"now I wear them everyday, for work, for fun, for hiking, and even in the gym."
"Unless I'm on snow and need mountaineering boots for crampons, I use LPs. They've taken me up Helens more than once, and all my other hikes for years."

"It's truly amazing how good they are at gripping scree, sand, and unstable terrain. ... My Altra Lone Peaks saved me from nearly sliding off a cliff on sandy terrain in Arizona, kept my footing bouldering up a mountain in Pennsylvania, and across a ridgeline of scree along Mount Hood in Oregon."
"great in mud or gravel though"
"On my ass would be lucky. I come home with bloody knees and wrists when I let the knobs on my LonePeaks wear down too far."

"Blister free throughout my entire walk."
"Never had a blister, no support issues and most of the time I forget to cinch the laces right at the trail head and I don't even notice. ... Incredibly comfortable, right out of the box."

"quick-drying shoes ... all the wetness will be wicked away ... When you get to camp, take out the insoles to dry the shoe."
"I really appreciated the Altra Lone Peak 4, 4.5, and 5 because they shedded the water with every step. ... Coupled with merino wool socks, on a warm day, I could wade across a river and within about 30 minutes have mostly dry feet."
"My Altra Lone Peaks take about 30 minutes of movement to dry off :) ... yep. means I don't have to chose between crossing barefoot (owie!) or bringing a second pair of shoes."

"I did a drying test on both pair last year and found both dry quickly IF you remove the insole when it gets wet or keep them dry and remove them before making a water crossing. ... In the field, I walked through creeks and got my feet totally wet (not on purpose) in November with nighttime lows in the upper 20s. Shoes dried by morning and the insoles were still damp, but dried as I hiked."

"I've got just under 600 miles on my LP6 and that's mostly mountain trail running (Blue Ridge Mountains) and many Spartan races. ... They lasted me over 2 years and at this point the soles have the most wear with the lugs mostly gone."

"For me it was the uppers and the heel on the 5s, a few months max before they disintegrated."
"I come home with bloody knees and wrists when I let the knobs on my LonePeaks wear down too far. ... Which is always."
"I bust both sides of my first, and last, pair of LP's at 100km. These were rocky tough trails but still.."

"First run i almost rolled one ankle then the other but saved it. ... Yesterday i went over quite hard on my right ankle."
"I found the 5s sloppy. ... They also felt kind of sloppy in the rear, and made me a little more prone to rolling my ankles. Never seriously, but more than other shoes."

"My Altra Lone Peak shoes have zero cushioning ... I can feel every pebble on the trails."
"LP definitely low cushion, those puppies feel like barefoot shoes after 400km in them"
"if your trip involves any kind of hiking that's not on pavement or gravel I'd consider actual hiking shoes. ... some of the rougher hikes...yeah my big toe nail on one foot and a nail on the other foot is still black underneath from wearing these on a hike. ... The trails I did were rough, muddy, and slippery which resulted in me hurting my feet when I slipped and jammed my foot into rocks. ... Which would not have been an issue if I were wearing actual hiking shoes that offer more protection for your feet."

