TL;DR: Exceptionally loud, immersive sound, great value, but weak for music.

The Q995 is the Nordic version and doesn’t have any built in voice assistants (Google or Alexa) ie, you can’t control the soundbar by speaking to it. You can still connect it to your smart home controller, I have mine in Apple Home.

I have a Samsung Q995D paired with my new Philips 77OLED810, used it with my LG 55” C9 before that. One of the best investment for immersive sound experience and listening to Dolby Atmos music is really good. I highly recommend, specially if you can get for €800-900.

From the reviews I have seen, Q Symphony is a mixed bag, some say it’s good, others not so. My understanding is that you can play sound from both the TV speakers and soundbar at the same time, I could do this with my LG C9 and Q995D but it didn’t make it sound any better.

Had an OLED for 5 years with a cheap LG 3.0.2 soundbar and recently got the Samsung Q990D, a world of a difference. I don’t believe I handicapped myself with poor sound for 5 years. And Dolby Atmos music is amazing, listening to music go around you is a game changer. I don’t game, but I can imagine playing games with Atmos would be great too. Get the biggest OLED you can afford and soundbar with rear surrounds. If you can’t afford both, get the TV and save for a good soundbar as soon as possible.

Depends on budget. Better clearly exists but Q99d has been $400-1100 in this sub recently which is really good value vs. competitors. Not sure if you were just comparing the soundbar without sub and back speakers. IDK if you can even buy it that way or the cost to compare it vs. bravia bar 8 or anything else similar. On the other end once you hit a certain price point wiring an actual system surpasses the value prospect of soundbar/wireless but if you do want a soundbar or wireless soundbar surround setup with no budget consideration you wouldn't go with Q990D.

For my main TV watching space Q990D or wired system if I have \~$2k+ budget. For a TV in a living space used for stuff other than watching I haven't found Sonos deserves all the hate and might do an arc ultra with a sub and then have 2 era 100s for other rooms that I can pull into a surround sound group when needed.

I don't understand, you bought the best soundbar in that price range and returned. Jbl will not be as good. You should have stuck with 990d and if you really hate the music on it so much, then get something dedicated for music. I am sorry, but I have been reading for a while and 990d/f are the top in that price range

Agreed. I just got a 990d and I’m happy with it. Similar situation to OP but in a larger space. Living room is 15’x28’ (listening area is mostly 15’x18’ given the configuration of the furniture in the room) and open to another area as well (kitchen and dining area). I’ve heard better sound systems but I’m quite impressed with this one. It’s stupid easy to set up.. basically plug and play. The sound surprisingly fills the area quite well.

I got a Samsung q990d for my lg. I don’t regret it. Best soundbar I’ve ever had.

I have the Samsung q990d and it’s a great soundbar. I’d recommend it if he wants to go the soundbar route.

I’ve had Sony, lg, and Vizio and recently got a q990d and it blows my other soundbars out of the water. There are definitely better surround sound options out there. But as far as soundbars go it seems it’s either Sonos or Samsung that most people champion. And most reviewers agree.

I’d say Samsung q990f. I have the q990d and love it.

Q990d is one of the better soundbars I’ve heard. That is why purchased it.
