I'm still curious how much better a Q990F is over a Q800B + 9500S. Some people say and tell me it's barely any better. Not a night and day difference compared to when I had a Q600A with no rears and moved to the Q800B then later the 9500S was a night and day difference. So yeah some say it's insanely better and others say for my setup it won't be a big difference just some little upgrades. I don't need it, but I'm so curious and $967 on Woot has me like ahhh! Lol
My soundbar adventure started with a crappy $70 Samsung model I can't even remember, it was 2.1, then I went to the Q600A(3.1.2) and it was great or so I thought. Then I moved to the Q800B(5.1.2) and it was literally night and day, it almost sounded like true surround sound all from the front, it was at least a very wide sound for sure and I was amazed. Then I added the 9500S rears later on which made it 7.1.4 and yet again I was amazed because I never had true rears and it was awesome for a good while and honestly it is still great and friends and family were amazed when they would visit. But now the Q990F(11.1.4).... It's not exactly worlds beyond different but yet it kind of is at the same time. There is so much more dimension to the sound and the clarity is insane even with Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus content compared to the other soundbars. The overall surround field is also much wider then the Q800B+9500s, I can hear birds in the dining room for example when watching let's say Avatar. The Q800B with rears sounded good on the couch but the second I got up and walked forward, then the rears would just disappear, but now I can hear the Q990F rears even if I sit on the floor at the coffee table or standing closer to the TV. So honestly the Q600A which sounded so good at first is honestly disappointing compared to the Q990F for sure and it's quite a step down from the Q800B as well. You have to experience it to understand. You look back and think "I thought it couldn't get much better than that? Wow, how is this possible?" If you got the Q990 Series someday you would think your Q6CC(3.1) is trash compared to it, I can guarantee it, especially since it's a small step down from the Q600. The funny thing is that I have been to other people's house who have an AV receiver setup with big speakers and it doesn't even sound very good at all. But I feel they don't know what they're doing either and probably have everything just playing as Basic Stereo. So having the Q990F, also properly setup is unlike anything I've heard in a home before.
If you get a Samsung 600,700 or 800 series you can add the rear speakers on at a later date for a couple of hundred bucks and then you have 80% the effect of the 900 series for 1/3 the price
I started buying Sonos speakers in 2014. Before then, I had a Samsung HW-E450 sound bar with subwoofer that I like a lot (still use it), so when I bought a new Samsung TV last year, I bought another Samsung sound bar & subwoofer (HW-Q600F), which cost half what a Sonos package would have cost. I might buy the Sonos products some day, but the Samsung gear has performed flawlessly, for considerably less money.
th Samsung and LG 2.1s would sound the same. Pero kung makakadaan ka ng Ansons or Abenson, iba talaga pag may upfiring speakers. Kung kaya mo extend budget yung q600f ni Samsung could be a good choice @13k.
Via Soundbar but I just checked neither support VRR passthrough so I'll have to connect via TV (Tcl q6c) as I guess video latency is more important than audio latency for regular gaming (not competitve), the Soundbar which support VRR are Sony Bar 8 and 9 both not in my budget also I need a simple front speaker setup as I dont have space for rear speakers, so I think I'll go with JBL SB-580 though will loose the upward firing speaker of the Sony Theater Bar 6.
Finally decided on Samsung Q600F, price is good for an upfiring sounbar with Dolby Atmos and decent reviews so far, will connect via TV (TCL Q6C) and will activate Game Master which should hopefully help with latency in gaming.
This. OP, like you, I recently wanted to upgrade my soundbars. I tried the Sonos Beam Gen 2 and Sub Mini combo that everyone raves about (also caught it on sale a couple months back). The software and app is really lacking in quality and connectivity. The app took a while to recognize my sub and sometimes take way too long to reconnect if I unplugged it. and you’d have to be on 2.4G WiFi as 5G would conflict with it. I just don’t like absolutely being reliant on an app and WiFi for stuff like this to work. I ended up finding a Bose 600 smart soundbar that is the older version of the current Bose Smart which is a tie below the ultra, and adding a bass module 500. While Bose also needs an app to connect the soundbar and woofer to customize your settings, you can still hardwire the soundbar and bass to the tv. I like having this level of assurance in case the app decides to shit the bed. The Samsung might be the best bang for the buck as it comes with everything included. Tried a q600f for a couple weeks but found the bass completely lacking. The 990 should be better.
It’s actually a great soundbar, especially paired with the Sub Mini. I did find it a bit overrated after hearing all the praise for this combo. But, the clarity is amazing and the bass is really refined. For me, I wasn’t a fan of the app and needing it being reliant on WiFi for setup. Also, you have to be connected on a 2.4 GHz WiFi and not 5 because it’s reserved other things. I’ve never heard of a soundbar needing a specific range like that. Also, when I was moving my sub mini around, the app would take like 20 min to reconnect back to the app. I’ve also heard of horror stories in the past regarding software updates, which I’m sure aren’t as much of an issue now. But for how much money Sonos costs, it’s not worth the potential headaches for me. I’m more old school so I ended up returning and getting a Samsung Q600f. While not as great as the Beam and Sub mini combo, it was half the price, I didn’t have to buy a woofer separately, still sounds killer and it connects seamlessly with no wifi and app setup. I prefer simplicity. Maybe one day, I’ll give Sonos another go
The Q600F is a decent option, but if you spring for a few more dollars, the Q700F would be much better value, it adds upward-firing Atmos speakers and Wi-Fi so you can stream music via AirPlay. I think both the soundbars have Voice enhancement setting, to elevate dialogue bit more from background music.
