I mean, I have a Q990B and haven't heard a Q990F in person, but there are a couple of people here on reddit, who have tested both side by side as well, and definitely point out some trade-offs. So its not a full on upgrade for all people, for sure. That said, almost all of them prefer the Q990F as a whole package and, if anything, those few drawbacks aren't, in any case, something to avoid the Q990F because of, jumping onto a model that's not even sold new anymore.
I've been extremely happy with my Q990B, but it rumbles hard and I love it for that. Nothing like your whole kitchen at the other end of the room vibrating at midnight in an apartment building during an intense movie scene. Unironically, I love it. The new Q990F has a dual-cancelling sub that's a lot purer but has virtually no physical rumble, as far as I know. I wouldn't upgrade to it myself for this exact reason, but if it's anything like the Q990B in all other aspects + a non-rumbling bass that you'd prefer, I'd go for that if I were you. It was 600 euros here on Black Friday, dirt cheap for what it offers.
Cause they've been going for 600 euro and could replace a thousands of euros worth of a sound system from a few years back. When one of those is on sale, there are no other options at this price point. They're dirt cheap for what they offer. Sure, I just ordered a standalone HW-S60D for 200 euro for my bedroom, but I don't care how good it is, I needed something compact with no sub and satellites. Should someone talk about it? Is it special somehow? No. The Q990s are.
The rear speakers are barely audible on the Q990a, b, c, d and f. and on my Sony A7000 and its speakers with volume included are wonderful!!!

Samsung q990b , it’s awesome with zero issues
Samsung q990 series b and above has a special mode for clear voice in case you want it , don’t need it most of the time but in case you need it it’s there
Samsung Q990b I got from FB marketplace a couple years ago. I am beyond happy with it. 10/10.
Q990b, and Q990f. I think tuning them to your needs is important. They sound amazing playing music in my setup.
I noticed this on the 990B music didn’t sound good unless it was atmos. Your observation is spot on.
Just chiming in. I have the Samsung 990B and vaulted ceilings. I have vaulted ceilings too. Unfortunately, for the height effect you need flat ceilings and I think relatively normal height. However, I think with any atmos set up you’re going to have an issue because of the vaulted ceilings. Maybe you could hang two reflective surfaces above the speakers if the effect matters that much to you. I don’t think this fact should impact your purchasing decision because the issue is simply the shape of your room. I will say, I may be missing something, but I don’t notice what I’m missing because of my vaulted ceilings and I think atmos still sounds very good in the room with the 990B.