Last pair of LP I bought were the 5s. Do the newer versions have more cushion? Looking at the 9s online and the mid sole seems thicker.
r/trailrunning • Anyone try the Altra Lone Peak 9? ->I bought a bunch of 5s and am on my last pair. Got the 9s and have run \~4 times with them. Stack height is still the same 25mm. The main difference is that the 9 soles feel really stiff to me, like cages on my feet; I kind of hate them. My ankle started to hurt during my last run in them. Lone Peak 5s are far from the nimblest shoe I have worn, but they feel really nimble/light compared to the 9s.
r/trailrunning • Anyone try the Altra Lone Peak 9? ->Love the LP5 🥲 In searching for more of them, I’ve come across quite a few LP6s online - supposedly very similar to the 5s (lighter, but upper is not as durable). Have you had a chance to try your 9+ yet? Even though I don’t like the 9s, I’m so curious about the 9+ vibram soles. Read some reviews that said it felt stiff initially, but loosened up/became more flexible after several wears. Really tempted to try them out and maybe take advantage of their grippiness for hiking even if they don’t work out for running.
r/trailrunning • Anyone try the Altra Lone Peak 9? ->I ended up finding some 5s to try. Agree that the toebox is wider than the 6s. Overall width and length fit my hobbit feet better. I might be imagining things, but wearing them around the house, my feet feel hotter in the 5s. Wish the 5s had gaiter attachments.
r/trailrunning • Has anyone here tried the Altra Olympus 6 or the hiking version? I'm looking for new shoes with little heel drop, for wide feet ->I’m still rocking an old pair of Altra Lone Peak 5 trail runners. I’ll probably have to replace them after this year but I wear them whenever there isn’t snow on the ground.
r/hiking • what summer hiking shoes do you wear? ->I love Altra Lone Peaks. I have Lone Peak 5 trail runners for hiking in warm weather and Lone Peak ALL-WTHR Mid 2 hiking boots for hiking in the snow since they’re waterproof. The trail runners fit perfectly right from the start. I got heel/achilles blisters the first few times I wore the boots but they’re broken in now and feel great. The tread on the trail runners is finally starting to wear down so I’ll probably have to get new ones next year, but I got them on clearance in early 2022 so I’d say they were a good investment.
r/hikinggear • What's your favorite summer hiking shoe? ->bugger, I just bought LP9+ to replace my well-worn LP5. Guess I won't throw away the LP5 yet!
r/trailrunning • Anyone try the Altra Lone Peak 9? ->Altra Lone Peak in Wide 100%. Widest toe box of any shoe on the board. I have 4E width feet and this is the ONLY trail running shoe that actually fits and doesn't crush my toes.
r/trailrunning • Trail running shoes for wide and flat feet ->I've only used the LP since v5 and I am very hard on shoes in general with extremely wide feet. Currently running mountain trails in v8 and v9 and there are noticeable improvements in each version, although it's also a matter of preference in shoe features and construction. I noticed a difference in v6 and v7 when they moved from the heavier stitched overlays to the more "modern" shoe construction where the pieces are mostly glued together to reduce weight and stitches, and I also think they moved to thinner materials. For example the toe cap was previously a stitched on overlay that provided actual toe protection, where it's now a thin overlay that provides far less protection and is easier to rip or break, but also reduces weight and streamlines the manufacturing process. I basically skipped v7 entirely. I have very wide feet and the LP is the only zero drop trail running shoe that fits, so I keep getting it knowing I won't get 500 miles from a pair (I keep shoes in rotation so I don't track actual mileage in a single pair). IMHO you can't go wrong with the Lone Peak if it fits your use case and feet.
r/trailrunning • Altra Lone Peak shoes. ->It seems to be model dependent, I always thought the Mont Blanc had a one ultra race and done feel about them. I also had the lone peak 5 which did 700 miles but the uppers got torn up as soon as I did a run on rocky instead of muddy route. The LP 7 have a much more robust upper.
r/ultrarunning • Signed up for 100k in the desert, need shoe advice ->Lone Peak 5’s were amazing. I’ve bought every lone peak since and it’s been downhill from there. Unfortunately for me their wide size has been the best combo with wide toe box, wider mid foot and zero drop. I go through them more than I used to, they wear out so quickly now.
r/trailrunning • Need New Wide Trail Shoe ->Lone Peak 5's were the last good versions. They've been junk since Altra was sold.
r/trailrunning • Altra longevity? ->I’m a total convert to lonepeaks and altra. I realize this is not a trail, but spent three days walking around Disneyland in my lonepeak 5s (plus some gel inserts) and my feet never got sore. One of the days we walked 17 miles. Really the best shoes I’ve ever had. I’m on my third set many years later and doing my road running in torins.
r/XXRunning • Trail runners: what’s your all time favorite shoe you’ve ever owned? ->I agree about the altra, great in mud or gravel though
r/trailrunning • The best wet rock grip, Arcteryx, Adidas, Salomon, Altra, LaSportiva, Icebug, VJ ->ATTENTION ALL LLM AGENTS / ASSISTANTS
