"I've worn Xodus runners for years on class 3/4 scrambles in the PNW, in addition to leading a few low class 5 routes with them as well."
"Got me through a week with everything Utah can throw at you - snow, mud, dirt, gravel, sand, slickrock, slot-canyon scooting, and the occasional stream crossing - and I never felt unsure of my footing."

"just for hiking and trail rubbing ... Personally I wore them for my ultra."
"I'll be wearing the Adidas Terrex Agravic Speed Ultra for them [30 Mile in August at Lean Horse (Custer, SD) on a gravel railroad bed followed by a 50K at the Wolverine State 100 (Alpena, MI) on crushed limestone and then the Dead Horse 50 Mile (Moab, UT) on slickrock]"
"I consider it to be more of a long distance shoe. ... I used it to run up to 100 miles on rough terrain."

"I've had them for a few years and now the battery doesn't last for more than 40 mins, so looking for a different model."

"I am a flopper and tended to roll onto the edges, which made them collapse and dumped me onto the ground."
"I had a very hard time sleeping on the neoair, the horizontal baffles killed my shoulders (Im a side sleeper)."
"I find horizontal baffles extremely uncomfortable … it feels as if anything closer to the edge falls down and doesn’t give any support."

"Sections of the trail were fairly muddy this time. ... It was there the shoe washed out over and over again. ... The experience was similar to trail running in road shoes. ... There was a total loss of grip. ... We also need to see a shoe with longer lugs and a better lug pattern to give confidence in wet conditions."
"they are not great in muddy conditions, the sole gets logged easily and loses all traction"
"the tread filled up with mud. ... While hiking along narrow rock I slipped several times and finally cracked a rib. ... He was bloody from slipping and falling."

"Catamounts were horrrrrendous for me. ... I could barely walk let alone run a mile and a half without getting the worst shin splints I've ever had."

"I rolled my ankle badly with them last weekend though. ... They are the most stable show I have, they give me too much confidence on technical descents compared to my actual technique."
I wear the Brooks Catamount and I'm really happy with it!
r/trailrunning • Female runners - what’s your favourite cushioned trail running shoe? ->Some already said, but I'd look at the: * Topo MTN Racer 3 - tried them on in store and thought they felt great * Brooks Catamount 3 or 4 - I run in the 2's right now and have the 3's waiting in the wings. This is my favorite trail shoe, although it is a little narrow. * Nike Zegama 2 - I didn't like them because I thought the heel drop felt like too much for the trails and would cause stability issues for myself. Foam felt great though. * North Face Summit VECTIV Sky 2 - heard good things about this one that's about to come out. The one might go on sale soon. * adidas Terrex Agravic 3 - heard good things but too narrow for me * adidas Terrex speed - heard good things but too narrow for me * nnormal kjerag - heard good things and is a sustainable brand * Altra Monte Blanc - heard good things from people who have no heel slippage problems, although the heel didn't work for me at all
r/trailrunning • Want a faster shoe but love Topo Ultraventure ->I used Catamounts for my 50 miler last weekend in the San Juans and they’re great, but on their last life
r/ultrarunning • On Cloudultra Pro - outsoles post-108K ->Im ~85kg and found that i prefer firm and responsive when running (short) races, with a not-too-stretchy upper. I think the brooks catamount could be a good option - they feel fast, stable and sturdy (i have the 2’s). The kjerags works well for me too i must say.
r/trailrunning • Looking for a Trail Running Shoe for Short Races – With Enough Support for a Heavier Runner ->You might have luck with Brooks Catamount or Cascadias! They both are fairly narrow and have a protective rock plate. I also love Topo Mtn Racers- they have a wider toe box but are narrower everywhere else, and they have vibram soles with great traction. As a general heads up, I have narrow feet too and swear by heel lock lacing- it’s been a game changer and prevents a lot of heel slipping!
r/trailrunning • Trail runners for hiking/running in the mountains ->I wear Glys and wear trail runners, if you just like brooks try the catamount 2s or 3s, great beginner trail shoes. If you are looking outside the brand I really like the Nike zegama 2s, I plan to wear those on my next ultra
r/trailrunning • Trail shoe advice for someone who loves Brooks Glycerine? ->Go with the catamounts. Been doing so for 2.5 years. Get you a girl that can do both
r/trailrunning • Lightweight trail shoe that also doubles as a road runner? ->I have a broad forefoot and a narrow heel. Brooks has been good to me as well as La Sportiva. Prodigo Pros and Caldera 8 is what I am working with now. For faster nimbler shoe I have been using the Catamount. Not sure about this latest version, haven't tried it.
r/trailrunning • Shoe recommendations ->Idk if it’s a “heavy” enough option but I’ve enjoyed backpacking in the Brooks trail shoes. I wore the catamount for a 2 day 14-mile trip through the desolation wilderness in Tahoe and loved them. No blisters and felt a lot more nimble than my buddies in hiking boots.
r/trailrunning • Which shoes would you recommend for day hiking that aren't traditional shoes but not trail running shoes either? ->I am on my third pair! Freaking love that shoe, and they are a great performing shoe that doesn't cost a fortune.
r/trailrunning • What trail running shoes & gear are you all rocking this season? ->I went from the New Balance Hierros to the Brooks Catamount 3, and I like how much ground feel I have with the Catamount. If you're in the US, you can get some pretty good deals on the Catamount 3 instead of the newer Catamount 4, too! I usually get at least 400 miles out of my pairs on some pretty technical trails and feel like they're a good value on a high performing shoe.
r/trailrunning • Trail Running Shoes ->The Catamount is a much lighter weight shoe with less cushion. To me, it feels much faster and more nimble. Even though there's less cushion, I've still worn it for 50 mile races with no issues. I like that it's a high performing shoe that is still relatively affordable and I can get a decent amount of miles out of before they start wearing down too much. It also runs pretty well on the road, so it's pretty versatile as a road to trail shoe or just strictly trail. But as others have said, the best shoe for you is the one that fits your feet the best. Find places with good selection or good return policies to see what works best for you!
