Versatile road-to-trail, but struggles on wet, technical downhills.

Running these analyses costs money. Buy through my links to help keep lights on! I may get a small commission.
I had the version one. It was definitely a snug fitting shoe. It felt reasonably fast but mine failed badly at 254 km. The forefoot foam collapsed on both shoes and now appears in a sunken in fashion that looks conformed around the plate. Absolutely no cushion left. Don’t think I’d bother trying the shoe again even in v2
I have the original supercomp trail it felt like a slimmed down half marathon at most race shoe (tight fitting, little cushion). I am probably the last person to talk to about energy return but it never seemed exciting to me and that is confirmed on runrepeat in the energy return section. I got it like 60-70% off but would have felt ripped off at full price. So this better be a major revamp to be worth the money, imho.
The more a shoe is a tight (race) fit the more likely I have this happen. I don’t think sizing up would help those type of shoes. For example I can run in the New Balance Supercomp Trail for 14-15 miles if steep but I couldn’t do that same run the next day because those shoes are very hard on the toes. But I could do any steepness in the New Balance More Trail v3, which has a bit bigger toe box (but not as roomy as an Altra Olympus, which I find too roomy for moving fast).
The FuelCell Supercomp trail I would say is more geared for shorter races. It is so tight fitting I wouldn’t want to run more than 2-2.5 hours in it.
I've only ever used the SuperComp Trail so I don't know either, but looking at them I'd go with Fresh Foam personally. I see some wide's available in your size here (where I buy all my NB for road and trail): [https://www.joesnewbalanceoutlet.com/pd/fresh-foam-x-hierro-v9/MTHIERV9-50176.html](https://www.joesnewbalanceoutlet.com/pd/fresh-foam-x-hierro-v9/MTHIERV9-50176.html)
Kjerag is a good shout. I enjoyed NB SC Trail too.
New Balance Supercomp Trail is this shoe. You can get them discounted these days too.
My favorites are the NB Fuelcell Supercomp Trail and the Hoka Tecton X. There is a new Hoka Rocket X Trail that looks great but just came out and I usually wait for prices to go down, thus, haven't tried it. Nike Ultrafly felt clunky. Another one I'm looking at is the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite Trail - here's a link: [https://www.runningwarehouse.com/PUMA\_Deviate\_Nitro\_Elite\_Trail/descpage-PDNETM1.html?from=gpmax&gad\_source=1&gad\_campaignid=21369681781&gbraid=0AAAAADka\_jgpsE8k-pBFreYEfi2vio7qC&gclid=Cj0KCQiAtfXMBhDzARIsAJ0jp3BXyUFGOkO8J1cFhQRW4oyGTqMEddmGw41clPGZaCgR\_XW4PBazAqkaAvwgEALw\_wcB](https://www.runningwarehouse.com/PUMA_Deviate_Nitro_Elite_Trail/descpage-PDNETM1.html?from=gpmax&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21369681781&gbraid=0AAAAADka_jgpsE8k-pBFreYEfi2vio7qC&gclid=Cj0KCQiAtfXMBhDzARIsAJ0jp3BXyUFGOkO8J1cFhQRW4oyGTqMEddmGw41clPGZaCgR_XW4PBazAqkaAvwgEALw_wcB) I have NOT tried the Puma, just like the looks of it.
