"The roborock I have kicked and smashed with my foot so many times out of anger when it doesn't collaborate, and still he rocks 4-5 yrs later and no broken parts"

"they are extremely durable. ... I’ve got well over 1000 miles out of a pair and they still have grip and the uppers are in great shape"

"I've used them for 1500 miles of multi-day hiking with no issues!"

"Salomon Genesises for hiking and trail running. ... I'm on my third pair and basically use my last pair for road running (I don't do a lot of it) while the newer pair is for hiking/trail."

"The Xtalon 212 was my universal "off road with some path but will cope with proper muck" shoe for everything up to marathon. ... I still haven't found anything quite like them."

"I race ultras in SLab Genesis and train in the regular Genesis."

"I have narrow feet and hike/ backpack I love my La Sportiva Bushido trail runners."

"Whereas something like my Bushidos feel like an extension of my foot."

"the X-Talons were like a tight glove with minimal movement running."

"They also have the best sole material I’ve found for slippery mud and rocks."

"imo x talons are excellent at wet rock"

"I ran Lofoten for a few months in autumn/winter and i'm from the UK and Inov8 are probably the best call here for ground conditions, both very similar."

"Took them to Chamonix last year and they felt horrible - too much ground feel."

"I cannot claim it was the shoes, but I had severe knee pain after a few hour run in them, as well as aggravated peroneals. I had to take few days off and was able to sustain similar training load soon after, while wearing different shoes."

"had some real, uhm, "challenges" with my knee (very swollen) after my last 100 ... feel like I might need a bit more "cushion" for a 100 ... I've had horrible knee swelling after a 100 in Challengers and obviously that could be from a lot of different things BUT I wondered if a bit more cushion might help mitigate the issue."

"very fragile when they come into contact with any rocks or roots. ... When I finished they were full of holes. ... For 160 euros I'll be lucky if they last the month."

"O cabedal é feito com aquelas telas, por isso ele acaba não sendo muito resistente. ... Eu usei ele em Uricibi para fazer uma trilha que cruzava um rio várias vezes nesse fim de semana e num trecho em que a mata estava bastante fechada, eles acabaram rasgando nesses pontos pelo atrito com a vegetação"

"I bought the 13s and after two runs totalling 30k a hole was starting to appear on the side and the front toe area where the outsole meets the upper, it started peeling. I sent them back for a refund."

"Xodus Ultras were also a bit too narrow in the toebox for me for anything over 50k."

"They’re sizing isn’t very consistent though so worth trying in a shop if you can find them."

"Far better than my previous pair of inov8s which I think had involvement from Torville and/or Dean in the design"

I started noticing this a couple years ago and planned accordingly. For me I have huge feet and it's hard to find good shoes. For those in my situation and like a low drop and low rise, look into Inov-8. I've only bought these shoes since early '23 and I hope they never change.

Topo mtn racer has better grip. Inov8 has better grip also; Trailfly for hard trails and Mudfly for wet/mud.

I much prefer the new Mudtalon to these - have had both. The X-talon a pure soft ground shoe I think though. Wouldn't like to be caught on wet slabby rock. You can get a range of fits in the newer shoe too - precision, standard and wide which helps.

After trying a few different shoes, I've decided that Merrell Long Sky 2 and Skyfire 2 are perfect for me. Fairly firm, don't have a massive drop and grippy enough for all but the worst weather conditions. I also have some Inov-8 x-talon 212 which come in handy when it's wet and muddy. I don't think they make them anymore, very narrow shoe but I've run varying distances up to 32km in them with no problems.

I’ve been wearing Inov-8s for 15+ years for trail and fell running and even moved to them for XC races when achilles injuries meant I could no longer wear spikes. Always done the job for me, reasonable value and regularly available with chunky discounts online.

Inov-8 has a bunch of models in a wide size now. Even the older models I use have a lot of room for my toes. Durability is fine I think, compared to what I read about Altras.

I'd say yes (not having used the latest models personally though). I find mine very comfortable.

Don’t know of any places that offer that kind of support but you could try inov8. They’re outsoles are supposed to be tough. The ones I’ve used fell apart before the sole showed any wear. They’re sizing isn’t very consistent though so worth trying in a shop if you can find them.

I maintain that it was a crime to replace the Mudclaw and Xtalon with that shoe. They replaced their fell shoes with a trail shoe that's good in mud. They're just shit at contouring and too fragile to bash through heather etc.

I'd sack off the Hokas (notorious for being rubbish in mud) and maybe look for some old xtalon 212s that haven't sold. May be a bit narrow though.
