"The Vizio SV510X-0806 is the best soundbar under $200 imo."

"for $170 I couldn't pass."

"I was sitting there wondering why this thing was getting as loud as it was for as cheap as it was. ... At that moment I felt satisfied with that purchase. Some thing of which I never felt with the Sony or Samsung because of their price point."

"Loud, great bass, clear dialogue, nice surrounds."

"great bass ... I'm amazed how they were able to get so much bass from the small tiny sub."

"i kinda like the small size and good build quality. ... smaller is a good thing in many ways. ... i've been returning a few so lugging around giant soundbars is no fun, the vizio is a breath of fresh air in that regard."

"The system is also very small. ... You can probably carry the whole 5.1 system in your hands. ... Got tired of carrying around my old 5.1 system with a receiver. Every piece was heavy."

"the phone app in lieu of remote is kinda genius once you see it. ... it's so nice not having another remote cluttering everything up. ... but you have the app for when you want to dig into detailed settings. ... but it only works because the app works well."

"I also like that it doesn't have a remote. ... My old remote on my old soundbar, the screen on it died and it was a pain to change settings. Having 2 remotes was also a hassle to keep track of. ... These new Vizio soundbars only have an app to change settings. The app is nice and works great. Very customizable."

"The app works really well with it."

"I don’t get 5.1 LPCM over eARC. ... I get a simulated 5.1 that appears to be 5.1 but for example in the switch test the bass doesn’t activate and rear speakers get activated when they shouldn’t and the rear left and right are the same, and that’s the symptoms I’ve heard from pretty much anyone who has extensively tested it, even on PC. ... In other words the surround is messed up."

"The LPCM 5.1 trough eARC doesn't work with a Vizio TV. It doesn't work with the Switch or the PC"

"it can only do 2.0 over LPCM ... so Nintendo switch is stereo only and other game consoles would need to be set to DD/DTS."

"No, do not buy this. It does NOT have HDMI or optical support via a port on the sound bar. ... Again, read the review "no support for HDMI or Optical". That's really poor feature set. You need at least optical. I wouldn't buy anything without HDMI port ON THE SOUNDBAR."

"another bug is the volume is quiet on live tv, like i need to turn to like 80 volume out of 100 to get loud at all. whereas in other content it's getting loud at like i dunno, 30 or 40. like you'd expect."

"It's does get a bit loud and quiet."

I’ve had this soundbar for a few months now and it works really well for me. The only thing I liked with my older Vizio soundbar is that it had an actual remote so at night time I could just click on the remote night mode so that way it would make bass and subwoofer quieter so it doesn’t bother my neighbors at night time. As nice as the remote app is. It’s kind of annoying having to open the app then tap setting then tap effects then go to night mode and tap enable. I would prefer having a physical remote instead of having to use the app.

No, do not buy this. It does NOT have HDMI or optical support via a port on the sound bar. Look at this https://www.ebay.com/itm/134194139970?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=kXjA-iwkSKe&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=thj-PRP7Tz-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

I have it and it does 5.1 with Nintendo Switch, for anyone wondering. It sounds pretty good for the price. I also have the ONN 5.1.2 for the same price I think is even a better option

For any wondering it actually does 5.1 in Nintendo Switch with eARC, I just tested, so probably a mistake from RTINGS it does 5.1 LPCM

Yes, in the Switch menu, 6 different channels with the subwoofer, in Automatic and Surround modes. Also, in games, it's pretty noticeable. The soundbar firmware I have is 1.600.00.2, and my TV is a TCL C655, eARC compatible. It works the same as with the Vizio M51a-h6 I had before

I think you're confused about your soundbar model. This post is about the SV510X-0806, the same as in the RTINGS link, and this model doesn't have HDMI-IN. However, I can guarantee that it does proper 5.1, not simulated surround sound for stereo content, with the Switch via eARC.

The Vizio SV510X-0806 is the best soundbar under $200 imo. It's a 5.1 with dolby atmos. [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CRSS5CBC/](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CRSS5CBC/)

I picked up the Vizio SV510M-0806 Monday because I want to dabble on surround sound after 10+ years on my old Vizio 38" 2.1. So far, enjoying it. It's not great. I didn't expect a $160 set to be amazing, but since it has a center channel my wife can hear dialogue more clearly. The actual surround effects go from cool to annoying. Or depends on the source. Is say you get what you pay for. I'm not swimming in cash so the $160 was a hard to beat price. It's fun. It does sound better than my old one. A lot better. :) Listen to the answer folks here, and read up on some reviews on places like rtings.com

It's still ok. Real 5.1 is dope! I will suggest turning on truvolume to help even out the sound during normal TV watching. It's does get a bit loud and quiet. Turning that on was the final step in making it work for us. I'm not sure if it's more accurate, but it's just better for us Still enjoying it! I'm pretty happy to get it for as cheap as I did. The best part for me is now my wife "gets" surround sound! So I'm a few new years when I want to build out a system, it's much more likely to get the wife approval factor! It's a great cheap system. I know you can spend serious coin on sound systems. This has made our home movie watching experience much more fun. Even my tween thinks it's cool! Is day this is fine if the better starter bars/systems around. Just remember, I'm a moron with a keyboard :). So my opinion only had the weight of what you put into it. I chose this after resting rtings and listening to Caleb Dennision on the digital trends YouTube channel.

