for mixed terrain like that, i’d lean trabuco 14 or tomir 2 since both handle rocks and mud pretty well without feeling too bulky. max 5 is softer but a bit much for technical trails.
[Trabuco 14](https://www.asics.com/pl/en-pl/trabuco--14/p/1011C166-800.html) [Trabuco MAX 5](https://www.asics.com/pl/en-pl/trabuco--max-5/p/1011C164-020.html) I haven't seen this being announced on anywhere so look what I found this morning. The changes made to Trabuco 14 seem to be a go with the flow of current trend for more bouncy foam, and more of it. Looks very promising in my opinion. But man was I disappointed when I found out about Trabuco MAX 5.... I have 4s, and I love the idea behind this shoe, more stack, more of an all-terrain shoe, rather than hardcore trail runner, but the 4s don't deliver on this idea after 1500km on the I feel like there is room for improvement and this shoe would slap in high stack trail category. I like to think that 5s are just there cuz management wanted a yearly release and they just slapped some new materials to the upper and called it a day... I love the idea behind this shoe, and Asics has some great foams to be molded to it, but they decided to just slap some new colors... Sorry for the rant, but I was looking forward to new version of these and I'm so disappointed. I will definitely be going to the nearest shoe store to check on the 14s, as a replacement for my 4s. What are your thoughts about this ?
Ive never said they were a disappointment. I’ve said there is a room for improvement, and seeing 5s being released without any, thats where my disappointment is. Other thing is I don’t have this kind of money to throw around every time a shoe I bought turns out to be not a best fit for me. I try to get most out of it, and this is the most I could get out of it.
I would not suggest Trabuco 13 or 14 for 100 miler- you would want the Trabuco MAX 4 or 5 for that. Good grip and protection and comfort. I'm also 200ish and a bit wider foot- I absolutely love the ON clouldultra Pro- Just a perfect shoe (IMO)
This is what I went with. Tried the trabuco max 5, but the toe box was too tight. Had been using zegama 2s since they came out and loved those. Altamesa 500 v2 are so comfy, light, and spacious.
Asics Trabuco Max is my favorite for the trails. I love them.
Both. They are nearly the same shoe. The 5 is slightly lighter but its not that noticeable on foot. I ran a 100 mile race and a 50 miler in the 4 last year. With the 5 a few ultras. The difference is negligible between the two.
Asics Trabuco Max is my go to. I can log up to 500 miles on them before having to get a new pair.
ASICS Trabuco Max 5! A little lighter or damn similar to speedboat. Plenty cushion, wider toe box and deeper. Amazing grip, while it’s not a Vibram, it held up for me in some real slop. Plus the upper is DWR treated which might be nice in the PNW
If you like the nimbus, get an ASICS Trabuco Max. It’s basically a trail nimbus. Same midsole foam, but more grip, different upper.
