Saw your post a while ago. Was in BB and saw a 850d at open box. Picked it up as it was in excellent condition. Thank you! Great soundbar

the soundbar only needs power and an hdmi connection to the tv, the sub only needs power, and the two rears connect to one transmitter which needs power but connects to the bar wirelessly. you would not need to wire your entire living room

I just got 850D from best buy today.... the sub slaps hard and I LOVE it. The sound is 🔥 look no further. I got lucky on black friday with an excellent condition open box that never left the store for $503 out the door. I debated the 990 but 7 does the trick just fine in my open living room take that $500 haircut... Dolby Atmos is dooope

Ok Best Buy had a return and it hasn’t been opened and I got that for $500. It comes with the soundbar, subwoofer and two rear speakers so I’ll see how it goes.

I’m not a huge audio person so I may not be the best person to ask. But I like it a lot, the audio quality is much better than my lg c2 and it sounds like audio coming from different directions at times. For me it was a great purchase but I also don’t have much to compare it to.

Just got the Q850D today at Best Buy. Had ordered the Q800 as it was on sale and the 850 wasn't at the time but was out of stock. When we went to get it today, saw the 850 was now the same price as the 800! Since we also got a new Samsung Q TV to go with it we are enjoying the Q Symphony and yes, it does make a huge difference! I think the TV has 4 speakers, so it uses those 4 on top of the sound bar speakers (does that make it technically 11channel then?) to give more dynamics to the surround effect. Our TV is mounted on the wall and the wires are behind the wall, so we set it up at first by BT and then realized Q Symphony wont work in BT mode. Wifi mode was easy to set up (I have a galaxy s24 ultra and through the Samsung Smart Things app you can set up and control the sound bar much more in depth) Q Symphony works perfectly in WiFi mode. (Thank goodness I didn't have to thread another HDMI cable through the wall as the conduit is a tight fit with the cables there now!) Yes the rear speakers are wired but only to the receiver box so no wires front to back and the sub is also wireless and easy enough to hide. We just put the receiver under the sofa and the wires are also behind the sofa. The sound is amazing in Q Symphony mode! I fully set the system including balancing the speaker levels for our room setup. You can do this either through your Samsung TV or the Smart Things app.

we had a vizio 5.1 that switches from receiver to tv speaker at exactly 6pm every single day.after 4 years of usage it suddenly died on us. considering the samsung q850d.i tested it at best buy and it sounds cool.even thinking of the much bigger q990d.

This is the way is you’re trying to save money. I originally bought the q850d because it cost less than the q800d from BestBuy at the time and I was going to add the $70 open box 9500s…. Sadly I later found out the q850d is a BestBuy only special setup and can ONLY use the included wired rears…. So anyways - if you can get the q800d on sale, and the 9500s on open box from BestBuy - this is a killer setup for the price!

Bought the Q850D sound bar had issues with the volume Turing itself up and problems with Blu tooth disconnecting but switched it back to hdmi arc and reset everything a few times and it all works properly...WOW what a system it totally rocks !  Surround sound is solid and music is incredible..You would easily pay thousands for a surround sound system like this because I still own one and this rivals that system easy,  the bass is solid and spot on , can't believe the depth in the music I can hear everything ...don't miss out on this if you have never had surround with your big screen...you'll be shocked at how cheap it really was to get this quality !   Little hard to figure out some of the controls you need to turn on but once you get it , Sit back and enjoy !

We're enjoying ours. Got it for Black Friday to replace an Onkyo 5.1 receiver (from 2008). Have a Roku Ultra plugged directly into the bar then using ARC to get to the TV. For the rears it's just one power plug to the module and the R/L wired to the module. Sub is one power plug. Everything connected right away. So far watched The Hobbit trilogy, Cross (Prime), and The Madness (Netflix). What's bugging me is Prime Atmos doesn't come through - its labeled Dolby Digital Plus on the soundbar. Netflix Atmos works fine. Maybe Prime is labeled wrong - it still sounds phenomenal. Make sure to get the Samsung SmartThings app and connect your bar to it. There are extra settings and it makes it a lot easier to calibrate/customize. Looked at the 990b, however, I have other hobbies/interests and just could not justify it.

How big is the room? Small to midrange rooms I would go with a Samsung q850d. You can get those specifically at Best buy I ended up getting an open box for 400 bucks and it sounds great in my bedroom.

I just got the Samsung Q850D 7.1 channel and it's insane how amazing it sounds. Especially if paired with a newer Samsung TV. Samsung has been killing it in the HT awards for the past 3-4 years now. I got my setup for $599 on Black Friday.

Vizio M Series 5.1.2 and call it a day. Great freaking soundbar for the money. Heck, it rivals my Samsung Q850 which is normally a $1000 system.

They are right and wrong. Will it work better? Yes, but also no. Via HDMI Earc, that's the point it's so you can use any! The Samsung rep agreeing is probably just to make life easy, I've been a rep in store and agreed with other brands for the sake of peace and get them a sale. The pros of sticking to a brand will be highly outweighed by a quality upgrade of two bars. I think Samsung bars get a good rep due to price to what you get, I've always said Samsung bars are great but not usally at full cost, since usally they sell them cheaper WITH a TV. But that being said reviews are ALWAYS list price for example in the UK you'd never pay more than £999ish got a Q990D (right now all offers are £899!) LG is the same at full cost they're harder to recommend. Get the one YOU think sounds best.

The Samsung tv will help with center channel with the Q symphony I believe. Prob will not notice much if at all. Samsung as others had said is def a far better bang for your buck. I don’t consider myself an audio expect but I had what I thought was a nice lg 5.1.2 soundbar and the Samsung blows it away. Voice clarity is what shocked me the most. All ranges of sounds are more defined and crisp even when only steaming. 4k Blu-ray Discs up the level another few notches. There are a bunch of posts on this subreddit explaining how to save a bunch of money ordering some Samsung directly if you choose to go with that soundbar

Sonos will break the bank lol. Less than Devialet or Bang & Olufsen, but it's probably the most expensive non-luxury brand. Vizio is best entry level price, lots of great soundbars under $500 and under $300, Samsung is the best performance to price for full Dolby Atmos with surrounds and upward firing.

I found that Q-Symphony adds a nice touch of fill-in to the front soundstage. Not life changing, but definitely worth it.

I’ve had the sennheiser ambeo, Bose smart ultra, and the Samsung q800, in that order. First two were returned for connectivity issues with my newish Samsung tv. The q800 has been great (the ambeo probably had the best surround but only if it connected). Q symphony is amazing. With the first two bars, you could clearly tell the sound was coming from below the TV… q symphony fixes that completely. And the subwoofer is amazing.
