I have two passive 150w 5-channel polk soundbars. First one is almost 20 years old. Second one is 10 years old. Both of them paired up with decent budget subwoofers and they're great for both movies and music

Passive soundbars with a decent AVR receiver are definately the way to go. Upstairs Polk soundbar is plugged into a merantz AVR. Basement Polk sounbar is plugged into a pioneer. Both sound great for music and movies. When I play Interstellar in DTS5.1 it's bloody LOUD. Only downside to passives is you have a chonky cable with 5 pairs of speaker wires tethered together which can be hard to hide depending on your setup

Basement (2005) one is Polk Surroundbar 50 - silver. Upstairs (2015) one is Polk Surroundbar 400 - black I'm pretty sure both are discontinued. A shame they're great
