I'll second this, by far best running shoe I've had. They are minimalist enough, minimal toe drop, good enough arch support, good at keeping out debris, don't need to be sinched down tight as they fit perfectly snug, not much cushion, but the tread is amazing, lasts way longer than Salomon, and they have enough protection to not kill your feet when you land on a pointy rock wrong. I thought they were too tight at first, but man these are good shoes. Might go up a half size next pair. For reference I'm at 10.5 in Salomon, and got 10.5 sky DNA. The length is good enough on the dynafit, but they are a tad narrower. they are also a bit harder to get into. I've also been using a few gen ago Salomon sense sLabs soft grounds. They are pretty cool, feels likes wearing a sock with tread, very comfy and good grip, but tread doesn't last very long and they don't have enough rock protection.

My favorite in this category atm is the Dynafit Sky DNA. Scarpa Spin Race is also good.

Sharing my experience in case it helps anyone else with similar criteria in shoes. I have "low volume" (aka narrow) feet, and it's incredibly hard to find anything in local shoe stores that fit me. Now that most shoes have gone toward roomier toeboxes, I find my feet move around too much in standard size shoes. I run almost exclusively in mountains on steep technical trails and need a shoe with good ground feel, not ultra shoes with ridiculous stack heights. I previously ran in Inov8 G 290's, but those have been discontinued and now that Inov8 rebranded and redesigned all their shoes they just don't work for me. Too squishy, too loose, and frankly they look like clown shoes now. I was almost ready to give up on finding a replacement until I tried the Sky DNA. They are like the G 290, but better in about every way. Low stack height and drop (4mm) and fit like a glove. They have a moderately roomy toe box, but still hold the area between midfoot and forefoot securely. Heel feels totally locked in. The sole is also pretty much spot on for me, providing cushioning without feeling bouncy or soft. I want to feel like I am pushing off the ground, not bouncing off my shoes. Are these the fastest, most energy efficient shoes out there if you are looking to shave time off a marathon or ultra? Probably not. But for shorter runs (I mostly do 10k or under), they feel absolutely awesome to run in. I recommend them if you are looking for a shoe that bucks maximalist trends, but don't want to go fully minimalist.

Follow this link for a photo of them next to my old 290. https://imgur.com/a/Lp8n1E8 I normally wear size 9, so that's what the Dynafit is. The Inov-8 is a size 9.5 because they tended to run a touch small in their old models. The new Inov-8's are closer to a true 9. I could probably go a half size up in the Dynafit and still feel secure in them. They did feel a little tight at first, but have broken in nicely. Stack height is visually deceptive on the Dynafit. The way it's molded it looks higher on the outside than it actually is inside. I can't say for sure, but it's definitely less than 20mm which puts it on the low end of what is being generally sold now. Haven't had a chance to try them in significant water yet. It's been awfully dry where I live and rainy season is just about to start, so I'll know soon.

Even though I am a Salomon junkie, I'll still recommend Dynafit Sky DNA.  I picked up a pair on a whim off sierra.com when they were marked all the way down to 35 bucks.  I just liked the way they looked.  They quickly became my favorite single track shoe.  They come with a quicklace but it's double laces.  I never have to adjust them unnecessarily (I adjust tightness depending on terrain).  They are very robustly built, but they are also light.  It's a very fast and agile show.  The grip on wet rock and roots is awesome.  The only downside, at least for me, is I don't care to run in them on more gravely routes.  Kinda hard to describe but they just don't feel the best.  So that's why I only wear them on single track.

There are no trail shoes with a pronation-support system. Such system is counterproductive on an uneven trail and can cause problems and injuries. I am running Adrenaline and Glycerine GTS as my road shoes and have x-bionic, dynafit and saucony Peregrines as my trail running shoes. X-bionic and dynafit are relatively stable, I use a special insole in Peregrines (not from orthopedics)
