bass is just bad regardless of the dragon lovers and there was no height effects. I compared it to the Sony Quads and the atmos on them is second to none, where I got basically no height effects from the dragon. I’m currently running a 2.1 for my music timeouts as no bar sounds good or should I say compares to a good 2.1. I have since heard the Shockwafe and I personally think the new drivers and bigger dual 10” subs mesh better than the dragon with the dual 8” subs which bottom out way too early. I also paid over $4,000 and now the dragon fluctuates between between $2700-$3899 while the shockwafe has been as low as $2099. So I’m obviously not a Nakamichi hater which I got a lot of from the dragon fanboys. I’m thinking about trying it out in the family room as I really liked what I heard and keep my Quads in my med sized master bedroom. So, what did you eventually get and how do you like it??
I absolutely love them. I demoed a Nakamichi Dragon and a full Sonos Arc Ultra with era300s and 2 gen 4 subs and out of the 3 I kept the Quads but I did buy the Arc Ultra for the family room which requires 2 subs. Sony just made a new sub and like all soundbar subs it’s expensive at $899 and I preordered it and if it’s not a big improvement then back it goes. The sw5 is average and decent if you really tinker and due the sub crawl. If I had to pick a nakamichi, I’d definitely go with the newer Shockwafe 11.2.6 which was $1599 at one point. I’m just not a fan of their quality. Also, with upfiring speakers you really need close to the perfect room with a 10’ ceiling and walls almost like a square-rectangle and that’s my bedroom at 8’ ceilings and around 14’ by 14’. The problem is that I got mine when it went on a rare sale at $1999 and the sw5 at $499. Now it’s over 3k so it depends on your budget. I wouldn’t recommend it if it’s gonna be used in a large room.
I demoed the dragon about a year ago when it was still $4k and it was just a mess with the soundbar not capable of bass below 150hz which is laughable and those 2 8” subs had to pick up all the bass from there and it caused constant bottoming out and chuffing. It’s loud, but it needs the 12” subs desperately. Have you ever tried it in your home to really test it? The whole Nakamichi crowd was just furious with their constant noise from bottoming out and they complained about it and Nak made the 12” sub for $1300. It’s now at a much better price but those who bought 2 subs back then paid over $6k which is crazy and although the 12s are decent, they don’t come close to reaching Naks spec of 19hz. I think NET on YT measured 28hz before they rolled off a cliff. I would recommend the Shockwafe with 2 10” subs at $1800 over the dragon at $2600 with those dreadful 8” subs.
What guy said the soundstage was the weakest? I’m Comparing The new Shockwafe at $2277 vs the dragon at $3999, Obviously that’s with the 8” subs. Basically half price and never enough tech said Atmos is better, immersion is better and the subs are better on the Shockwafe! Maybe I’ll give it a try! I demoed the dragon and I liked things but disliked things more and overall to me it wasn’t worth it. Everyone is different and I’m sure the new subs are good, but only hitting 30hz for a $1500 sub is clearly not a good deal, it’s average at best. Many of the people touting these highly overpriced subs obviously have never heard real subs before, but if it makes you happy do it. I’m obviously not a Nakamichi hater or I wouldn’t consider demoing the new shockwafe, Watching NET say it’s better than the dragon with 8’s and basically half price, gave me a inkling to actually give it a try.
