"they are extremely durable. ... I’ve got well over 1000 miles out of a pair and they still have grip and the uppers are in great shape"

"As far as grip goes, all three are excellent. It's truly amazing how good they are at gripping scree, sand, and unstable terrain."

"They only take a few mins to dry out if you are wearing proper socks, wool/poly blend."

"I’ve dunked them in rivers and they dry quick."

"Both dry out pretty quickly for me."

"I’ve done owls head, Zealand, the tris, carters, kinsman’s, twins + galehead, Madison and Adams, and Washington all in the same pair and they’re holding up well."

"I've put 500+ miles into every pair of Hoka Speedgoats I have owned--really just the lugs start to wear down after a while."

"super comfy (my knees ache so much less on descents with them) ... I can’t stress enough how much they’ve helped my bad left knee on descents."

"I've since switched to Hoka Speedgoats and all that is a distant memory. ... Super cushy ... the payback in end-of-the-day comfort is huge to me."

"I had them on my feet for 6 hours + with no pain points ... Super comfy"

"even in the men's wide I have to wrap my bunions in leukotape and still get a lot of irritation due to the toe squeeze of the tapered toe box (and I'm already going up 1/2 size)"

"They fit more rigid with more pressure points and have less room in the tow box. ... They were never as comfortable out of the box or hiking as a topo athletic shoe and I’ve had several pairs. ... I’m always very ready to take these shoes off at the end of the day.. ... after a long day, my feet feel like they were in a rock crusher since the cushion 0%."

"I have additionally had issues with the Vibram soles delaminating from THREE SEPARATE PAIRS of Speedgoats now. So they are struggling with some quality control issues with their adhesive. ... I think their adhesive just degrades with time. The shoes were probably manufactured and sat in a warehouse long before they made their way to my feet. Plus I think the design of their sole contributes to the problem."

"they break down incredibly fast ... each time it feels like they last for a shorter number of miles ... For me, they've started breaking down after about 200 miles ... my current pair has holes in the front of the sole ... My other 2 pairs got a hole near the heel part of the sole; rocks would get in and while running they would hit my heel which was quite painful"

"I’d wager the speedgoats’ sole holds up well in the PNW, but they seem to essentially dissolve in hot dry conditions ... The AZT killed my speedgoat soles after a week, it’s really not a great compound for hot/dry/sandy"

"I was running exclusively in SGs, and rolled my ankle badly thrice in three months at the end of last year."

"I might try to stay away then. I’ve been able to avoid rolls for a while but a bad one is such a big set back ... I might give those a try first. ... I’m going to give them both a try but would rather not fall in love if it’s going to get me injured haha"

"downhills my feet were all over the place"

Gtx model is waterproof with goretex. Same shoe just waterproof, $50 more and only a few colors vs the non waterproof have like 8 to 10 colors.

Hoka's for last 3yrs. Ones I have now are Speedgoat6 GTX. The GTX have goretex and are waterproof to an extent. I had a pair of Nike golf shoes 3yrs ago and had to take them off. Played hole 9 shoeless and got my sneakers at the turn. Plantar fascitis. Now I just need my knee sleeves and I jog half the course with my pushcart.

just came back from my first run / trekking with Hoka Speedgoat 6 gtx. I'm super disappointed. they're uncomfortable, stiff, and the sole started peeling off after 30 km. it's a joke for this price

I returned my speedgoat 6 gtx after only 10 days of trail running and hiking. They were trashed. Toe cap peeling, dented midsole. These are not good shoes at all.

I have both the non-goretex traditional speedgoats and the ankle height goretex version. I'd get the non-goretex version, the goretex are not breathable.

On paper the shoe doesn’t make any sense but I ran on these for Canyons 100k this past weekend and these shoes are far and away my favorite. For long trail outings, these are just amazing in terms of comfort without feeling like bricks (looking at you latest Speedgoat). I have the Tecton X 2.5, Zegama 2, Mafate Speed, the latest Speedgoat, and these and I’ll reach for these every time.

I’ve run my last two pairs of Challengers into the ground. Probably a bit too much with my last pair at almost 1,400k! I have had bad “luck” with my previous Speedgoats where the inside of the back of one felt really odd and rubbed against my Achilles loads. No issues with a newer pair. My latest Challengers feel a bit less tight on my feet but maybe I need to change my lacing.  That happening twice to you doesn’t just feel like bad luck though.

Hoka Challengers are my go-to for most runs. Must be 1,000km into this pair at least.  And Speedgoat 6s for the heavier stuff. Went into the shop to go for something else after a bad experience with the 5s but they were still the best fit of everything I tried

I’m on my third pair of Hoka Challengers as they’re great for the majority of what I do, with a pair of Speedgoats for harder terrain. They last pretty well too with my most recent ones going for 1,200k before I retired them and I still use them for walking.  (I’m not a Hoka fanboy but whenever I’ve been into a shop to try new shoes, I’ve still always preferred these ones).

The 5’s were my favourite trail runner hands down. Just the right balance between cushioning and stability. The 6 was a disappointment being too stiff. Such a shame.

The 6s are stiff, but they do break in decently. Very stable, not a very exciting shoe, but an absolute workhorse. The grip does wear down a little quicker than I’d like, but it is what it is.

I am using now Hoka speedgoat 6 and they are amazing! I would recommend going to the shop, trying all 3 and just pick up the one the feels most comfortable. All 3 are great options
