I can’t imagine building something when I could purchase a solid one for $200. I’ve had mine for 5 years now - no issues with motor or anything. I guarantee if I built it I could not lean on it without it turning into firewood. Save yourself and purchase. This was the best thing I purchased going WFH. [Standing Desk](https://amzn.to/4pP1ZaB)

FlexiSpot is a great bet for a budget-friendly and reliable desk. They have a solid reputation and good customer service for parts if you ever need them. VIVO is another excellent choice, and they even let you buy spare parts directly from their website, which is a huge plus for long-term repairs.

Great question - I just spent weeks researching standing desks for this exact reason. After comparing 7 different models, stability at full height varies a lot by brand and price point. The VIVO Electric 60x30 and ErGear models both get consistently high marks for minimal wobble even when fully extended. The VIVO is around $270 and handles dual monitor setups really well. If you're on a tighter budget, the ErGear at $229 has programmable height presets which is huge for switching between sitting and standing throughout the day. I wrote up a detailed comparison with real user feedback on stability, pricing, and what to watch out for: [https://shop.zig.digital/blogs/news/best-standing-desks-2025-7-desks-tested-reviewed](https://shop.zig.digital/blogs/news/best-standing-desks-2025-7-desks-tested-reviewed) The key thing I learned is that dual-motor desks stay way more stable than single-motor ones, especially at maximum height. Worth the extra $50-100 if you're using it 8+ hours daily. What height range are you looking for? That can narrow down options pretty quickly.

I feel this post in my bones - literally. After 10 years of WFH and two elbow surgeries from ignoring ergonomics early on, I finally got serious about my setup. **On stability at full height:** This varies wildly by desk. The dual-motor systems stay way more stable than single-motor ones, especially at maximum extension. I just spent weeks comparing standing desks and the VIVO Electric and ErGear models both get consistently high marks for minimal wobble even when fully raised. The Flexispot models are solid too, though quality control seems inconsistent across their different lines. **Chair longevity:** For 8+ hour days, you really want something that won't compress within the first year. I found the GABRYLLY holds up well in the $200 range, but honestly if you can swing it, the Steelcase Leap you mentioned is worth every penny. My research showed most budget chairs ($130-175) need replacement within 1-3 years of heavy use. **Small changes that mattered most for me:** * Monitor arms (getting screens to proper eye level fixed my neck issues) * Anti-fatigue mat for standing (crucial - standing on hard floors kills your feet) * Cable management solutions (sounds minor but reduces so much mental clutter) I actually just finished detailed comparisons on both if anyone's still shopping: Standing desks: [shop.zig.digital/blogs/news/best-standing-desks-2025-7-desks-tested-reviewed](http://shop.zig.digital/blogs/news/best-standing-desks-2025-7-desks-tested-reviewed) Ergonomic chairs: [shop.zig.digital/blogs/news/best-ergonomic-office-chairs-2025-7-chairs-tested-reviewed](http://shop.zig.digital/blogs/news/best-ergonomic-office-chairs-2025-7-chairs-tested-reviewed) The key thing I learned: alternating positions every 45-60 minutes beats either sitting or standing all day. Your setup with the Steelcase + standing desk is basically the gold standard.

I have a Vivo and a Flexispot EN1. Both are solid choices.

One thing I wish I knew before buying: they leak oil down the legs.

Mine is Vivo. From their customer support when I reached out to them: “We have checked with our tech team on this and they have confirmed that we have seen these leak the excess oil even after a long amount of time. It could be that it takes a certain amount of stress for it to flush out the excess, however, if there were no changes in performance by the desk, then this should not be anything to cause concern.” Nothing to cause concern? What about when it drips onto the carpet and stains it? Typically, if there is a change in performance in addition to the oil leaking, that would be cause for concern.

I've had this one for almost 3 years and I LOVE it! It has 4 memory settings for different heights (I use 1 for sitting position and the other 3 for various standing heights - based on my shoe height for that day Lol). VIVO Electric 60 x 24 in Standing Desk, Memory Height Adjustment, 1B Series, One-Piece White Top, White Frame, DESK- KIT-1W6W I got it in Amazon: https://a.co/d/5D6iwNW

Steelcase is often the standard for office environments, they just don't die.  That said, they are crazy expensive. As a more budget friendly option that is still good quality, Consider the vivo brand ones on Amazon. It has worked great for me!
