I played with several locations for my 10 inch, down firing sub with my Vizio SB46514-F6. Behind my sofa has produced the best results. Our sofa is about 14 inches from the back wall where the sub goes with the port facing to one side. BTW, this was Vizio's top of the line unit in 2020 as it is 5.1.4. Still sounds amazing. Naturally, we feel the bass through the sofa (pleasantly) and yet you would swear the sound is coming from the TV to coincide with the action being presented. The bass also coordinates well with the rear speakers that have both front facing and height channels. Overall, this location is providing the most immersive sound that we have found, and at normal volume levels. Suggest folks give it a try.

Same boat as you with the bass and wife approval factor lol - yea I’m looking to upgrade from the Vizio for the same reasons regarding lack of eARC/hdmi 2.1 - I actually liked the sound of the Vizio, but the issues of having to go through a splitter to get high fidelity audio to the soundbar while getting all the HDR goodness to the TV is just a hassle and finicky.. really appreciate your input 👍 will be ordering as soon as it drops on sale again 🙃

Congrats OP! I did this early last year. I went from a basic ass Bose sounds to a Vizio 5.1 with atmos. Had to get a sound isolation pad under my subwoofer because I’m in an apartment building

How does the Vizio 5.1 use Dolby Atmos and not have upfiring speakers? I’m asking because I’m mounting it to the ceiling (golf simulator build and have to put it above a net so I don’t destroy it) so I specifically bought that one because it doesn’t have the upfiring speakers but still has atmos

Vizio's sound bars are surprisingly great. I have an old 5.1 system. The only issue I've encountered is one where it shuts off randomly, but maybe the new systems like that one don't have that problem.

3.1.2 is the soundbar with 3 integrated speakers (Left, Center, Right), 1 subwoofer, and 2 upfiring speakers integrated into the soundbar that bounces sound off your ceiling. It will not give you real surround sound compared to a 5.1 or 5.1.2 atmos system. I would go with Vizio if you want surround sound (Left, Center, Right, Rear Left, Rear Right, Subwoofer). Vizio also has Atmos-Surround solutions with their Elevate series.