After spending what feels like an ungodly number of hours researching and buying/testing/returning soundbars, I wanted to share my experience for anyone in a similar situation in the future. I've been using a 2.1 Polk Command Bar for last 5 years, and unfortunately the subwoofer has started crackling. Very mild crackling, but I figure I take advantage of Christmas pricing now before the problem worsens. As a budget bar, I've been very happy with it. Bass is deep, vocals are decent, obviously nothing extraordinary but surely beats any TV speakers, and friends/family are generally impressed with sound/bass quality. Rocking a Hisense U88H I believe. First, the highly rated Samsung Q600F for $400 CAD on sale. A very popular pick with what seemed like raving reviews all over. With so many excellent reviews and a fairly hefty MSRP, it was a huge disappointment. It's been touted as great bass, vocals, and amazing immersive sound. My opinion: sorely lacks any meaningful deep bass unless the volume is turned up high, sounds seemed muffled, and tones/voices just seemed strange with the 3.1.2 set up. At regular volume, it sounded like there was no subwoofer. Maybe if there's a big explosion or something, but otherwise I may as well be playing off my TV speakers. I tried adjusting sound mode, EQ, subwoofer levels, everything. For a 2025 $700 (CAD) system, I was expecting way more than my existing system. Strongly preferred my Polk bar instead. Returned and looked for other options. Can't say I understand all the great reviews, maybe I'm deaf or dumb, but that's my experience. Next option, Yamaha SRB40A for $370 CAD on sale. Tested this in store and the bass was significantly stronger than the Samsung. Tones sounded muffled in store but I thought maybe it's just the acoustics, or I could change the profile at home. Brought it home and really the same thing. Tried adjusting sound profiles/bass all night and felt the same disappointment as I did for the Samsung. If you like "punchy" bass, this one certainly did well. Bass was strong and shook the house, but the bass was far from deep, and audio sounded muffled overall. My wife even pointed out how muffled/muddy the audio sounded, and she is totally happy with crappy TV speakers. Quick return and back to my Polk bar. If you like bass and want your house to shake without worrying about tone, this one is good. Voices out of the subwoofer just sounded... Off. I feel like the bass was too strong with the vocals? I wish I could word it more accurately but it just did not sound good. Lastly strangely enough, the volume switch increases or decreases by a factor of 2 each time. Was the only soundbar that did this. Next option, tested out the LG S60TR in store as another potential candidate for $350 CAD on sale with the help of an actual LG representative on site. The sound profile was a bit muddy similar to the previous 2. I pointed it out and he agreed. I mentioned I really didn't want any to take a chance bringing this home and testing out with another potential return, and he agreed that I'd need to shop for a Sony or JBL for some true deep bass, or I needed to up my budget. He mentioned he's not an audiophile or anything, but he likes deep bass and clear tones as well, and he's rocking a Sony at home So here comes the Sony Bravia Theatre bar 6 (HT-B600) which is a 3.1.2 system, not to be confused with the 5.1 system. Unfortunately it is the most expensive out of the group at $450 CAD on sale, but the sound is significantly better than anything I tested. Hits decent deep bass, shakes the floor, vocals are clear, and tones are natural sounding without any muffled sounds. I would say it is definitely an upgrade over my 5 year old Polk Command Bar, which was what I was looking for in the first place. A significant upgrade? Sort of, I guess? I say this because I really didn't expect to spend this much, but it seems the options are lacking. I haven't done extensive testing with the whole 3.1.2 thing, but I'd take this 3.1.2 over Samsung's 3.1.2. Voices come out super clear and it's consistent. With the Samsung and Yamahas voice mode, the voices were just strange sounding or inconsistent. So far, the Sony takes the cake there. I do wish it had a LED screen, but it is a nice looking bar, and really the sound is the most important thing at the end of the day. So far my main gripe is I guess there are no preset sound profiles or much of an EQ (you can adjust bass level, though), but the sound out of the box sounds really good as it is so far. I think the only thing I'll say is the Polk subwoofer still hit some deeper bass tones? Will continue testing and may update if I find anything, but this looks like the end of my testing. I wanted to test out the JBL bar 500 with subwoofer or something or the JBL deep bass, but I didn't get a chance, and my head has already been spinning with this experience. Disclaimer: I'm not some expert audiophile, but I do enjoy tech and I enjoy deep bass. I don't mind TV speakers but I do enjoy a nice set up for my home, especially for movies. For reference, I'm happy with my Logitech z623 or whatever it is for my PC. I bought the upgraded trim for my car for better speakers. I have the JBL partybox and the Tribit stormbox blast, and they're both fantastic for their use cases. Maybe I'm tone deaf, maybe I'm being snobby, who knows, but this was my experience and I hope it'll help someone avoid the headache I went through over the last couple weeks. TLDR if you're cross shopping these soundbars for around $350 CAD or so, and you're somewhat picky about sound accuracy and bass quality, save yourself the headache and get the Sony.
