Hello. Yamaha fanboy here. If they make it and I'm looking it, I buy it. I have a Yamaha Soundbar with a separate subwoofer. Yamaha YAS-209 also has a separate subwoofer. And it's like $149. Can't go wrong. He'll love it.

I went with a Yamaha YAS-209BL Soundbar with wireless sub for my daughter recently for her first apartment. It offers easy set up, decent sound for the price and HDMI pass through which is great for her Apple TV, and wifi & bluetooth for her streaming. The price is about $170 currently on Amazaon [here](https://www.amazon.com/ATS-2090-Channel-Soundbar-Wireless-Subwoofer/dp/B07T5GGR8L?th=1) , sub included. Unlike many of tthe other commenters here have noted, not everyone has the space or can make use of speakers and a separate recveiver. She has to keep the sound down (cause neighbors) and does not have alot of room and wanted something super easy to use, so this works well for her. For these use cases, I can see lots of value in these easy soundabr set ups.

The Yamaha YAS-209 is incredible for the price. It even does a reasonable approximation of 5.1 surround in a smallish room. For music, instruments sound very real.

After spending months in same boat for a good replacement to my bedroom soundbar. I can say that depending on your room size, The Yamaha Yas209 is hard to beat at 160 or so on amazon. The Vizio V51a-H6 or M51 from costco are by far best you can get for your money if you can still get one on closeout. V51 is about 139 here and the M51a-h6 was 179 when i picked mine up last week. I kept the M51 from costco for its amazing clarity even at low volumes. It has a hdmi input and earc which matters to most for pass through. Features are more than most will need so if you like to tinker with sound there is plenty to adjust there. Also if you don't mind refurbished, The Samsung HW-S80CB on amazon was usually 700+ new last year for about 199 refurbished. Can add the 9500S rears later for 5.1.4 setup. My father ran this for a year till he switched out to the 900c. It is it lacks inputs so mini hdmi to regular and Bluetooth is about all you'll get, but for its size the output is very good for most size rooms. The room my father has his setup in was about 14-24 with sub behind him( he likes sub close to him from a old avr setup, not my first choice) That bar has no problems filling a room, but you really need the rears for full effect. Ive considered picking up another S80 of amazon simply because the price is so good, and it is good with the full setup. Its the costco version of the s800b and identical in feature set. If you stream most of your content, then all of these soundbars will provide good sound. If you are after good dialog all will deliver that, but the yamaha falling behind a bit as its a 2.1 and the rest are 3.1,2 and 5.1 setups with atmos/atmos psycho-acoustc properties. . If you want surround. then lean towards the two vizios or samsung(would need to add rears down the road179-229 avg for SWA-9500S). While you get what you pay for, you can also get a deal on a previous model year or refurbished model to get more for your money. Im using the vizio M51a-H currently and as the price of 199 or less depending on costco in your area, its hard to beat for the quality and volume of sound it puts out. I am a home and car audio technician and have spent the better part of two decades testing equipment from budget to high end. I go for what sounds best for less money in the end. But as hearing is subjective to the listener, hence why you get so many mixed opinions about whats good and whats not. Im fairly confident in my ears as my customers rarely complain on how their setup was tuned. Check the models, read some reviews, rtings has good breakdown of all these models, youtube has some great reviews as well. Try it out if you don't like it, don't settle till you find what sounds best to you. Thats what the return policy is for. Hope this helps.

Forgot to add I have heard the yamaha as my mother uses the Yas209 in their bedroom Still from switching to the Samsung. She uses it for ota antenna tv, and streaming services. Has clear dialog and great bass response for movies. It is a good soundbar for its size and price.

Good to know it's better now. I don't want to do the wiring stuff now as i have a new build so sound bar is the only option. Current one I have is Yamaha YAS 209, even though it is a 2.1, it sound really good. Actuall selling price in the UK including the standard BF discount is £1199. I bought an S93D TV which gave an additional £200 discount and used the trade-in offer(any speaker- working or non working will get you £350 instant discount. sending an old £30 pound soundbar i bought many years ago). Mine will take two weeks to come. I will post a review.

I had a Yamaha Yas 209 and thought it punched way above it's weight . Upgraded to a Q990c but the Yamaha was fantastic for the price and it's 3d effects are actually pretty good .

As I said the Yamaha always sounded great . However Installed the Q990c and even before I connected the rear speakers it gave a much fuller and more expansive sound. I have the sub turned down and I rarely have to increase the volume past 12 . Whereas the Yamaha at the same volume is over 60. I never knew about the DRC but was always happy with the sound out of the box .

I own a Yamaha Yas 209, and it’s perfect for a normal-sized bedroom. I highly recommend checking it out, especially because it doesn’t come with an excess of satellite speakers.

My Yamaha YAS-209 is a great midrange soundbar. It comes with a sub, too. Runs around $250. Spend the rest on Govy lights for your TV that change with what's on the screen. WORTH.
