A lot going on here, including misconceptions. Altra isn't necessarily wide unless you buy wide, they're foot shaped. Most reviews I've seen have called out that it's on the wider, more voluminous side of fitting. If anything, it sounds like you could use a half size down. I have 101 miles on my pair over 6 different runs which have included a 50k right out of the box, three 20 milers and 2 shorter speed sessions. Over those miles, there's minimal wear for me. I went with the same size as my pair of 001's and fits fine. I might've been able to go a half size down but I know that during my 100 miler in a month my feet will swell and I'll absolutely want the extra space that I currently have in the 005. Midsole, my legs feel great after each run in them. My ankles have had to get used to some instability that it brings but that was mainly after my 50k out of the box section. For me, the 005 has absolutely been the most exciting trail shoe that I've ever laced up. Light, nimble, and versatile. It really responds extremely well to picking up the pace. I've been cruising on my trails around 9-10 min pace and I was able to drop a 6:30 at mile 18 in these and it felt great. That was on a completely water bogged trail where at sections I was mid shin deep in water. My feet were fine as the 005 drains exceptionally well.

I got a pair of 001s in late January for $120usd. I wasn't sure on sizing but at that price I was too curious to pass up the deal. I have about 300 miles on them now and used them for a bit of everything through this rough Michigan winter. They were great in the snow and ice and have been great on the trail now that weather's allowing us on them. The outsole really only has one wear point so far in the middle of the forefoot basically where I land. Otherwise they've been great. Feel really similar to how they felt new. I'll undoubtedly get 600+ miles out of them. I liked them so much I splurged on a pair of 005s which are also pretty wicked.

I really like the 001's. Put just over 700 miles on one pair before recently retiring them to walk around shoes (they could have gone longer still). I'm 6' 175lbs, so a bit smaller than you but still larger human than the average ultrarunner. I'm wearing the 005 model for the Zion 100mile this weekend. I've also been enjoying them. Only notes in both, the heals don't work for everyone, I had to KT tape at first on the 001, but it got better.

T1s are amazing hiking shoes and the vibram tread is holding up to rocky trails way better than my speedgoats. Toe box is awesome. Norda 005 dig into the top of my feet (high arches) a little bit but feel amazing at any pace faster than around 9:00 / mile. Slow plodding pace or just walking, wouldn't recommend. Would like to try the mafate 5s next month as my next trail shoe or possibly The Rocker if I can get a pair in my size.

I've been comparing the Nnormal Kjerag02 and Norda 005. Also the Patagonia "trail" clothing is very nice. Ps. The Norda 005 are very nicely built but too much foam for me and "unstable". I enjoy the Nnormal Kjerag 01 and 02 more. I'm running technical forest (MTB) trails 90% of the time. It's been a fun summer testing.

Norda 005 is very cushioned while still being lower than a lot of stacks. It’s my race shoe of choice. 001 is great too but a more dense foam so not as squishy/cushioned.. it’s my trainer

Also I find that once it is worked in the heel design they have locks your foot in very well and unlike anything else ive tried. The 005 has softer more broken in materials straight out of the box too btw

Put a little over 30 miles on my 002’s and went for a size 13 (I’m 6’4 225 pounds) they caused some gnarly blisters on my ankle and heel. That’s just part of the break in period. I tried on a size 12.5 at a store in Flagstaff and realized I should have gone with that size. Still going to rock the pair I got as they feel good with a tight lace up. I’ll keep the community posted after the break in period is over and the blisters heal. Training for elephant mountain next year! Ordered the 005 in size 12 for that race

They look really good, have em here since yesterday, but I’m between a 8,5 and a 9 and have the feeling it’s longer and roomier as my 9 001s… Will see, bad thing, on the first put on I had the top part of the laces in my hands from the new „lighter“ dyneema laces - not cool for such a luxury price ;)

I was going to suggest Norda and usually do for people that want a wider foot. Their price is hard to swallow but I got a lightly used pair of 002’s for half off and was amazed at how well they were made and how many miles I got out of them [800 and still use them for walking]. That being said, I recently replaced them with the 005’s that I got on sale and they are almost too wide/big for me. I got the same size as my 002’s but they just have much more volume than those. I have to cinch the shit out of them to lock my ankle/heel in. I use my 002 insoles in the 005’s because they are thicker and take up more space. In the winter I will gladly wear thick wool socks to help as well. All in all I think Norda makes a great shoe but I will never pay full price for them. Fortunately, as they become more popular, sales are much easier to find than when they first came out. I got my first pair from REI and my second pair off ebay. I have a saved search on the latter and always see a handful of good deals for them there.

