When it comes to soundbars I see a lot of people mention Samsung Q990F as the best all rounder. I have a Q900F that’s basically the same as Q990F except for the 2 rear speakers. I also use it with a PS5 Pro and an LG G5. I’ve had 0 compatibility issues. I have an Apple TV and a Switch 2 connected to the soundbar with video passthrough to the TV. The only thing you’d miss is some extra features like when both your TV and the soundbar are LG, it uses both their speakers, but I heard it’s more of a gimmick and not a game changer.
Get at least. 3.1 bar. I like the Samsung q600f for it's value. It's enough. It's good. It's a hell of a lot better than the tv speakers. Something like the q000f will blow you away without being too bulky. But it's double. Split the difference with the q800. I quite like the Samsung bars. Sony's good but expensive and piecemail. I don't really like their sub and bar combo ones. Some with sonos or bose. Nice but expensive and piecemail. TCL and Hisense have stuff but I've never heard it. But also haven't heard discussion about it. I like JBL. But their bars are just too bass heavy and the mids aren't great. Lg's not bad either. But Samsung is my choice
If not the q990f get the q900f. Same bar and sub, no rears. It's honestly a fairly big difference, though I quite like the q800f
Using the rears as fronts, vastly improves music quality. But if u only want a standalone, maybe look to sonos arc ultra, if thats too much the q900 would be great as well, even the q800.
The equivalent is the q900f(which isnt sold everywhere), ur soundbar is still better than the q750f... The hardware hasn't changed much since the "A" series.
Everyone’s room size is different and furniture placement is different he only thing you have to do is see where your speaker system sounds right at in the room before returning anything. I think Sonos and Samsung have good audio speaker sound to them. The Samsung q990 f or even the q900f (without the rear speakers and is a 7.1.2 channel with just 11 speakers in the soundbar) are nice playing Blu-ray/4k Blu-ray films is fantastic, ready player one and starship troopers really felt nice listening to while watching them. No soundbar or soundbar system is going to be perfect or sound like an AMC Theater but at least you get a little taste.
Samsung hw-Q900f. $999 cad. Will be more than enough for a townhouse.
The Samsung is a better bar. It’s 7.1.2. It’s going to have 7 front facing channels along with 2 up firing channels. The Sony has 5 front. IMO the rear speakers don’t add much to sound bars and can be an added mess as they will have wires that go to a wifi/bluetooth box. I guess I should also ask what kind of tv are you connecting it to?
they haven't. The Sub on the F is a downgrade for most people.
the Sub on the D is far better than the F check rtings
So have the Q900F set up. I like the opening scene of S5E1 of Stranger things. Bass is okay, need to mess with it more. I like it for what it is. Waiting for the Q990D to get here to test. One thing I don't like is lack of bass in music. May be a setting I need to tweak. I also like Smart Things. One other thing, any reason to update to available firmware 1013?
I am in the same environment...I have an open living room that wasn't really conducive to rear speakers. I could do it but it would mean running wires through some open areas...and having to cover with conduit. With a 6-year old and 9-year old in the house...that was a disaster waiting to happen...injury or damage:) Over Black Friday and Cyber Monday, I purchased a Samsung Q-800F. Admittedly, it exceeded my expectations and was superior to the older Polk Magnify Max it replaced (failed after a lightning strike sent EMP through the house). I liked it so much I decided to try a refurbished Q-900F (Q-990F w/o rear speakers). It sounds even better. I returned the Q-800F...but it still sounded great for general use. Both systems have good bass (the 900F better because it has two 8" active woofers vs. the 800F single 6.5" woofer and passive 8" radiator). Bass is nice and clean and doesn't overpower dialogue.
I actually got a 900F because of the sub:) You're right though, different reviews say different things. I believe the D is a single 8" ported sub correct? My 900F (same as 990F) has dual opposing 8" woofers. The cube is compact enough where I am actually able to place it on the bottom shelf of my console....I added some rubber feed on the bottom to prevent any vibration issues.