I'll say this as a Vizio 5.1 owner, it's alright. It's very light, plastic and simple. Plug into your earc connection, that's the only choice you have. There's no remote (which I'm ok with, tired of too many remotes). The app sucks. It's slow to connect and move around. The sound quality is cool. I'm not an audiophile. I don't have the ears for that anymore. But my 4k blu rays of Dune Part 2, Deadpool and Wolverine, and LOTR all were pretty fun. The tiny sub put out more bass than I expected. The sound is very localized, you know which speaker is making noises. I came from a 10+ year old Vizio sound bar, but the price for this one ($160 black Friday) was very tempting. This will be the last Vizio product I buy. I'm saving up for a standalone 5.1 later. But for right now, it's fun. I don't expect it to last ten years, like my last one did. Don't expect to be amazed, just enjoy the boom and rumble lol

https://www.rtings.com/soundbar/reviews/vizio/sv510x-0806 Rtings review is out.  In short it’s mediocre, and it can only do 2.0 over LPCM and has no HDMI inputs at all, so Nintendo switch is stereo only and other game consoles would need to be set to DD/DTS. As a result I wouldn’t recommend it, the older m51 series is better in every way, and there are bars at this price range that will properly do 5.1 LPCM.

EDIT: Woops I thought you were talking about the older higher-end m51-ax51.  But does it still work properly? Have you actually tested that it’s the proper channels?  In the Nintendo switch settings when you do sound test do you for sure hear 6 distinct sounds each from its own individual speaker? Also what TV and what firmware are you on? For me I don’t get 5.1 LPCM over eARC. Usually with an LG C series OLED.  In other words the surround is messed up. I have to use HDMI-IN for LPCM, from any source(PS5, switch, PC), to get proper surround.

I'm definitely happy with it. No glitches or issues. It's paired with an LG TV so that may help. Movies and streaming shows sound amazing. TV sports are mostly great, sometimes announcer voices are a bit tinny though. And there's no real Atmos height, but I wasn't expecting that.

I got this system last week and could not and still can’t connect my phone or iPad to the app. I bought a remote asap. Only problem is I can’t see the levels anywhere. So, when you’re using the app for the bass level, how many levels are there? I saw a photo somewhere that looked like the levels were only low, medium, and high. What about height level? Is it wide, auto, …? Or am I really raising the volume level for that setting?

Cost is the main reason they did that. There are trade-offs when it comes to tweeters + woofers versus full range drivers. Usually there’s less definition in the high frequency range (treble) but if it’s a decent system, you can usually compensate by increasing the treble and lowering the bass levels a little bit. From what I’ve read, there’s also a benefit in terms of harmonic resonance, since you don’t have to tune two speakers to act as one, so there’s less distortion. Vizio is usually pretty good with their implementation of full range drivers though. RTNGS.com named Vizio’s new 5.1 system (SV510M-0806) their top pick under $200, and that doesn’t use any tweeters either. I bought it based on that review for my office and am super satisfied. It sounds great, way better than it should for the price. It’s been awesome for gaming. RTNGS.com just recently bought the SL512X actually so they should have a review in a few weeks if you’re not in a rush. Worst case, if you buy it and don’t like it, return it, but based on Vizio’s history with sound bars and people’s reviews, my money’s on you’re going to love it.

i just returned the SV510M-0806 it was on sale for 179 so i impulse bought as i have been without soundbar since vizio sb3651 died - volume level is 30+, when 3651 only need to go 15 very loud - smaller soundbar, satellites, even sub is small - so the sound is small, not as good - and no remote, need to use an app, hard no - alexa voice does not come out, tried everything

Got a Vizio 5.1 sound bar setup hooked up via HDMI arc Latency isn't bad, it's like on average like 85ms (more or less depending on the system and game). I only had to get it to 300ms on Fortnite Festival but that's just standard for some ungodly reason.

Vizio's sound bars are surprisingly great. I have an old 5.1 system. The only issue I've encountered is one where it shuts off randomly, but maybe the new systems like that one don't have that problem.

3.1.2 is the soundbar with 3 integrated speakers (Left, Center, Right), 1 subwoofer, and 2 upfiring speakers integrated into the soundbar that bounces sound off your ceiling. It will not give you real surround sound compared to a 5.1 or 5.1.2 atmos system. I would go with Vizio if you want surround sound (Left, Center, Right, Rear Left, Rear Right, Subwoofer). Vizio also has Atmos-Surround solutions with their Elevate series.
