Go for it. I think a super shoe for that race profile would be ideal, though with some technical stuff, you just need to be mindful. There are a number of good options, but find the one that works best for you. I hated the Tecton 3s, but some people love them. The first Adidas Terrex Speed Ultra did not work for me also. I used a prototype of the Ultrafly 2 and it worked out great for a non technical trail 50 miler. I would also would consider the Brooks Cascadia Elite. It's pricy though. The Prodigio Pros are a great non-plated shoe

Of course. Happy to help.  I got hooked up as a tester for the shoe way back. The 2 is a better shoe. The 1 was flat. I just picked up the Cascadia Elite but haven’t tried it yet. I think that could be a good shoe to try for you over the adidas.  Feedback so far from others is good. Try the prodigo pro too. It’s a great shoe. I also run in the Zegama, which is very cushioned. It’s a little over engineered and heavy, but I think it works well.  Honestly, pick one, go full send, and don’t overthink it. You can have a back up shoe to quiet the mind, but I don’t think you’ll need it.

Despite the very fun ride, I gave up on the Speed Ultra 1s after 3-4 runs due to the cheese grater effect on the medial side of my arch. I still have PTSD from them. 😄

Woah, how did I not hear about these? They look exactly like Terrex Speed Ultras but without the speed rods. I’m confused though, Adidas already put out the Evo SL ATR, wouldn’t this just compete directly with their Terrex lineup? And is the differentiator the upper? Because the Terrex series have awful uppers and laces, the midsole is the only saving grace. And are they going to be priced like the Evo SL? Edit: lot of people pointing out the differences between the SL ATR and these. I understand the differences, I was pointing out that Adidas already put out a shoe halfway between the Evo SL and Terrex Speed Ultra in the ATR, but the Evo Trail is somewhat confusing because there’s a very small degree of separation from the Terrex Speed, only difference I see is no speed rods, so it would naturally compete. There’s a far more clear distinction in use cases between the Evo Sl ATR and the Terrex Speed ultra

Interesting. The Terrex Speed Ultra 1s have been my trail racer of choice for the last 2 or so years, on my third pair. They’re flawed, namely the upper being an absolute cheese grater to my feet, but bar none they’re the fastest trail shoe I’ve run in on non-technical terrain. I’ve taken them up to 50 miles in a sitting. I don’t daily train in them though because it’s a pain to tape my feet and toes for any everyday run to avoid blisters and rubbing. If the Evo SL trail can retain 90% of the performance of the Speed Ultra with a better upper and laces I’m sold for my daily trail trainers. Will also be interesting to see if they use the new version of LSP from the Pro 4, or the old version used in the pro 3 and current evo SL. Other great thing with Adidas super shoes is they hit deep sales often. I’m excited for these.

Yes, they’ve given me terrible blisters on my ankle just below the ankle bone, and on my big and pinky toes during longer efforts. Only solution I’ve found is to tape or put a bandaid on the spots before I run in them. Not ideal to do every day, but they’re so agile compared to other trail shoes it’s worth it for races imo.

This is the obvious choice given it uses the same formulation of Lightstrike pro as the Evo SL as I understand it. OP, imo, the Terrex Speed Ultra is the fastest trail shoe out right now for smooth trails and is my weapon of choice for ultras. Like the Evo, the upper could still be better, but man it’s quick and fun.

I stopped using my altra lone peak 9s because of that extra strain on the achilles. For my shorter runs below 10km I still use them occasionally, the comfort is amazing. I never tried the mont blanc but if they’re zero drop I think they’ll end up affecting my achilles just as much.

I use the Terrex ASUs. Just make sure you replace that terrible stock insole that is so bad it litterally cuts through your arch. Speaking of arch if you have a somewhat low arch I would check elsewhere like the tecton x3. That’s what I should have done. Other than that yeah you can notice the extra running economy, more so when you push it. At lower speeds it’s obviously less noticeable. I really suggest you try them first because of the high arch.

For trail use i find my adidas terrex speed ultras still have speed in them after 700k. Kjerag 2 should also last long, but im not at high mileage yet. not high stack though, so a different sensation.

Tecton x2 is one of my favourite trail shoes. Not a soft ride and not the quickest I have used but does everything I want really well. Is hard wearing too. Personally I would say the tecton x3 is the quicker shoe. Much bouncier ride though does sacrifice some stability for it. Adidas speed ultra. You dont have issues rolling ankles? You will in these shoes. Fastest shoe ive tried on open fire trail but you hit the slightest bump wrong and it tries to murder you. Definitely not for heel strikers. Fit didn't agree with me either so gave them away. I will echo other that the prodigio pro might just be the best all round shoe I have used on the market. Not plated but holds speed just as well and handles technical terrain with ease. Sizing can be tricky with them though Have tried the metafuji trails on and the heel felt wildly squishy and unstable. Seeing them used on trails confirmed that for me. Everyone I have seen using them collapses in badly through the heel once they get off the forefoot
