Not waterproof, but as someone whose toes get squished by most shoes, I've had good luck with the studded version of the Icebug Pytho6. Light and comfortable. There is a version without studs, but there are limited sizes left in stock.

IceBug FTW. Just bought my second pair of Pytho6’s and they are awesome for winter running in the Colorado Front Range. Their customer support is excellent too. https://www.icebug.com/en-US/product/pytho6-mens-bugrip-black Kahtoola are popular, but my foot size is awkwardly between medium and large on nano-spikes.

I have a pair of ice bug shoes and I like them. They're great on really icy days, and give me great traction. I've never slipped in them. However, they can be a little annoying in more mixed conditions. On bare sidewalks with no ice the metal spikes hitting the cement is jarring. Also, I really only every do easy runs in them. When I do speed work I want to be 100% comfortable with my footing, so if it's icy and I want to do speed I run on the treadmill.

Agree! I use them all winter and love them. I have done a winter race in them and been surprised how well they behaved, though still not my go to for speed work in winter.

Icebugs or Salomon SpikeCross 6 running shoes are best for snow/ice.

my husband and I have worn IceBugs for years here in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont where the dirt roads are frozen or snowpacked every winter. We also run on the snowpacked snowmobile trails during the week when there are few snowmobiles out. I switched to Salomon Spikecross 6 shoes last year, the material on tops of my old IceBugs had ripped through. the unisex Salomon have a wider toe box which is a better fit for me with winter socks. another issue is putting them on in our warm kitchen and not scratching up the floor with the spikes, so we have throw rugs down from bench to door. We love our spiked running shoes, those yaktracks break, create an uneven step and foot issues.

Yes, but they are close. The Salomon have a better toe flex for running, the IceBugs seemed heavier and stiffer, also the Salomon have slightly longer spikes or maybe my old icebug spikes had worn down a lot.

I’ve run in spiked Ice Bugs since 2008. Love them.

Icebugs are high quality and durable. Also had Hoka Speedgoat Spike and was happy, particularly with how the foot is protected from the spike pressure.

Trail shoes (GTX) with Kahtoola NANOs for road and EXOs for trail. For all in one, check out Icebug

It snows half the year where I live, so I do IceBugs. I have a nice set of trail gaiters I wear when it's softer snow.