I've been impressed with my 900F...compared to a 800F. My living room wasn't the most conducive to rear speakers, unfortunately...especially wired (power) ones. I've had past systems with large 10" - 12" woofers and ported enclosures. Bass was loud, but usually not crisp/clean, and usually drowned out the center channel...especially dialogue. I found both the 800F and 900F to be a pleasant surprise. The compact enclosure is convenient but both (6.6" + radiator and 2 x 8", respectively) sounded good..and felt matched to the soundbar in terms of clarity and volume. the compact enclosure looks to be a bonus over the D series. I opted to keep the 900F, of course (noticeably better in all areas), but the 800F definitely sounded good.
I have a similar living room setup...open and vaulted ceiling. I went with a Samsung Q900F...however it comes with the subwoofer. However, the subwoofer is actually very compact...and...the bass sounds pretty clean...i.e. not muffled and boomy such that dialogue gets overpowered. My living room is not conducive to wired (power) rear speakers right now which is why I opted for the 900F instead of the 990F. However, in your price range, the next lower version, which I also tried and sounded very good is the Q800F (or 930F if you need rear speakers). I think you can find renewed in the $500 range. The predecessor, the Q800D, should also be in that price range now...even lower probably. Mine sounds great...the only downside is that the vaulted ceiling seems to negate ATMOS/DTSX upward-firing effects. If/when we move I definitely don't want a vaulted ceiling anymore. In addition to acoustics, the constructor stuck a light at 18 feet high! I don't have a ladder tall enough to change bulbs myself and am in the process of researching a ceiling fan to replace it, and a downrod to at least make it accessible:)
My wife complains if I turn the volume of our new/renewed Q900F above 10! Even when I watch by myself I have yet to hit 20 on the volume meter. It is loud...in a good way:) The Q900F is just over a week old. I had originally bought a new Q800F and was immediately impressed. I opted to return it for a renewed Q900F mainly because it was the same price (I lose warranty...but...item arrived in like new condition...fingers crossed). The Q900F is nice. I didn't get the 990F because I have an open living room and running cords to an outlet would've been awkward. Surround would also be limited to the sofa.
I assume you aren't in the US...those aren't US prices for sure:) Anyways, I was in the same predicament as you are. I opted for the Q900F (Q990F without satellite speakers). I've had satellite speakers in the past and they didn't wow me...kind like when there was the 3D TV fad:) I also have a family...the surround speakers would be great for anyone sitting on the couch...but don't help those in a recliner, love seat, or elsewhere. Granted, I'm sure surrounds have come a long way...maybe they do add a lot of effect. I believe the 990F require an outlet...I wasn't going to run long power cords to them. the JBL's are detachable...not sure how long the batteries last. I would probably end up getting lazy and not detaching/attaching them all the time:) Granted, if I had the money, I still wouldn't mind the option and would've got the 990F. I originally got a Q800F. It sounded quite good...to the point I decided to try a refurbished (though it arrived looking brand new) Q900F. It was bigger in every way...dimensions and sound. The 1300MK2 was also a consideration...but cost more. Because my TV only has (3) HDMI ports and I'm using (2) (eARC and input from a 5-HDMI port switch), the 1300MK2 is nice because it has (3) HDMI inputs. The Samsung only has (2). If you are going to use them I believe the JBL allows full passthrough including DV (I could be wrong...it may be the 1300X that doest that). I'm not sure about the Samsung. I'm sure bass is a consideration too. the Q800F was actually good, but the Q900F is better. I suspect the 1300 is even better still. However, the Samsung Q900/990F subwoofer is nice and compact...it actually fits in the bottom corner of my TV stand...It isn't a big rectangle block sitting off to the side like I/we have been used to. The two 8" drivers faced outward on the sides....unfortunately without grills though (I would've preferred protection). I assume the JBL uses a standard configuration with a port somewhere and the large driver on the bottom. Both are the top-end options in the soundbar segment.
Great soundbar. The differences between the C, D, and F, do not justify the difference in price (unless you need 4K @120hz ).
They’re the same bar, just with the 9550 surrounds includes with the 930F. I would highly recommend to save a bit more and wait for a sale for the 990F or 900F. They are a tier above in performance definitely.
