Here’s my contribution. I haven’t done controlled tests like you did, but I run a lot of rocky vertical terrain and have put lots of miles in all these shoes. Trying to focus here on wet rock grip from the outsole and ignore other shoe attributes (fit, lock down, flexibility/stiffness, weight, cushion, etc) that also come into play with their overall ability to do the job on wet rock 5: VJ Maxx 1&2 VJ Spark Arcteryx Norvan VT (limited mileage) 4. Arcteryx Norvan SL 1, 2, &3 Salomon s/Lab Sense 7&8 Nnormal Kjeraq 3. La Sportiva Helios SR La Sportiva Vertical K & VK INOV-8 F-Lite 195 2. Whole bunch of older inov-8 x-talon and RocLite models NB minimus Salomon s/lab ultra 3 Salomon s/lab sense 7SG 1. Old Nike Terra kiger Salomon s/lab sense 1, 2, 3 For spiked shoes, I actually think they suffer quite a bit on rock because they don’t stick instantly like pure rubber soles. 4. VJ Devil 4 3. VJ bold race, VJ ice hero, INOV-8 ORoc 280

I used to love running on the New Balance Minimus line. I did a full road marathon in them which in hindsight was probably a mistake 😂. I had to stop and get more supportive shoes when I developed some ankle tendon issues but looks like they’re still around. Be careful if you’re running long distances in this type of shoe.

A low profile trail shoe is the way to go. Low is stable and being closer to the ground means less chance of a bad ankle roll. (Like rolling your ankle while barefoot or in high heels) Currently I'm rocking the New Balance Minimus Trail shoes. Not the same as the OG Minimus but they do the job and are very grippy. That being said it's time to work on rebuilding your ankle strength. Shoes can only help so much. Cheers and glad to hear you're getting back in the trails!

You might take a look at new balance minimus. I had a pair awhile back and loved them.

I know what you mean by the old NB Minimus line. I LOVED my original minimus trail. They were the perfect shoe IMHO. Currently I use the Altra Trail Superior 6. But I think if you wanted to be as minimal as the old NB Minimus then perhaps something from VivoBarefoot like the Primus Trail FG 3.5. Xero shoes has some pretty packable ones as well

2 pairs of brooks ghost for training runs about 1000k on one pair and 200 on the new ones, adios pro 3 (\~500k and still fine) for longer races and just got takumi sen 11 for shorter stuff after the 9s fell apart at the seams. I wish they made the takumi Sens like the old ones, there doesn't seem to be a nice pair of racing flats available these days (well not easily anyway). Oh and new balance minimus for shorter trail stuff!