Been using the Norda 005 and 001’s this summer. Love them both but the 005’s started squeaking loudly after I got them wet for the first time. Don’t notice it while running but they are noisy as shit going back and forth to the trail.

Norda 005's are door to trail, the available colourway is quite susceptible to dirt but they are great all around. I am partial to the Norda 001 in Vermillion but they can be a bit sticky and heavy on road. And if your casual wear is closer to neutral colours, then this won't do. Some adidas Terrex shoes can also serve here, depending on what colourway you like.

personally had a good experience with merrell agility peak 5. despite being a bit older model by now, they’ve been super durable for this kind of terrain and protected my feet from sharp rocks etc, and despite being relatively narrow, i’ve never rolled my ankle in them recently tried such terrain with new norda 005’s that i was soooo happy to get, and i ripped the midsole at the heel on the first run on over a mountain ridge. the upper holds super well but compared to the agility peak 5 it doesn’t protect you from injury by kicking a rock as much. bummer

Yeah about that review the 005 is different built than the 001 which has a very high durability. The outsole of the 005 will wear much quicker. If you have a cobbler around that resoles vibram you probably can get a resole with a heavier and durable megagrip after the super light and grippy but less durable sole is worn out (which you can not get resolved right now ).

I have used them for 10-15 miles trail runs. My favorite shoe for more technical trails. I love the midsole. But, depending on the trail, my feet can get sore from rocks and whatnot on longer runs. The 005s are my current go-tos for 15+ mile trails runs.

002 is a lower stack height for increased ground feel and more stability. that's it. \[and sure, it has a padded heel collar, but i'm not going to write an essay on here about how that was an unnecessary solution to a non-existent problem\]. i find them so uncomfortable i can't even walk on hardwood with them on. some people \[those with invincible rocks for feet\] love them. the 005 is intended to be a fast / race / super shoe. the 003 is stupid, it's designed by HAVEN \[a multi-brand luxury gorp fashion store in Vancouver\] and marketed as an "approach" shoe \[i hate it\]. reference - i used to be the norda dealer in my area.

One of the most fun trail shoes I've run in for years. The standout features are the upper and midsole—a minimalist, super-light "super shoe" perfect for mellow to moderately technical trails. As a long-time fan of the Norda 001, I'm used to its stiffness and bombproof build. The Norda 005, by contrast, disappears on your foot. The midsole and outsole provide noticeable support, but the upper feels sublime. The lacing system works well, but you’ll need a double knot to keep the Dyneema laces from coming undone after a mile or so. The heel cup offers solid support with no rubbing, tightness, or slippage. The midsole is supple yet firm when needed—I hope it matches the durability of the 001. The outsole and tread pattern could use improvement. On slick or muddy trails, it feels like a pair of Nike trail skates. But for California-style hardpack, light technical sections, and long climbs and descents, it’s an ideal shoe. The tread is quite sticky on roads, you can hear it. So I try to avoid that at all costs. Think that would greatly accelerate the wear. Have 75 miles on this pair. Hopeful to get at least 400-500 miles out of them for long fun runs, speed work, races, and more. Know the CP podcast and Finn got 300, but he mentioned upwards of 40 ish miles of road and dreadmill.

I have about 30 miles on my 005s and absolutely love them. I was previously in the Hoka Mafate speed 4. While these are lower stack and less cushion, there is no sacrifice in comfort. Love the soft underfoot feel and responsive ride, love how nimble and lightweight they are which gives me a lot of confidence on the trails. Additionally , no heel slippage for me, maybe the best lockdown on any shoe I've ever had.