I’d agree with what @djsimmz said. I demoed the dragon and it was good, but I couldn’t get any overhead-spatial effects and the subs would die and bottom out and the noises it would make drove me insane. I myself have the Sony Quads and although their sub is also pretty bad, I still can’t believe how awesome its Atmos effects are. I also tried the arc ultra with era 300s and a gen 4 sub and I’d say that system does everything well. It was close but the Quads just wow me and I was sold. I would look at the Shockwafe with the 2 10” subs that is going for 2299-2499, as with the dragon and it’s chuffy 8” subs, I would need the 12” subs and I’m not paying 6 thousand for 2 12” subs that are not great. People, some of them say the 12”s are great and they are far from great, but this just shows how pitiful the 8”subs are. I would demo my Quads vs the new Shockwafe, but forget the dragon imo
Who? Scooby? He’s got buyers remorse and is taking it out on the world. Hey, if people like it that’s great, but I tried it and sent it back after 12 days. Those 8” subs were awful and I only got Atmos effects during the demos which sound good on most soundbars. The one thing that irks me is his and anyone else who says “It’s Not A Soundbar”.. I’m literally not a Nakamichi hater and after watching nets review of the Shockwafe at half the price and what he calls the best bass he’s heard yet on a soundbar system gave me pause to maybe give it a try. But I don’t like how nakamichi lied about several specs and there were tons of owners(total 603🤣) that were super pissed on Facebook, AV Forums and AVS too.
Nakamichi Shockwafe is no big deal. Tried it like I tried the dragon over a year ago and it just doesn’t seem right for 2 10” subs to have average bass and my Quads Atmos is leagues ahead. I guess it’s okay for the price but I’d rather pay more and be happy with the quality than save and be disappointed. My Arc Ultra era300s and 2 subs was expensive but it does everything so well. It’s your money, you should try several different brands til you find the one that you love. After all that the Ambeo max with a svs pb 2000 pro or 1000 pro. But obviously wait until prices plummet
I agree that soundbar’s struggle with music and that’s why I had to get a pair of klipsch nines and an RSL sub. Music is totally new again on this beast, while listening to music on my Quads or Arc Ultra which does very well with movies, is just noise. If people have never heard music before on a 2.1, they might love music on their soundbars, but once you have, it’s in a different class.
Nakamichi is so overrated it’s not even funny. Can it get loud? Yes Did Nakamichi totally lie about many specs? Absolutely Is it worth $4k for all those poor souls who had to add another $1200-2000 for 1 or 2 of the new subs Nakamichi made due to the outcry from fans who were totally unaware of how bad the supposed 4 subs (actually 2) were? Big time. I would never give a company that blatantly lied many times a nickel, but if you’re set on Nakamichi’s options, save yourself money and get the Shockwafe which equals or betters the dragon and is usually $600-$800 cheaper
It’s not better than the Sony Quads (IMO) and you absolutely need the 12” sub as those 2 8” subs are laughable. The price is lower and I’d still recommend the Quads or the newer Shockwafe as I demoed the dragon when it was $4k and it was loud, brash, with subs that had to pick up all the bass as the bar literally dropped off at 160hz and thus the subs would constantly bottom out. It depends on how many different systems you’ve had before as a newbie would probably love it. But the Samsung is still the best option and even tho I’m tired of hearing about it, it’s the best value and sound combination.
Sony Quads with 2 of the new subs coming out any day. The Sa-sw9 sub I believe can be used with 2 subs, but not 100% sure. I have the quads and Sonos but I’ve never been a sw5 sub fan. The new sub is $899 so it’s expensive but I’ve never heard anything better and I demoed the Dragon and it’s Atmos was nonexistent, the bass would bottom out and this was when it was $4k. The Shockwafe is definitely a better choice than the dragon but I’m still not a big fan of their sound or quality.
Real nakamichi > nakamichi sold at Sears and Walmart.
My Shockwafe 11.2.6 just showed up! I personally don't trust most of the reviewers on YouTube, but there are 2 that I DO trust... Neverenoughtech, and Caleb at Digital Trends. I bought mine based on their reviews. This is replacing my Samsung Q990c, which I just couldn't love....my biggest bitch with it was the lack of bass, unless I really pushed the volume. I think the 990 bars are the most over-hyped pos of all the bars out there. BUT, I have high hopes for my Nakamichi...I'll give you my thoughts once I get it set up. https://preview.redd.it/oxh01jjikbyg1.jpeg?width=2304&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=456783fbc8f1a456d6620d1b2fe5330e567d7e0b
