Just here to say the speedgoat 6 is far more disliked than the newer 7 or the 5s. Making sure you know all models aren’t seen as equal by most users. Edit: that said (as someone who has a pair of 7s and loves them…) I think the Raptor 3 GTX is better suited when you’re getting into scree fields and rain/snow.
Go for La Sportiva brand - had the raptor for one of the most difficult track in Europe (GR20 in Corsica) and they were amazing
Trail runners on AV1 is definitely doable in July, your friends are right about weight savings. Between those two I'd lean toward the La Sportiva - better grip on scree and wet rock from my experience in Alps. The GTX membrane will help with snow patches you might hit at higher elevations That elevation gain sounds brutal but amazing, did similar route few years back and my ankles were screaming by day 4. Make sure whatever you pick is already broken in properly
Hello, I recently moved to Bolzano (Italy), and I’d like to start exploring the mountains around here and, of course, the Dolomites too. I’ve seen a few discussions comparing trail running shoes and hiking shoes. A lot of people say trail runners are more comfortable, but also that they don’t last as long, which matters to me because I usually like to buy things that last. Any recommendations, especially considering the kind of areas I’ll be visiting? EDIT: Would also like to point out that the AI chats usually point me towards the Salomon X Ultra 5 as the best all-around. Is that valid?
I liked the ultra raptor 3 and the sportiva tx4 evo I know the ultra raptor 3 is better all arounder but the tx4 is more durable even though its less comfortable, so I am between these two. Scarpa and some other brands were fine, but I liked these the most (aesthetically too lol)
They're being updated for next year, not discontinued. The new version is different but does maintain a lot of the feel of the 2.
The 3s are great. I was able to try on a sample. They do fit wider than the 2s, which I think is a big plus. Looking forward to them hitting the market. I don't think there's much chance they won't be produced - retailers are already placing their orders for them for next year.
La Sportiva Ultra Raptor Mid II GTX or Salomon X Ultra would be your best bets. The Ultra Raptor is more narrow. The current X Ultra is a bit more generous in its toebox. They are both very light, but you still get some protection from water and debris because of the high(ish) collar. Note that the collar of these boots provides literally 0 ankle support, though that is the case with ***most*** modern synthetic boots. If you want ankle support, you're better off using a brace, or you have to take the weight penalty and go to a more sturdy, tall boot, such as the Asolo TPS 520 GV Evo, Scarpa Kinesis Pro GTX, etc., etc. Since you do trail running, I'm sure you'll be much more content with the Ultra Raptor or X Ultra than a backpacking boot.
