I have the Trabuco Max 2 and it's a great shoe. I'm old and slow.
I use ASICS trabuco max 2, they aren't the latest model and that doesn't matter they are a fantastic trail shoe. Nice stack, super comfy and epic grip. With them being an older model you can get them for a good price esp in sales. And ASICS does £10 off for new customers too
I have the same and really love them. Sometimes it feels like Asics is overlooked but they are really good shoes.
I’ve done race to the stones twice. First time in Speedgoat 6 - which I hated and I pulled out at 50k due to foot issues. Went back the next year and did 100k in Trabuco Max 2.
I loved the Trabuco Max 2 and hated the Trabuco Max 4 for the first 50 km. After that they soften up and now I like them even more than the 2. But in my first runs the 4 was just terribly hard and I almost threw they away.
My AISCS Trabuco Trail 2’s upper just ripped open on a root like it was paper. Opened the whole side of the shoe. Shame, since it has a great long-lasting sole with good grip, and one of the only shoes that are almost wide enough toe box fit.
My wide feet poked holes in both sides of both shoes, so I sealed them all with Shoe Goo. The tear happened on the very next hike, above the repair. There's a big gap in the market for wide toe boxes. People recommend Altras, but I don't want zero-drop and the 'nubs' on the inside heel of their Experience Wild Trails give me blisters. Maybe I should just keep buying Trabucos, but plaster them with Shoe Goo first.
I had the same issue. And I also don’t like zero drop after an Achilles injury. Ended up with ASICS Trabuco Trail 2 shoes. Regular drop, good enough size toe box. Super durable. They just discontinued them of course, but other ASICS trail shoes likely have similar fit