I just got the 005s and I LOVE them. This is my first pair of Nordas, but are supposedly more breathable than the 001 and 002, and felt like a combo of the two. Lightweight, comfortable, great fit overall and crush it on the trail. Highly recommend the 005s!

For me it’s perfect, walks the line perfectly between soft but still responsive. I’m 72 kg. I had been in Hokas before and was looking for one will a little more feel for the trail and a thinner stack without getting me hurt, and I think Norda hit it just right. They’re expensive, but I’ve found them to be worth it so far.

I love my 005 but do have one major issue that I haven’t seen others report… from my first run I’m bottoming out the cushioning. It’s really soft and I’m 80kg, I literally hit the ground through the forefoot. This doesn’t impact performance on runs up to 2 hours but is an issue for longer than that, as my feet get smacked with rough terrain.

I was at the Renegade x Norda 005 release party last night in LA and I’m going for the demo run tomorrow. Tried them on in the store while talking with one of their team members from Montreal…they’re gorgeous in person and many (including the owner of Renegade) were talking about having them as daily wear. They’re raffling off the Norda bag for anyone who buys the shoes in the shop this weekend. Will be interesting to see how they feel on the Griffith Park 8 mile trail loop tomorrow…I’ll report back! Disclaimer: I’ve been wearing the 001s in white as my daily for 2 years and absolutely love them. I also have the 001s in gravel and don’t prefer them in technical terrain as the heel cup rides higher than most other shoes and I was getting contact against my ankle bone on steep descents…even with a heel lock lacing) I absolutely have gotten my moneys worth out of the 001s as my daily’s for two years…I wear them in the office, around town, and are my road shoes when I travel light and want to run while traveling. I’ve got a 100m and two 100ks left this year and currently am in Speedland’s for my big efforts in the mountains…would take a lot to pull me away from them as I’m a big fan of the BOA system coming over from the Altra Mont Blanc BOA a couple years ago. But to answer your question, it’s more than just the brand…though no carbon plate, they use the highest quality foam for 100% of the shoes where other brands have a mix of different types of foam (if I understand my research correctly)

I just retuned the 005s as I couldn’t quite get the fit right (they’re great on flat road but couldn’t get it dialed for the steeper ascents and descents I do). I’m going back to the Speedland GS:CCD (I have the GS:PDX and they are my favorite trail shoes ever). For background: I have had two pairs of 001s for 2 years (white gum are my daily and travel shoes) and the ciele x Norda in gravel have been my trail shoes in rotation….but I keep going back to the Speedland’s when I want a superb fit (BOA is next level) and solid comfort on the longer efforts.

Lace the laces all the way to the top. Make sure there is no slack without being tight. Wear a medium-thickness sock like a Feetures Elite. They are phenomenal when worn this way. I can shred all kinds of crazy downhills and technical disaster zones in them. Notably Norda's own socks are not ideal with the shoes, but the Feetures were perfect.

Yeah the full lace made a big difference alongside the socks. While they aren't laced that way from the factory, it really feels like the shoe is designed to be laced fully. The heel is a B width, the forefoot E, and locking down the ankle area makes the shoe feel like an extension of your foot.

The 005 is getting across the board great reviews. I just picked up a pair of 001’s used and it’s crazy how much better they feel in terms of build and quality. Other brands have premium trail runners. Salomon has S-lab, Nnormal. Considering I was burning through Clifton’s and Speedgoats Im really much more interested in durability and a consistent ride underfoot. I’m leaning towards Nordas for a trail super shoe but feel you… $325 is high. I’d never buy the gear, there’s so many great brands out there that have performance clothes.

I made a post about the 005 on r/runningshoegeeks. Not sure about your foot shape but I found the 005’s to fit slightly looser than the 001’s I’ve taken them out for a few more runs and have warmed up to em. I think they’ll be a good desert 100 shoe as they’re super light and have a tight mesh upper. Just tried out a pair of the Prodigio Pros on technical mountain trails and really enjoyed em. Much more of a race fit shoe - like a Salomon Genesis fit with a roomier toe box. Less platform under foot but more secure. The Prodigio Pros felt like they’d run warmer in the summer so if you’re a heavy sweater or the races are gonna be sloppy that could be a consideration. Both shoes are actually really advanced in terms of weight and midsole responsiveness so it probably comes down to what type of fit you prefer for a long race.

