Merrell Agility Peak : good traction on rock and in the mud, durable Vibram sole, good cushion and dries pretty fast (remove the inner sole for faster drying). I tested the AP4 and AP5 which were pretty roomy for wider feet. I have not tested the Agility Peak 6. It's a good option to consider if the Hoka (too tight for me) or Altra (heel slippage issues) shoes don't fit you perfectly. I've also heard great things about trail shoes from Topo Athletic.
To be honest 10k steps a day mostly on pavement (but with some trails) sounds more like you need something with good cushion (to take the impact of pavement) and a bit of grip, but dont need a ton of ankle support or winter protection. Maybe look at trail running shoes as well as walking shoes. I have Merrell Agility Peak 4s (goretex) and I'm happy with them for traipsing round Yorkshire on walks that mix road/ canal/ woodland/ moors. I also like Hoka and Salomon's walking and trail running options. Although retail is often £120+ they're often on sale and the prior season's models are often discounted
I haven't tried any of those, but did try an earlier Peregrine (10 maybe), and didn't like it. Too "dead" and heavy for my liking. But the newer versions are better from what I've read. It could be worth a try, given how popular they are. I do have all three of the Salomons I mentioned, but also have and like the Merrell Long Sky 2 and their Agility Peak, which I'm wearing more these days because they have a wider toe box.
But if may higher budget ka, you cant go wrong with Salomon Speedcross/Thundercross, Hoka Mafate/Speedgoat
I feel like I can speak almost directly to this. I have Salomon Thundercross which yes is a different shoe but I also have the Merrell Agility Peaks. Both are great shoes. The Thundercross have a much narrower toe box and just more narrow all around. Thick but stable mid sole and good lugs but I have slipped on wet rock and wooden bridges in them. I usually use them for shorter runs as I don’t think my feet could handle a longer run, in the narrower shoe. Agilith Peaks are my favorite shoe I’ve used so far. Wider toe box and midfoot. Thick and cushiony midsole. Nice lugs and also a bit more grip, I don’t slip as much in them. But because of the midsole being more cushiony, I have rolled my ankle, which I’m prone to rolling my ankle just walking so it’s not all on the shoe, just something to keep in mind. Also the upper seems to be wearing out quicker. I’ve already had to use shoe goo in both shoes where the upper at the sides has separated just a tiny bit where midfoot and toebox meet and the creases there. But it’s still my favorite shoe to run in for trials.
I just started wearing the Merrell Nova and the Merrell Agility Peak. In my opinion the Nova are way more comfortable and the grip is great. Dont bother spending more money on the Agility Peak. They arent as comfortable and the grip is the same.
I’m in Southeastern PA - I feel that rocky trail pain! I love Merrell - currently in Agility Peaks. I think it’s really individual. If you’ve got a show you love - they probably make one made for technical terrain…
Merrell Agility Peak is my current wear. Not narrow, but not as roomy as Altra would be. I have the waterproof ones but I get super sweaty, and they do let water in after a while, so the proofing isn’t really needed for me. They are comfortable straight out the box and adorable. I’ve previously had the Moab speed in the “boot” version (2021/2022ish) and I adored them. I never got round to trying the low cut trail runner version, but they lasted me over a year on trails and 5 months travelling around Europe. Very light and comfy, I ran in them regularly. On my feet, the agility has worn down a lot quicker than the Moab speed.
Merrel agility peak kaso medjo mabigat siya.pero makapit di ka madudulas Salomon speed cross 6, wala silang official store dito sa pinas so di mo siya ma try in person
Agility Peak. I used mine in Guiting Guiting, and it’s still OK.
