I have a ten year old Yamaha ATS 1050 soundbar that I just upgraded to the Samsung HW-B750D. The Samsung has a separate Woofer, is ten years newer, and does sound a bit better but not by nearly as much as I thought it might. They are actually pretty comparable.
That said, settings do make a difference and not just in the soundbar. Enabling things like pass through on the Apple TV input helped so check your TV audio settings too.
If you can do without the Dolby Atmos, just get yourself a somewhat entry level Samsung,

Samsung do make some of the best soundbars around, 7 series is what I would be looking at and fits your budget.
Samsung hw b750ef or samsung hw q600f will be the best for u if u can get them under 20k and sure u will.Samsung hw b67ef is an excellent soundbar but as u said u dont want rears so these will be best for you.And i can tell you bass is excellent and it will not overpower mivies or music.Dialogue clarity is insane in these samsung models and u will get definitely get good immersive feel bec one is 5.1 and the Q model is 3.1.2.

I just recently bought this one and i have been loving it nothing to fancy but sounds great and the sub is pretty strong