**Shoe model and size: Norda 005 - size 12.5** \- 1/2 size up from my normal TTS and the same as my Norda 001 (as recommended) Did my first 10 mile run with the Norda 005's this morning and was not very impressed. I was fatigued from a faster road long run yesterday, but honestly, I thought that this would be perfect for a shoe that was designed to go long. **Distance ran: 10 miles** **Initial impression** is exactly opposite all the entirely positive reviews that I've read. **Fit:** Upper is baggy - way bigger and volumous than the 001's (which I'm a fan of) I had to crank the laces down on my smaller foot until the sides were almost touching. Lots of movement and overall sloppyness in the shoe - It felt a lot like the Craft CTM ultra which got across the board critisim due to a big upper. **Use case:** Gravel and mildly technical MTB / single track - **Reason for buying:** Potential shoe for my first 100 mile race (Jevelina 100) **Personal observations:** The midsole was meh I was surprised about this - Maybe my legs are so shot from a 16 mile day yesterday but I don't think thats it - Every single review that ive read/ watched people are literally ranting about TPEE. Felt really soft, like a Clifton with 200 miles on it. I truly think this is the reason why companies opt plates in shoes (even trail shoes) - to stabilize an otherwise very mushy foam. I have a discounted pair of Nike Ultraflys that feel like a dream on this same 10 mile loop - Again a shoe that was across the board slammed for heel slip issues. About the heel slip, its worse for me than the 001's The new dyneema seems to give more than what was used on the 001's I adjusted fit 3 times during this run, which is a major red flag for a distance shoe. Again, every reviewer mentions slip in the 001 and then assures that the 005 is different - It's built on the same last and has no collar around the Achilles so... yeah. I really wish that reviewers would say right off the bat if the shoe is wide. Like Altra wide. Anyone with a lower volume foot would swim in this shoe - Length was fine. Breathability was good - I had doubts here as the weave is very dense - It was 80 by the end of the run and the shoes were still dry while I was soaked in sweat Durability seems good - maybe better than reviews have stated. There's a lot of rough gravel on this loop and I've had shoes show visible tread wear with just 8-10 miles - Lugs look good. I completly ate it, catching a rock underfoot and there's no scratching or abrasion anywhere. **Comparisons:** **Norda 001** \- Morę secure fit, more stable, responsive ride. Way less movement underfoot. Less breathable. Maybe less lively than the 005 - I never really opened up with the 005 due to fit - with the 001 I bomb downhills without really paying attention to my feet. **Craft Pure Trail** \- Really similar upper fit feel - lots of movement in both shoes. Craft has a more responsive, stable midsole. Terrible ousole on the Craft. Something about how hard I had to lockdown this shoe always caused some sort of issue on longer efforts. While the 005 fit is sloppy it isnt uncomfortable even with everything cranked down to the max. **Normal Tomir 2.0** \- More secure upper after break in of about 150 miles. Midsole was very firm in comparison but seems to be more forgiving as I keep running in them (have 250 miles on this pair now). Midsole is sorta brickish on the Tomir - 005 feels more nimble and less tank-like **Nike Ultrafly** \- Honeslty I got sucked into bad hype on this shoe. I truly enjoy running this shoe and experience some heel slippage on uphills due to the stiff plate. Very balanced midsole with the plate and zoomx foam. Great lace lockdown for downhilling. The 005 feels more attached to the foot without a place, but much softer. Does anyone else have any experience? I'm gonna take em out for one more run later this week and then most likely sell them. I thought for sure this would be my 100-mile shoe due to experience with the 001 but I barely made it through 10 miles this morning.

I appreciate the writeup! Actually this is exactly the type of information that I'm looking for - Again the issue with reviews is that a lot of folks will take shoes out on an 8-10 mile run in great conditions and extoll the virtues of everything. I have a feeling that we're similar in the way that shoes often take a few runs for me to reallly get an idea if they're working or not. I bought the 005's on discount only after buying a used pair of 001's to get an idea of the Norda feel and sizing - Also I was asking myself during the run if sizing down would have been a good idea - but honestly for a shoe that's supposed to last for a 50-100 mile race I'd be really concerned about any less legnth. I'm gonna rotate some of my more comfortable shoes in to the same loop this week to feel out some differences. If they're still giving me issues after 30 miles ill sell em. Again thanks for the detailed writeup - Seems like you've got the trifecta of showstoppers this year in your rotation with the VJ, La Sportiva, and Norda. You should def do a 100 mile compairison on the three and post it here.

Yeah, they claim 7.5oz/214g for a US M8.5 which is very good but not as impressive when you get to "real world" sizes. And then there's the outsole-sponsored athletes and professional reviewers claim the lug pattern and compound are great for dry stuff but not intended for wet or sloppy conditions. So this begs the question-why use a more expensive compound with LESS durability if there is no meaningful gain in traction/grip on all conditions? They could just use standard Megagrip Litebase with a better outsole design and cover more bases while potentially making the shoe more affordable. I use my 001RZs regularly and I think it's one of the best and most durable trainers on the market. But this 005 is already struggling to show any meaningful advantages compared to the latest crop of performance trail shoes (Prodigio Pro and Deviate Nitro Elite Trail). And things are going to get a lot more crowded in this sector when the Kjerag 2 comes along (which is even lighter and now equipped with a higher stack supercritical TPU midsole and should be at least as durable with a proven outsole). Not to mention all these shoes are 70-120$ cheaper than the 005.

I was also underwhelmed during and after the first run of 13 miles in the 005, especially considering all the hype that had been building up since last year before the recent launch. I liked the lightness but the fit of the upper was a bit baggy going half-size up as Norda recommends, the midsole didn't feel as amazing as advertised, and the outsole's grip wasn't as confidence-inspiring as, say, on the 001, VJ Ultra 3, Prodigio Pro, or the Nnormal Kjerag or Tomir 2.0. Well, I've now logged around 50 miles in the 005 and I absolutely love it. This "super" midsole has come alive and the outsole can handle whatever I throw at it. I need to wear thicker socks and cinch down quite a bit to get a secure lockdown, but I don't get lace bite and it feels quite comfortable now. I'm interested in trying it in my normal TTS size because I still have plenty of room in front of the toes. I'm not saying that you should give the 005 50 miles to see if it will work out for you. If you don't feel it and don't think it's going to get better, you may as well move on. At first, the 005 felt like a lightweight road trainer in the vein of Rebel v4 or the Evo SL that had been adapted to trails, but those shoes are less than half the price of the 005. It felt good to run in something so light on the trails, but everything else felt kind of meh and I couldn't understand what the hype and the rave reviews were about. I took the 005 on a second run of around 15 miles with about 3,000ft of elevation again through all types of terrains and I started feeling the midsole getting more propulsive and responsive. I checked my watch and I was moving noticeably faster than the perceived effort, which is a hallmark of supershoes. I bombed the downhills which I wasn't so confident about doing on my first run like I would with the VJ Ultra 3 and the Prodigio Pro. The 005 was just as protective and stable while being more agile and nimble. The outsole grip which I wasn't so sure about felt a lot more secure. I was like, "Hmmm... I guess it's coming alive now for me to get what the hype is all about." After the third run of another 15 miles a few days ago, I was sold and grinning from ear-to-ear afterwards. It's light, fast and propulsive, responsive, stable, nimble, grippy, comfortable, and protective. It pretty much does it all in a very lightweight package. I haven't gone on a run over 15 miles, so I can't say how it will hold up over ultra distances, but I do plan a 50km run soon and a 90km race in the summer. My inclination is to stick with the Tecton X 3 for such distances, but I'm rotating the 005, VJ Ultra 3, and Prodigio Pro right now to see if one will come out on top. They are all great shoes, but the 005 being almost 1.5oz lighter than the TX3, U3, and Prodigio Pro does give it an advantage. I'd like to get to at least 100 miles and a 50k run in each before coming to a conclusion.

The Prodigio Pro is a great shoe. You may also want to consider the VJ Ultra 3. The PP does have a narrower fit. I went from my usual US men's 8 to 8.5+ (EU 41.5) and it's snug and very secure around the mid-foot. It's a more "classic" type of trail shoe than the 005, as is the Ultra 3. To me, the PP sits somewhere in between the two. I love all three, but the Prodigio Pro is probably the most versatile and best suited for 50\~100 mile distances.

There's definitely a hefty premium for the 005, which would only pay off if one can get around 650 *good* miles or close to 1,000km. I'd say getting $0.50 per mile a good value. I guess I'll see if the 005 can do that like the 001. In comparison, the Prodigio Pro (and probably the VJ Ultra 3 as well) is a bargain for all that it offers. It kind of reminds me of the Xodus Ultra 1 and 2 that I used to run in some years ago but *everything* on the PP is better: the upper, the midsole, the outsole, the responsiveness, the ride, agility, bounce, propulsion, stability, etc. Put that all together and PP's value quotient is off the charts.

I did have some Achilles rubbing in one of my 005s , but I rolled the heel cup backwards about and inch and massaged it back and forth for about 5 minutes After that I’ve had zero issues

This seems to be a case of someone buying the shoe online based solely on reviews and not being happy with the fit. I understand this shoes aren’t widely available in running shops and trying them on prior to purchasing them may difficult for a lot of people, but if you have the ability to do so I highly recommend taking advantage of that ability. Each model fits slightly differently. I will say that the 005 definitely has a wider forefoot than other trail shoes and slightly wider than the 001s and wouldn’t be great for people with narrower feet. Other than that most of the reviews I’ve read have been spot on. I love these shoes. I have about 60 miles in them and can’t say enough about them. I think the midsole is awesome, love the fit and the lock down throughout the shoe including the heel. The heel lock down ( for me) may be the best I’ve had in a trail shoe.

I saw those reviews as well and I was definitely surprised when I tried them on. I expected them to be a little more snug in the forefoot based on the reviews, but for me the forefoot width works and they’ve broken in nicely

have the T1 and the Prodigio pro. overall the prodigio is the better shoe (for me), i would not wear the t1 for more than 30-50 miles unless its basically buffed single track, but on buffed single track the prodigio has more flow (for me) than the t1. the t1 is an amazing first debut for MTC. the tuned fit lacing is a gimmick which is why they also put in the box normal laces and when you swap them out the lockdown is decent. i enjoy running in both but the prodigio is much more versatile and appropriate for a hundred miler (if that’s your thing). more protection, better wet traction, slightly more energy return but more aggressive rocker. durability wise they feel similar to me, the upper has more high tech materials in the t1 but i have similar mileage on both and they are both wearing similarly. edit also i bought and returned the norda 5. absolutely no stability for highly technical terrain. the upper is like a really bad version of the kjerag. the kjerag is decent on technical terrain but its grip is not aggressive (haven’t tried the brut version). the norda is one shoe i really could just not descent steep technical terrain at all.

Slab is way too narrow both are old. makes no sense to buy now. norda 005 is currently the best trail running shoe on the market, Hoka tecton x3 as a second.

Norda 005 and Nnormal Tomir2.0. The former is lighter and bouncier, the latter a little more stable. Love both.

I love them. Felt great out the box (size 0.5 up) and you can get a really snug fit with no need to heel lock. My first pair has a little 1,000 km on them. Treat is pretty worn as most of the trails I run are fairly rough. Upper is in ridiculously good shape - definitely couldn't say that about many shoes after 1,000 km. I use them for carpeted trails now as I bought a second pair when I found them cheap somewhere. Only downsides are that if they get wet, they take a good while to dry. But on the flip side, they keep water out for a long time.

Does anyone else find them hot? I wore a friends pair for an 11km race and I found my feet really hot in them. In my mind that makes sense because of the tight dyneema weave but wanted to hear other people’s opinions. Probably was 22 c by the coast and sun so was quite hot at times

Btw don't order Norda blindly - the sizing is way off, and they are pretty wide. Kind of marmite shoes like Altra or Topo in that you really have to try them on 1st.
